An Air Force captain completed a successful mission in front of thousands of cheering NFL fans on Sunday when he got down on one knee during a break in the game and proposed to his girlfriend, a cheerleader for the Arizona Cardinals.聽
Air Force captain Eric Straub, 26, dressed in his flight suit, received a resounding "Yes!'' from cheerleader Claire Thornton, 24, as the crowd roared its approval during the break between the first and second quarter of the Cardinals' game against the Washington Redskins. The proposal was shown on the giant video screen in the stadium.聽

Straub, an F-15 pilot in the Air Force, had just returned from a deployment in the Middle East the previous night. Thornton was expecting him to propose at some point during his time at home, but had no idea he was going to do it at the game. She knew the Cardinals were giving Straub a special welcome home during the game because during cheerleading practice they had gone over what would be on the Jumbotron and there was a message for Straub.聽

Meanwhile, Straub had already worked it out with Cardinals officials that he would propose when he came out on the field. Thornton was scanning the stands for him after the first quarter before she realized he was on the field with her.聽 
"Claire had no idea what was going on,'' Straub told TODAY.com. "I just wanted it to be special for her, and I wanted her to be surprised. I saw they had 'Claire, will you marry me up on the screen?' and I had missed my cue, so I got over there quickly.聽 
"It was so loud you couldn't hear anything. I had all these things I wanted to say, but once I got down on my knee, I had no idea what to say. I think all I said was, 'I love you marry me!' It was funny.''聽
Thornton's cheerleading teammates then celebrated with her after the game.聽
The couple, who went to high school together in Arizona, have been together for about a year. Thornton is a first-grade teacher from Scottsdale, Arizona.聽 
"I thought they were just surprising Eric with the welcome home message,'' Thornton said. "I had no idea what they were going to do at all. It was just an amazing day."聽

The campaign, which began in June, has raised almost $60,000 so far, according to Lou Carrier, who, along with Liz King, heads a 16-person committee working on the project. Corriveau graduated from Winthrop High School in 1951 and Carrier and King in 1952.

We ve always helped (Corriveau) out if there is any way we could help him, King said. And when Corriveau makes his annual pilgrimage to Winthrop, Maine, she said, I m always fixing a pot roast for him. He s nuts over my pot roast.

The committee has started phone and mail efforts, put up posters and donor envelopes at the entrances to the six churches in St. Michael Parish and is planning an essay contest on the Web.

We re going to ask for $20 contributions for someone to write an essay (about) why they would like to have two gravesites at Glenside Cemetery in Winthrop perfect for a husband and wife. We re calling it the RIP program, Carrier said last week. If they don t want the two gravesites, there s a shore lot on Annabessacook Lake they can choose.

While the fundraising is taking place in the United States, Corriveau said, the people from the mountainous Fond Oies parish have attended services in a makeshift chapel.

It was a canvas chapel, but we used tin roofing on the top and sides to close it up because the canvas didn t last too long, said Corriveau, who is staying briefly at the Oblate Missions House in Lowell, Mass., while receiving medical treatment for back problems stemming from years of riding horses, mules and motorcycles to get to his parish 鈥?and possibly, he speculates, from the year he played football for the University of Maine.

Corriveau has made several recent trips to the Winthrop area, once to attend a fundraising supper.

He is a priest with the Missionary Oblates of Immaculate Mary and was first assigned to Haiti on the Caribbean island of Hispaniola 50 years ago.

Corriveau, who will be 82 in two weeks, is anxious to get back to Haiti, where he has been assigned the job of raising funds to rebuild the church. Currently he is based in Port-au-Prince and serves as chaplain to the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi.

Since I had my hip operation five years ago, I went back and was able to build a small rectory, Corriveau said. I m getting up there in age, and my hip doesn t permit me to climb mountains any more. They put a younger priest there in my place and also put a seminarian there to get used to missionary work. I m still attached to the parish because the young priest doesn t have all the help that he needs.

The others also lack a base of support like he has in Winthrop.

The parish has been very generous and the men s club very generous, and that s how we ve been keeping the (Haitian) parish open, Corriveau said. Even right now it s very hard for a priest to live there unless he has help.

He said the parishioners there are farmers and engaged in commerce, selling things along the side of the road. They don t have much money to share, he said.

The earthquake killed 222,570 people, injured 300,572, and displaced 2.3 million people, according to a January 2014 Haiti earthquake: Four-year progress report by the Red Cross Red Crescent. The number of people who died in the quake has been the topic of some dispute over the years.

The church is right on the earthquake fault, so there were quite a few houses broken down, Corriveau said. The church crumbled.

Since 2010, he said various organizations, including the Swiss Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity led by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, and the local Little Brothers of St. Therese Lisieux, the Little Flower, have rebuilt houses in the area.

Figures provided by the United Nations and cited in the Red Cross Red Crescent report say, (A)n estimated 89 percent of the 1.5 million people originally displaced by the earthquake have now left the camps and over 40,000 of these families were supported by the Red Cross Red Crescent.

St. Anthony of Padua Church did not receive any relief funds to rebuild.

The church has been there now since 1912, but it s been wrecked seven or eight times by a hurricane, and the last time it was the earthquake that took it down, Corriveau said.

He said that some 7,000 to 8,000 people are in the area of the parish, but only about 2,000 to 3,000 are Catholics.

Carrier said a new church will be costly because building regulations in Haiti are such that whatever you put up now has to withstand an earthquake.

Carrier said contributions can be made by check to Father Joe at St. Michael and mailed to Father Joe at St. Michael, P.O. Box 333, Winthrop ME 04364 or dropped in collection baskets at any of the St. Michael Parish churches: St. Augustine and St. Mary, Augusta; St. Denis, Whitefield; St. Francis Xavier, Winthrop; St. Joseph, Gardiner, and Sacred Heart, Hallowell.

The Rev. Frank Morin, the St. Michael Parish administrator, issues thank you letters and receipts if contributions are $250 or more, Carrier said.

As for Corriveau s nickname, Carrier said, His father was named Joseph. I imagine they called him Little Joe when he was a kid.

The Kansas City Chiefs sacking of the New England Patriots on Monday night football last week came up trumps for ESPN on the Nielsen Twitter ratings. The Chiefs dominated the Patriots on both sides of the ball and racked up 779,000 tweets, reaching 6.88 million twitter accounts on the way to a 41-14 win.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady had a mediocre night, completing 14 of 23 passes for 159 yards. At 37 years old, Brady s poor performance led to speculation that his best days are behind him and his weak offensive line had its share of armchair critics. Chiefs fans, however, were more interested in commenting on Twitter about the noise level at Arrowhead Stadium, which won back its title as the country s loudest outdoor venue when the noise reached 142.2 decibels during the game.

Great job for once again making Arrowhead the loudest stadium in the world! Awesome to be a part of that and getting the win!

The Patriots claimed the No. 2 spot on the Nielsen Twitter ratings when the team reversed its Kansas City misfortunes and thrashed the Cincinnati Bengals 43-17 on NBC. The Pats were happy to be home, their defense shined and Brady surpassed 50,000 yards in career passing to earn the game ball and praise on Twitter.

No doubt, Mendes also believes the talk of McGregor fighting Aldo is a bit hasty, as he plans to dethrone the champ Oct. 25 in Brazil. In fact, Mendes has suggested that the UFC may not make McGregor the number one contender, should he beat Aldo and become the new champion, because his wrestling-based style would be a bad match up for the Irishman.

The 20th edition of the MTN World Golfers Championship which tees off later this month in Durban, South Africa will attract the participation of Nigerian couples in the World Invitational Golf (WGI) version of the event, THISDAY has learnt. 
The WGC will strive to reinforce its reputation as the marquee tournament for amateur golfers in the world, creating the platform for business interaction for over 400 players in Durban from October 28-November 8, 2014.

 
We reliably gathered from the organisers that ahead of the departure of the Nigerian delegation to South Africa on October 28, two Nigerian prominent golf playing couples are among those that are set to appear at the event. 
The couples who will contend in the WGI, according to the Marketing Director of Global Golf, the technical partners of the MTN WGC in Nigeria, Obinna Duru, include Mr and Mrs Matthew Okonkwo and Mr and Mrs Debo Olateju.

 
Matthew Okonkwo was the former Captain of Air Assault Golf Club, Port Harcourt while Debo Olateju was the immediate past Captain of IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja. 
The Olatejus are no strangers to the WGI stableford contest, having figured at the 18th edition of the annual event in Durban in 2012. 
Aside the couple, we also scooped that the invitational schedule will feature the likes of Paul Abiyou, Sani Anka, Bello Gwandu, Dr Akpofure and Peter Eben- Spiff. 
The expanded MTN WGC will spread over 10 days of engaging golf on four championship golf courses in the Kwa-Zulu Natal Province.

WASHINGTON
Start 'em: Monday's game made Alfred Morris look bad, but he'd averaged 12.5 fantasy points a game before that. He's a must-start.

Start 'em?: Against a good Arizona defense, even with it missing some pieces, Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson are tough to count on, given their inconsistency this year. They're both low-end flex plays. ... The Washington tight end situation is a crapshoot. Both Jordan Reed and Niles Paul could be good fantasy plays on their own, but with them both likely to play Sunday, who can say if either one will get enough attention to trust?

Sit 'em: A three-game fantasy line of 27-5-19 makes it tough to predict what Kirk Cousins will do in any given game, but the main takeaway is that his downside really outweighs his upside. ... Kai Forbath has five or fewer fantasy points in three of five games this season. ... The Washington defense has negative-5 combined points the last three weeks.

The Cardinals' defense is losing players to injury right and left; if the super-bad version of Cousins shows up, the unit could still do well, but it's far from a guarantee.

Sit 'em: We don't really know who is going to start at quarterback for Arizona Sunday -- heck, Bruce Arians might not know. But whether it's Carson Palmer, Drew Stanton or even Logan Thomas, even in a good matchup, you can't possibly trust any of them. ... John Carlson has 10 total fantasy points this season. Stay away.

Both fighters were equally disappointed with the decision, but also blamed themselves for not taking full advantage of their opportunities.

I thought it was very close. It could have gone either way, said Bishop, the Bingham native who was making his pro debut after posting a 10-4 record as an amateur. I wasn t very happy with my performance. I wish I did a little more. But he was tough.

I knew I was coming in against a really, really experienced guy and it was going to be a tough fight, Lawton said. I feel like I did enough to win the fight, but that s up to the judges, and I don t like to leave it in the judges hands.

Lawton used his reach advantage and a quick jab to gain the upper hand in the first round.

Every time I tried to come inside of him, he d touch me every single time. It was very hard to get in there, Bishop said. Every once in a while, I could get in there and throw a jab but it was just a matter of getting in there.

Bishop started to find openings inside in the second round and stunned Lawton with a left hook to control the balance of the round.

Lawton danced out of further trouble early in the third, nearly losing his footing at one point before taking a couple of strong combinations from Bishop. Lawton started to close up again and keep Bishop at bay by returning to his jab.

Bishop appeared to tire in the fourth and left some openings for Lawton to land some combinations of his own.

I ve been working with my coach, Jason Bell, and for this fight I was working with Glenn Cugno and the Gamache family, and as far as I m concerned there s no better boxers in the greater New England area, Lawton said. I ve been working really diligently with them on all of the basic stuff and it really paid off. They fixed a lot of holes in my game and put a good strategy in place for me to implement.

Lawton said more boxing may be in his future.

MMA s my main thing, but I ve really come to enjoy the challenge of boxing, so who knows? Maybe I ll be out there for the next show, too, Lawton said.

Waterville won the regular season game, 25-21, on a last minute touchdown. Winslow won the rematch in the conference championship game, 49-18.

Throughout this season, Waterville and Winslow have both dominated most opponents. In their 12 games combined, only one was decided by less than 22 points, Winslow s 26-25 win at Foxcroft Academy on Friday.

Win or lose at Brunswick on Friday, Lawrence (5-1) knows it s going to the Pine Tree Conference Class B playoffs after missing the postseason for the first time since 2004 last season. Wins at Brunswick and at home against Messalonskee in the regular season finale would clinch a bye to the regional semifinals for the Bulldogs.

Coach John Hersom said he and his staff haven t mentioned the playoffs to their team.

We re not even thinking playoffs. Like in past years, we ve never really spoken about them, Hersom said. We just want to continue to play good football at this time of the year.

Brunswick (5-1) is coming off its first loss of the season, a 20-7 defeat at Messalonskee. While the winner of Friday s game in Brunswick can almost ensure a bye out of the first round of the playoffs, the loser may have to win its regular season finale next week to even guarantee a home game in the first round. That s how tight the PTC B standings are.

They re really physical. They definitely have their systems in place, Hersom said of Brunswick. It s going to be a huge challenge for us.

Friday s win over Brunswick was Messalonskee s second upset of the undefeated Dragons in as many seasons. Last season, the Eagles went to Brunswick and took a 21-14 win. That game started a four-game win streak for the 2013 Eagles, who reached the PTC B semifinals.

Messalonskee hosts Hampden (1-5) on Friday. Other games with PTC B playoff implications this week include Brewer (3-3) at Mt. Blue (3-3) and Gardiner (2-4) at Skowhegan (2-4).

The loser of the Gardiner-Skowhegan game is all but eliminated from playoff contention. Mt. Blue got back on track with a win at Gardiner last week. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Cougars.

For more than 60 years, the Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl has pitted the top high school football players from New Hampshire and Vermont against each other as a fundraiser for Shriner s hospitals. Now, the game that was one of the inspirations for Maine s Shrine Lobster Bowl may be in jeopardy.

The Bektash Shriners of Concord, N.H., recently voted to end its sponsorship of the game, citing higher costs of the game and fewer funds raised, as well as the game s lack of competitive balance. New Hampshire leads the 61-year series, 46-13-2, and has won 14 consecutive games.

If the Maple Sugar Bowl is discontinued, don t expect it to be replaced by a game featuring Maine players taking on New Hampshire. Jason Fuller, the longtime Maine Shrine Lobster Bowl athletic director, said a game against New Hampshire is nothing the Lobster Bowl directors have discussed.

Yesterday, the Blackhawks made a huge statement to their opponents by signing captain, Jonathan Towes and Patrick Kane to eight-year contract extensions.  Terms of the contract were not disclosed. 
Although both players were not in the top five in the league in goals, assists, points, Towes and Kane did put up good numbers this past season. 
Towes scored 28 goals, had 40 for a total of 68 points in 76 regular season games.  Towes scored nine goals, had eight assists for a total of 17 points during the playoffs. 
As for Kane, he scored 29 goals had 40 assists for a total of 69 points in 69 regular season games,  Kane also scored eight goals, and had 20 assists during the playoffs.

"If UKIP are to turn votes into Commons seats in Britain's first-past-the-post system, they need to build up bastions of local strength. Today's poll suggests they may have begun to do that," Professor John Curtice from Strathclyde University,  the Mail on Sunday. 

"The 25 percent level represents a 22-point increase on the 3 percent the party won in 2010. If that increase were to occur evenly in every constituency, they could still fail to pick up a single seat."

If that level was recorded throughout the South, UKIP could win as many as 128 seats, with no less than 102 of them coming from the Conservatives, whose vote in the region is down 14 points," he continued. 

"In that event, Cameron would be left with just 187 seats, almost as weak a position as the Conservatives were in after their calamitous defeat in 1997. Mr. Farage would achieve his ambition of holding the balance of power at Westminster. Any poll estimate of what is going on in an individual region is inevitably not as robust as that for the country as a whole." 

"However, if UKIP are advancing more strongly in some parts of the South, its chances of establishing itself as a significant force at Westminster may well be higher than has so far been appreciated," he said. 

In order to form a majority government, 326 MPs are required. Since joining forces between Conservatives and UKIP would bring them to a total of 315 MPs, they will most probably "rely on the Democratic Unionist Party to do a deal with them over their eight MPs, bringing them tantalizingly close to being able to form an anti-European government," according to Breitbart.

According to head coach Bruce Arians, "we haven't run the ball enough to get the other guys more carries."

He said the "games have dictated what we've been doing."

But it didn't sound like he planned on giving many carries to anyone else. "We'll just see how it goes and how Andre's feeling," he said. That, combined with the comment Arians made on Wednesday, saying "if (Andre's) fresh, he's staying in," indicates he doesn't really have plans of using right now.

What about rookie ?

He still "has no role" in the game plan. Grice said he is still "progressing" with the offense. He said he still isn't there yet and he still "(gets) confused at times" because he will think he's got it, but he coaches will burst his bubble.

He knows he doesn't have a role yet, but is "just trying to contribute on special teams right now."

Whether he is active on Sunday will be a numbers game, according to Arians. "It will depend on other injuries," he said, although he admitted that "we're rolling the dice a little bit" if they only go with three backs as they did last week.

Taylor has gotten only three carries all year so far. I talked to him 聽on Friday and his body language tells me he is a little frustrated, but he said the right things.

He "(tries) not to focus" on how his number hasn't been called much and he indicated he knows the coaching staff has confidence in him, even if it would appear the coaches don't have much trust in him in the running game.

He spoke of being patient.

"I can't let things I can't control bother me," he said. "That's when things get in your head and you starting moping around in the locker room and you start to mess up."

Taylor is competitive and is used to being a volume carrier, as he was a workhorse in high school and at Stanford.

But Arians is right -- they aren't running the ball enough to spread the carries out. The running back carries thus far have been 21, 25, 20 and 18. Jonathan Dwyer got 16 of those carries the first two weeks of the season.

Running the ball that little over the past two weeks, it makes sense to give the ball to Ellington. The team sees him as a big play threat and a dynamic runner and receiver.

It is, though, interesting, as Ellington has been bothered by a foot injury all season. He does not practice fully during the week.

Will things change against Washington? It didn't sound like it.

So if you want to see more carries from Stepfan Taylor or the integration of Marion Grice, don't expect much if Ellington is feeling good. ABOARD A US MILITARY AIRCRAFT (AP) 鈥?Turkey will let U.S. and coalition forces use its bases, including a key installation within 100 miles of the Syrian border for operations against Islamic State militants in Syria and Iraq, American defense officials said Sunday.

The Obama administration had pressed Turkey for a larger role against the extremists, and a senior U.S. official confirmed Saturday that Ankara had agreed to train and moderate Syrian rebels on Turkish soil. A Turkish government official said Sunday that Turkey put the number at 4,000 opposition fighters and said they would be screened by Turkish intelligence.

U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, who has been traveling in South America, has said the U.S. wanted access to the Turkish air bases, including one at Incirlik in southern Turkey, from which to launch strikes against the Islamic militants.

That base is part of the agreement, according to U.S. defense officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss private talks between the Americans and Turks.

Beyond the training and bases, there are other issues the U.S. hopes Turkey will agree to. U.S. officials have not said what all of those would be because discussions are continuing. The militants have taken over large swaths of Iraq and Syria and driven refugees into Turkey.

Hagel spoke by telephone Sunday with Turkey s defense minister, Ismet Yilmaz, and thanked him for his country s willingness to assist in the fight against Islamic State militants.

Rear Adm. John Kirby, the Pentagon press secretary, said Hagel noted Turkey s expertise in this area and the responsible manner in which Turkey is handling the other challenges this struggle has placed upon the country, in terms of refugees and border security.

Earlier, President Barack Obama s national security adviser, Susan Rice, made clear that the U.S. has not asked the Turks to send ground forces of their own into Syria.

American officials are continuing to talk to the Turks about other ways that they can play an important role. They are already essential to trying to prevent the flow of foreign fighters and extremists from exporting oil through Turkey. So Turkey has many ways it can contribute, Rice told NBC s Meet the Press.

Turkey and other American allies are pressing the U.S. to create a no-fly zone inside Syrian territory, and seeking creation of a secure buffer on the Syrian side of the border with Turkey. A safe zone would require Americans and their partners to protect ground territory and patrol the sky, meaning enforcement of a no-fly area.

Hagel has said American leaders are open to discussing a safe zone, but creating one isn t actively being considered.

Gen. Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has estimated it would require hundreds of U.S. aircraft and cost as much as $1 billion a month to maintain an area in Syria safe from attacks by the Islamic State group and Syria s air force, with no assurance of a change in battlefield momentum toward ending the Syrian civil war.

Here are 10 movies and TV shows that could soon make a comeback on the small screen: 

Rush Hour 

 

"Rush Hour" had surprising success on the big screen when it premiered in 1998. The first movie grossed more than $244 million worldwide and spawned two sequels. 

CBS gave a  to Warner Bros. TV for "Cougar Town" creator Bill Lawrence to  into an hour-long action comedy series. Lawrence plans to stick with the original "Rush Hour" premise, which brought a straight-laced Hong Kong detective (played by Jackie Chan) to Los Angeles to work a joint case with a cocky LAPD detective (played by Chris Tucker). 

School of Rock 

 

Actor-comedian Tony Cavalero  Dewey Finn, the role originated by Jack Black, in Nickelodeon's "School of Rock" TV series. Cavalero will teach a new group of prep school students how to rock 'n' roll as he tries to live out his own rock star dreams. 

"I am honored to be part of the rad legacy that is 'School of Rock,'" Cavalero said. "Jack Black is one of my biggest comedy influences and I am ready to shred." 

Nickelodeon ordered 13 episodes for the first season that will premiere early next year. The 2004 film's director Richard Linklater and producer Scott Rudin will serve as executive producers on the TV show. 

Lost In Space 

 

CBS's "Lost in Space" and NBC's "Star Trek" had nearly identical track records for their original series. Both took advantage of the space race excitement during the 1960s and both had their shows pulled after three seasons due to poor ratings and ballooning budgets. 

The similarities pretty much stop there. 

The "Star Trek" franchise recovered nearly 20 years later and has produced four spin off TV series as well as 12 major motion pictures, with one more in development. 

"Lost in Space" also got its own movie in 1998 but never saw success like the Starfleet crew. The sci-fi series might get a second shot on TV and send the Robinson family back into space. 

Legendary TV has put a "Lost in Space" reboot into development with "Dracula Untold" writers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless signed on to adapt the script, according . 

Uncle Buck 

 

Unlike "Say Anything," the director and star of "Uncle Buck" are no longer living to express their opposition to a television reboot of their 1989 film. The families of director John Hughes and actor John Candy have instead spoken out against ABC and Universal TV's development plans for a series that already had an unsuccessful TV run on CBS in 1990. 

"The families feel a strong attachment to the original film which symbolized the great and unique collaboration between Hughes and Candy. Recalling that the director was displeased with the first Uncle Buck TV show effort which failed on CBS in 1990, it is well expected that he would not be supportive of this current attempt," the Hughes and Candy families . 

If the show goes forward, the new series would follow the movie plot line, which centers on a man-child (originally played by Candy) who learns to become an adult by taking care of his brother's children in an unconventional way. 

Big 

 

Tom Hanks received a 1989 Oscar nomination for his role in "Big." His character Josh, a 12-year-old boy from New Jersey, wishes to become "big" at a carnival machine and overnight becomes a full-grown man. 

"Enlisted" executive producers Kevin Biegel and Mike Royce have sold Fox a half-hour comedy based loosely on the 1988 film. Royce and Biegel will use the message of the film to show "what it means to be an adult and what it means to be a kid, and how in today's world those two things are more confused than ever," according . 

Full House 

 

"Full House" remains one of the most popular shows on TV even though it went off the air in 1995. Its primetime repeats on Nickelodeon pull in 1.5 million viewers a night, and Jimmy Fallon has staged several small cast reunions on "The Tonight Show" including a one-night-only performance by "Jesse and The Rippers." 

John Stamos, who played Uncle Jesse, has  and is in the early development stages with the original series creator Jeff Franklin, executive producer Bob Boyett and Warner Bros. TV. Stamos has recruited former cast mates Candace Cameron Bure (D.J.), Jodie Sweetin (Stephanie) and Andrea Barber (Kimmy Gibbler). Dave Coulier (Joey) and Bob Saget (Danny) also will have some involvement on the project. 

Ghost 

 

Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner, the men behind Fox's sci-fi series "Fringe," will  "Ghost" for Paramount TV. The movie starred Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg, who won an Oscar for her role as the psychic Oda Mae Brown. 

"We are thrilled to collaborate with Akiva and Jeff, two deeply creative and accomplished talents, on the television adaptation of this classic supernatural drama," Paramount TV president Amy Powell announced last November. 

The Greatest American Hero 

 

Chris Miller and Phil Lord successfully rebooted the cop drama "21 Jump Street" for the big screen. They will try to do the same with another Stephen J. Cannell series from the '80s, "The Greatest American Hero," but on a smaller scale. 

Fox has  based on the same concept about a teacher who obtains an alien suit that gives him superpowers. Cannell's daughter Tawnia McKiernan will co-produce with Miller and Lord. 

Minority Report 

 

Fox will try to reboot another Tom Cruise thriller after NBC's unsuccessful remake of "The Firm" in 2012. The network has  a remake of the 2002 Steven Spielberg film, which will start 10 years after the movie, which was set in 2054.

The Federal Government has said it would leverage the expansive network of the Nigerian Postal Services (NIPOST) to reduce the unbanked adult population in the country to 10 per cent by 2016.

Minister of Communication Technology, Dr Omobola Johnson, who stated this in a presentation in Lagos, said the move was in line with the government鈥檚 bid to accelerate financial inclusion in Nigeria through creation of agent cash point for mobile money scheme.

Mobile money scheme, introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) with about 18 mobile money operators already issued licences in the last three years, allows individuals to send monetary values through their mobile devices.

According to the minister, though the country currently has 35 million adult Nigerians (about 46 per cent) financially excluded, the network of postal outlets operated by NIPOST constitutes the most widespread retail network in the country to boost financial inclusion.

Johnson stated that the postal financial services to be delivered in partnership with banks, telecoms companies and other Information Technology companies.

She said: 鈥淲e are working to ensure that we leverage NIPOST to drive financial inclusion in the country. Already, the government shall select transaction advisor by the fourth quarter of 2014 and select partners in the scheme by second quarter of 2015.

鈥淭he partnership is anticipated to be available to deliver services by the second quarter of 2016. On the anticipated effect of this scheme, it is envisaged that after being in operation for one year, this service should be able to reduce number of unbanked Nigerians by 10 per cent (3.5 million).鈥?
The minister said that mobile money is currently mostly used to buy airtime, it, however, has the potential to serve as a platform for drawing more people into formal financial services.

According to her, 鈥淢ore people in Nigeria have a mobile phone than have a bank account. Today, 75 per cent of adults living in urban areas and 39 per cent of them living in rural areas have access to a pre-paid mobile phone.

鈥淎lso, 18 mobile money operators have been registered in Nigeria since commencement of operations. There are approximately 1 million subscribers to mobile money services; about 67,000 registered agents while over 11 million transactions of over $600 million have been conducted.鈥?

Guests were treated to an exciting, fast-paced match between legendary Ikoyi Club tennis section team and Pineville Estate. The match which began with high expectations ended 33 -12. 
in favour of Pineville Estate.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the tennis section of Ikoyi Club 1938, Mr Ede Osemwengie, commended UPDC for the sponsorship of the tournament and also for contributions to the development of the game in the country. 
He lauded the participants for their sportsmanship and dedication throughout the competition. 
Osemwengie said the section has had a good relationship with UPDC in the last four years of its sponsorship, just as he said the sponsorship has help build a cordial relationship between members of the club and executives of UPDC.

Massachusetts 2.19 percent donation rate was good enough for 46th among the 51 places surveyed. Hey, that s not in the bottom five!

At the top end of the charitable states, Utah residents took the highest spot on the list with a 6.56 percent donation rate, almost four times the donation rate of New Hampshirirites. Utah s high donation rate is likely due to the high percentage of Mormons living there, as the adherents to give 10 percent of their income to the church.

Among the 50 biggest , New England cities didn t donate much. Boston-Cambridge-Quincy residents donated just 2.3 percent of their income, making it the 47th-most giving city. But take pride Bostonians: at least you re more generous than Hartford, Conn. or the Providence area, otherwise known as the two least-giving metropolitan areas on the list.

Utah again comes on top Salt Lake City residents donate 5.4 percent of their income, followed by a number of Southern cities in Memphis, Birmingham, Ala., and Atlanta.

Giffords gun-control advocacy group, Americans for Responsible Solutions, calls guns and domestic violence a lethal mix, noting that abuse victims are more than five times more likely to be killed if the aggressor has access to a gun.

Among the changes Giffords has sought is to include people with misdemeanor-level stalking crimes among those who are prohibited from buying firearms and to expand background checks to ensure that domestic violence abusers can t buy firearms at gun shows.

After visiting Maine, Giffords will travel to New Hampshire, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Minnesota, Iowa and Oregon. The last stop of the tour will be in Seattle, Washington, on Oct. 22, according to details a Giffords aide provided to The Associated Press.

Parishes in Montgomery County, including in Horsham and Ambler, are among those that may be merged, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia has announced.
The archdiocese announced Sunday that 14 parishes will join the Parish Area Pastoral Planning Initiative, which the church said is aimed to make the parishes vibrant and sustainable.鑱絋he list includes parishes in Montgomery and Delaware Counties as well as Philadelphia.
Determining what happens to the parishes listed for review includes several steps, according to the archdiocese. Demographic and financial information is reviewed followed by a consultation with parish leadership, parishioners and the Archdiocesan Strategic Planning Committee.
Once that happens, recommendations are made and can involve mergers or a plan to assure future sustainability. Results will be announced in Spring 2015, the archdiocese has estimated.
Information regarding the Pastoral Planning Initiative was shared with all affected parishes over the weekend.
The parishes that will be reviewed include:

If there is one thing Angelo Que knows, it鈥檚 the Manila Southwoods Masters course. The 35-year-old Filipino veteran has spent a mind-boggling amount of time at the Cavite track.
鈥淚 think I have the record here,鈥?he confesses.
鈥淚 once played 45 days straight here. Some days 27 holes, some days 36. I鈥檇 be here seven am to seven pm. I guess I really didn鈥檛 have much of a social life when I was learning how to play,鈥?he says with a grin.
For him, nothing could be sweeter than winning the Resorts World Manila Masters on this course come November 20 to 23.
鈥淚鈥檓 really comfortable in Southwoods. When I play everyone鈥檚 behind me, so I tend to do well here.鈥?

That certainly was the case last year when Que grabbed a share of the second-round lead with Canada鈥檚 Richard Lee and Thailand鈥檚 Jazz Janewattananond. But a 74 on Saturday left him four back of eventual champ Liang wen-Chong of China, who memorably donated half of his winner鈥檚 check to Typhoon Yolanda relief. A final round 73 meant Que 聽finished tied for 25th.
鈥淭his is a course where you got to hole a lot of putts. Over the weekend last year I didn鈥檛,鈥?admitted Que.
Que does say that his form is starting to peak now.
鈥淢y game is getting better and better every week, ever since I played in the Japan tour qualifying school. A lot of it is mental.鈥?

Right now Que lies in 40th in the Asian Tour Order of Merit with US$39,575 in winnings. He can add to that with a strong finish in Southwoods next month. Resorts World Manila has jacked up the prize money from US$750,000 to US$1 million.
But if Que cannot lift the trophy in November, he hopes another Filipino will. On Friday at the Resorts World Manila Masters Media golf tournament he reeled off a list of possible homegrown winners.
鈥淢iguel Tabuena is starting to learn how to play against the veterans, and Tony Lascu帽a is playing some awesome golf right now.鈥?
Lascu帽a, a 43-year old and Que鈥檚 partner in last year鈥檚 World Cup of Golf, is in sizzling form, having finished joint second in the Asian Tour stop in Taipei last week and losing a playoff in Malaysia four weeks ago. He also finished joint second in the ICTSI Philippine Open in May.

Lascu帽a is third in the Asian Tour Order of Merit and has already earned US$222,758 in just nine starts this season. He is now ranked 136th in the world, making him the top Pinoy in the world rankings. He has also won five times in the local tour this year.

No doubt the Jack Nicklaus-designed Masters course will be a stern test in six weeks. Members of the media, myself included, played the Masters on Friday on a warm but overcast day.

The fairways are in impeccable condition and the greens slick but very fair and true. I sank almost all of my putts from within seven feet. Unfortunately the other thirteen clubs in my bag were not as well-behaved as I staggered home with a score of 102 from the white tees.

Course superintendent John Cope says the greens on that day were measured at around 9 to 9.5 on the Stimpmeter, the device used to measure the speed of golf greens.
鈥淭he greens aren鈥檛 as fast as we鈥檇 want them to be in six weeks,鈥?explained Cope.
鈥淭he Asian Tour wants 10 to 10.5, but we鈥檒l try to get them to eleven.鈥?
I find the thought of eleven on the Stimpmeter quite harrowing. The 9.5 was already insanely fast for me, having played most of my golf over the last ten years on public courses and their glacial, old-school greens.
The Masters course plays at 7375 yards from the tips. Me and my fellow media practitioners played the white tees at a much more reasonable 6432 yards.

traditional and political leaders of Ado-Ekiti community in Ekiti State have met with various stakeholders with a view to finding a lasting peace in the community following days of violence.

The emergency peaceful meeting held between the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe and the  Ewi-in-Council on one hand with leaders of Ado Progressives Union (APU) and representatives of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the other.

In a communique issued at the end of the meeting held at the palace hall, the leaders expressed sadness over the murder of Chief Omolafe Aderiye, a prominent indigene of Ado-Ekiti, and commiserated with the deceased鈥檚 family and the people of the town.

They also registered their 鈥渟adness and unreserved condemnation of the most uncivilised methods used by the hoodlums which culminated in the killing of Chief Aderiye and perpetrating wanton destruction of lives and property in Ado-Ekiti.鈥?
The communique was signed by the Odogun of Ado, Chiefs Aladetoyinbo Obayemi; the Aro of Ado Ekiti, Awopetu Fabiyi;  the Odunro of Ado, Ola-Ojo Ogunlade  and  Secretary to Ewi-in-Council, Ogunmodimu Bayo.

Others were Chiefs Obafemi Ojo (President APU) and Ogunleye Olugbayo (APU vice president 1) while Mr Tunji Adigun, the APC chairman in Ado and Mr Francis Kola Lawal, his PDP counterpart in Ado also endorsed the document.

The document said: 鈥淚t is the strong view of the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti and Ewi-in-Council that Ado indigenes should embrace peace and in oneness fight for the stability and progress of the town instead of working towards its depletion of human and material resources and development  retrogression.鈥?

N IGERIA may be the giant of Africa; we may be the largest economy on the continent, but the people are definitely not benefitting much from the country.

With our huge population, we should be seeing our companies dominating on the African continent; instead, South African companies are the ones reaping from the continent.

As an economist, I have discovered that the biggest problem we are having is our interest rates, which are so high and this is discouraging investors and business owners from taing risks. That is why we have a lot of one-man businesses stunted by lack of suppot from government or the banks. The average interest rate for lending money in Nigerian banks is 23 per cent, while the banks pay just 12 per cent to fixed depositors. This is inhibiting the growth of businesses in the country. In South Africa, for example, the average interest rate for loaning customers is six per cent. That is why a one man business can take a huge amount of money to support his business. If this happens in Nigeria, all the profit will be spent servicing the interest.

The high interest rate is why we have only a number of poorly-run one-man businesses around.

If we want to stamp our authority as the biggest economy in Africa, then we need to support small businesses. Our banks should stop lending only to oil and electricity companies. These are companies that benefit only a few wealthy individuals. Our banks should assist the small scale businesses too, while lowering the interest rate.

There is also the need for government to do more to support small businesses. At the moment, only the oil, electiricty, telecommunication, finance and construction companies are booming in Nigeria , and how many average Nigerians have stakes in these?

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) 鈥?Turkey's foreign minister insisted Monday there was no new agreement with the United States on using Turkish bases for operations against the Islamic State militants.
In comments carried by the state-run , Foreign Minister said, however, that the two countries had agreed to train and equip opposition forces.
"There is no decision at the moment concerning Incirlik or any other issue," Anadolu quoted Cavusoglu as saying in reference to a key air base in southern Turkey.
Earlier, a government official said Turkey and the United States were still talking about the Incirlik air base as well as Turkish demands for the creation of a no-fly zone and a safe haven for refugees. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the issue publicly.
On Sunday, U.S. defense officials said Turkey would let U.S. and coalition forces use its bases for operations against Islamic State militants.
Islamic State extremists have carved out a vast stretch of territory from northern Syria to the outskirts of Baghdad and imposed a harsh version of Islamic rule. The fighters have massacred hundreds of captured Iraqi and Syrian soldiers, terrorized religious minorities, and beheaded two American journalists and two British aid workers. Hundreds of thousands of refugees have fled into Turkey from Syria ahead of the militants.
A has been carrying out airstrikes against the militant targets in and around the Syrian border town of Kobani for more than two weeks. The town's fate has emerged as a major test of whether the air campaign can roll back the extremists in Syria.

On the ground Monday, a suicide bomber from the Islamic State group detonated his explosive-laden vehicle in Kobani amid fierce fighting with Kurdish militiamen there.
The sound of explosions and occasional gunfire could be heard across the border from Kobani a day after Kurdish fighters managed to slow the advance of the jihadist group. What appeared to be a rocket-propelled grenade struck a minaret in the center of the town, emitting a cloud of white smoke.
Activists said Islamic State militants were carrying out a three-pronged attack from the eastern side of the town and that clashes were reported in the southern part.
The Syrian Kurdish enclave has been the scene of heavy fighting since late last month, with the better-armed Islamic State fighters determined to capture the border post.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for said an Islamic State suicide bomber detonated a car filled with explosives Monday in the northern part of Kobani near the border with Turkey. It said the car was headed to the border crossing between Kobani and Turkey.
Later Monday, another suicide attacker blew himself up in a vehicle east of Kobani near the security quarter that houses the main police station and other local government offices, according to the Observatory and Kobani-based activist .
Shami said the first vehicle appeared to have exploded prematurely. There was no immediate word on casualties from either explosion.
Shami said coalition aircraft flying over Kobani had struck 10 times Sunday and Monday.

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Brazil coach Dunga has made a perfect start to his second stint in charge of the national side and Tuesday s friendly win over Japan offered him plenty of reasons to feel that July s World Cup nightmare could soon be forgotten.

As hosts, Felipe Scolari s side bullied their way through to the semi-finals before a 7-1 humiliation to Germany cost the coach his job and left many observers believing the rebuilding job would be a long and painful process.

Dunga, who led the side from 2006-10, was handed the task of restoring respectability for the five-times World Cup winners and his spotless record in four matches since taking over and the form of mercurial forward Neymar suggests Brazil are already on an upward trajectory.

Neymar was brilliant in Singapore on Tuesday, wowing a pro-Brazil crowd of 51,577 as he revelled in a free-roaming role to score all four goals in a 4-0 thrashing for a dominant Brazil side that exuded confidence from the kickoff.

I tinkered with the lineup today as I wanted to see how we played without a striker in the second half, Dunga told reporters, having already beaten arch-rivals Argentina 2-0 in a Beijing friendly on Saturday.

I did this because Neymar picked up a cold after the match in China and I thought it would be better to give him freedom and let him concentrate only on scoring goals, Dunga added.

All the formations seem to suit this team as I like to try different things. Even at the end when we had no strikers, it worked well.

ADDED RESPONSIBILITIES

Dunga added that not too much should be made of the victory over an inexperienced Japan side also going through a rebuilding process but was full of praise for his talismanic striker, who took his international tally to 40 goals in 58 matches.

We have told him he still has a lot of areas where he can improve, the 50-year-old coach added.

Now that he is captain he has more responsibility and status in the Brazil team. He has responded well to this yet still looks like he is playing with his friends. We still want to see him play even better.

Dunga admitted he was delighted with his side s attitude on the short Asian tour and felt that following the 1-0 friendly wins over Colombia and Ecuador last month, his squad was showing a strong desire and hunger to revive Brazil s fortunes.

The way we played these two matches shows that the team is in the right frame of mind, he said.

We beat a competitive and world class Argentina side and a Japan team that did not have jet-lag like we did. I thought we were very professional in both matches with players out to prove they already want to be considered for the next World Cup.

Wolfe was confronted by police after he was reported by a photo technician at a local pharmacy who felt the photographs being developed were suspicious, Seattle Post Intelligencer reports. The pictures were dropped off at the pharmacy under a fake name.  

The accused man told police when he was confronted that his pictures were pieces of art. 

"While (Wolfe) purports to have been taking artistic images of this little girl ... (detectives) revealed the true motivations behind the defendant's sexually posed and lascivious images," Senior Deputy Prosecutor Cecelia Gregson told the court.  

Police were able to identify the victim after examining the pictures and recognizing several of the landmarks in the background, including an elementary school, reports Seattle Post Intelligencer.  

Wolfe was charged with first-degree child molestation, second-degree possession of child pornography and two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a state offense similar to production of child pornography.   

If convicted on these charges he faces 12 to 16 years in prison. When the case goes to trial he could be convicted on a federal prosecution for producing child pornography, which would carry a mandatory 15-year sentence prosecution for producing child pornography, which would carry a mandatory 15-year sentence. Swiss Firms Demand Forensic Audit on Change of Ownership of Union Bank

Two Swiss firms, GG Private Limited and Rainmaker BV Limited, have requested a Federal High Court in Abuja to order a forensic audit of the change of ownership of Union Bank of Nigeria Plc.

The change of ownership of the bank was conducted by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Chapel Hills Advisory Partners Limited and former CBN Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, when it was sold to new investors in 2013.

 
The transaction conferred 85 per cent ownership of UBN on Africa Capital Alliance and United Global Partners Limited.

The Swiss firms are also demanding an order declaring the decision by the CBN and its former governor to approve United Global Partners Limited and Africa Capital Alliance as core investors and majority owners in UBN as ill-motivated, contrary to the public interest and ultimately injurious to them and other former stakeholders.

They also want an order to stop the sale of 9.1 per cent shares of the bank  (UBN) to Atlas Mara Co-Invest Limited, a firm owned by former Barclays Bank CEO, Bob Diamond.

The firms also wants an order restraining the Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) and the United Global Partners Limited (UGPL) with its consortium of investors including Africa Capital Alliance, Corsair Capital, FMO, Richard Chandler Corporation and Chartered Private Equity from effecting the sale of the shares.

Court processes show that GG Private Limited, owned by Rainmaker BV Limited was appointed by UBN s Board of Directors as its lead financial adviser to conduct a capitalisation and stake-sale mandate to shore up the bank s capital.

The plaintiffs are also urging the high court to issue an order declaring as ill-motivated, illegal, null and void the replacement of the mandate given by UBN in 2009 to GG Private Limited to act as the bank s Lead Financial Adviser.

In the alternative, they want an order upholding the Exclusive Mandate Agreement between them and the UBN Board of Directors, mandating them to carry out a stake sale and recapitalisation of the bank.

They also want a separate order directing a forensic audit of the change of ownership transaction in breach of the Exclusive Mandate Agreement between UBN and the plaintiffs.

Besides, they are urging the high court to declare as ill-motivated and unjustifiable the classification of UBN by CBN and Sanusi as a distressed bank.

They are claiming $41.350 million damages from the defendants including both CBN and AMCON over the alleged role they played in unlawful cancellation of the mandate given to GG Private Limited by UBN and a separate N100million damages for loss of their investments in UBN since 2009.

In the writ of summons filed by the chambers of Prof. Awa Kalu (SAN) on behalf of GG Private Limited and Rainmaker BV Limited, they alleged that UBN was indeed strong at the time the CBN classified it as distressed for ill-motivated purpose.

They also claimed that the Sanusi-led CBN deliberately handpicked individuals including the former Managing Director, Funke Osibodu, to manage the affairs of UBN after declaring it distressed.

They also posited that the Chapel Hill Advisory Partners Limited approved as an adviser to CBN in their place for stake sale and change of ownership transaction was not fit and proper to superintend the transaction.

TOKYO Shares rose in Asia on Tuesday as investors encouraged by strong China trade shrugged off a tumble on Wall Street triggered by fears that slowing growth in Europe and Asia could hobble the global recovery.
KEEPING SCORE: Japan's Nikkei 225 fell 1.5 percent to 15,079.23 after being closed for a holiday Monday while Hong Kong's Hang Seng climbed 0.7 percent to 23,315.79. South Korea's Kospi gained 0.6 percent to 1,939.11 and Australia's S&P/ASX 200 added 1.2 percent to 5,215.30. Markets in Southeast Asia also rose. China's Shanghai Composite Index gained 0.4 percent to 2,374.39.
THE QUOTE: "Growth concerns continue to rattle global investors. Signs that Europe is heading toward recession, and fears that the Japanese authorities' stimulus program is not getting traction, have many forecasters pulling down their estimates for 2014/15 growth," Michael McCarthy at CMC Markets wrote in a commentary.
US ROUT: Shares in the U.S. fell Monday over concerns that growth in Europe and Asia may be slowing, following the worst trading week in more than two years. All told, the Dow Jones industrial average lost 223.03, or 1.4 percent, to 16,321.07. The Standard & Poor's 500 shed 1.7 percent to 1,874.74.
CHINA TRADE: Chinese trade figures released Monday were at odds with generally gloomy views about the global economy. The data showed exports and imports growing faster than in expected in September, leading some analysts to predict increased momentum for the world's second-largest economy during the second half of the year.
CURRENCIES: The U.S. dollar was trading at 107.22 yen, up from 107.00 late Monday. The euro was at $1.2727, versus $1.2740 on Monday.
ENERGY MARKETS: Oil prices fell on expectations that OPEC countries will not cut output in response to lower global demand. Benchmark U.S. crude fell 65 cents to $85.09 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. It fell 8 cents to close at $85.74 a barrel on Monday.

There is no secret but the grace of God. I do everything in the world but in moderation. Again, I am surrounded by my childhood friends whom I have known for over 70 years. We have so many things in common: brotherhood, friendship, school mate, classmates. For instance, Chief Molade Okoya s wife was my wife s college mother. Above all, we have done well for ourselves in our endeavours. 
 
What was your aspiration while growing up? 
While growing up especially in my secondary school days, I used to sit very close to my good friend, Sir Molade Okoya-Thomas in Baptist Day Academy. And in 1956 when Molade was going abroad for further studies, I called him one day and said Molade, I learnt you are going to England. By the time you come back, I would have been a millionaire . I kept to my words and by the time Molade came back, I had become not a millionaire but a multi-millionaire. So my only aspiration was to be a successful man. 
 
Are there traits that singled you out in your secondary school days? 
I wouldn t know but I remember my school mates used to call me delicate millionaire because of my business exploits. I had a flair for trading and it was obvious that I would go far. By the grace of God, their predications came to pass. 
 
What gave you that conviction that you were going to succeed? 
I meant it and I prayed to my God and He answered my prayers. God helped me to use my brain well. I was a sales manager in a company. I was doing fine with this company. I led the team that introduced Cafenol, Andrews Liver Salt and so on into the Nigerian markets. When the expatriates came I was training them. And while they were in training they were my boss. Is that not ridiculous? Then I stumbled on a book which says Whichever work you do, whether you like it or not you will leave it one day. But in your little business of your own, when you leave it, you leave it to yourself. That was what gingered me and I resigned. 
 
Was that the vision that gave birth to your pool business? 
I pulled out of the company but I didn t have capital. I prayed to God and started to think of business that would not require capital and God gave me the answer. The only job that came to mind then was to be a pools agent. The only capital is a small table and a biro. This was in 1956. And that was also my year of breakthrough. I thank God for placing me on the ladder of success for the past 58 years. You know to get there is very easy but to remain there is by God s grace. What has helped me so far is prudent management. 
 
Are you planning to slow down now that you are approaching 80? 
Slow down ke?!  Please I have to enjoy my money. I beg let me chop a fraction of it before I pass on. For now, I am not slowing down. 
 
You have been on the roller coaster of success in the last 58 years, how have you been able to stay on top? 
It is the grace of God because some people work much harder than me and they are not privileged to get close to the reward I am getting from God. I will continue to thank my Maker for directing my path. And that is why I will go to any length to assist the poor especially in the areas of medical attention and education, because I believe a soul who is healthy and educated can never go hungry. With modesty, I have played my role well in the things of God as a church man. I have built churches, mosques and hospitals. 
 
How do you feel being a father to a set of twins at close to 80? 
Honestly, it is a good feeling. I feel very good because the mother waited for eight years before the bundle of joy arrived. In fact, there is peace at home. I don t see it as a big deal because my father took a wife after the age of 80. 
 
If you had to rate you satisfaction with your life so far, out of 10, what would you score yourself? 
I would score myself excellent. As said earlier, I have remained on the ladder of success since 1956. I will be 79 on October 24. Looking back, it is not by my power or my level of hard work. No, it is by His grace that 58 years after, one is still agile, relevant and still waxing strong. Normally at old age, one should eat from one s reserve but now I am making more money than when I was younger. 
 
What lesson has life taught you? 
It has not been rosy. Even when I tasted the bitter side of life, I held on to my God because He is all-in-all. Dropbox has just provided another reminder not to place complete faith in cloud storage, having allowed a bug to delete some users' files.

The bug was tied to Dropbox's feature, which helps users save space by only downloading selected folders to local storage, . In earlier versions of Dropbox's desktop software, the bug could delete files if users restarted or shut down their machines while Selective Sync was in progress.

Dropbox says the glitch affected 鈥渁 small number鈥?of people using out-of-date versions of Dropbox's desktop software. The company has been sending to , and providing personalized web pages showing which files Dropbox was able to restore. Affected users are also getting a year of Dropbox Pro service for their troubles.

For all other users, Dropbox says it has patched the desktop client and retired the older versions, forcing everyone to update. The company is also adding new test procedures to prevent similar issues in the future.

The men and women underwent baseline testing on three mentally stressful tasks, including a mental arithmetic test, a mirror tracing test and an anger recall test. Following this, they were made to take a treadmill test. Researchers also conducted echocardiography to study changes in the heart, took blood samples, and measured blood pressure and heart rate during the mental stress tasks and rest periods between tests. 

Researchers were surprised to find that while men had more changes in blood pressure and heart rate in response to the mental stress, more women experienced myocardial ischemia: decreased blood flow to the heart. Researchers also noted that women experienced increased platelet aggregation. This is known to be the start of the formation of blood clots and was more prominent in women than men. Women also displayed a greater increase in negative emotions during the mental stress tests. 

"The relationship between mental stress and cardiovascular disease is well known," lead author Zainab Samad, assistant professor of medicine at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North Carolina. "This study revealed that mental stress affects the cardiovascular health of men and women differently. We need to recognize this difference when evaluating and treating patients for cardiovascular disease." 

"At this point, further studies are needed to test the association of sex differences in the heart's responses to mental stress and long term outcomes," Samad continued. "This study also underscores the inadequacy of available risk prediction tools, which currently fail to measure an entire facet of risk, i.e. the impact of negative physiological responses to psychological stress in both sexes, and especially so among women." 

Findings of the study were  published online in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. IT was a bad spectacle for some residents of Pipeline, Kubwa, Abuja when fire destroyed all the properties of the occupants of a five- room, L-shaped boys quarters in the area.

The inferno, which started around 8:00pm on the fateful day, according to an eye witness, was very massive and uncontrollable.

Also, according to one of the occupants of the razed building, Mr.AmaechiUgwuanyi, the fire was caused by his power generating set.

He said that he started the generator so that he could shave not knowing that the generator was leaking.

The 30-year old occupant who spoke in pidgin English further said that he locked the door to where the generator was after starting it and was already adjusting the clipper which he wanted to shave with when he heard a very loud sound from where the generator was which was followed by massive fire outbreak.

Mr.Ugwuanyi disclosed that due to the intensity of the fire, he had no option but to raise the alarm which attracted more residents to the scene.

However, all their efforts to retrieve some properties was abortive as the fire burnt everything in the five-room boys quarter.

He confirmed that the fire started from a generator and spread to the gas cylinder in his house which escalated the fire.

I was shocked. We figured she was dead, said Jim Caccavo, who had been Cheiker s next-door neighbor for 35 years. When he couldn t find out what had become of the 89-year-old woman, he filed a missing person s report.

Four years later, two FBI agents rolled into the neighborhood and starting knocking on doors, asking questions and telling residents that Cheiker had been found alive 鈥?abandoned and alone in a weathered cabin near the coast of Maine.

Someone had moved Cheiker into the cabin and left her there. Alerted by neighbors, authorities in Lincoln County, Maine, said they found her living in squalor.

It was a place I wouldn t have let my dog live in, said Lincoln County Sheriff s Detective Robert McFetridge.

The cabin s lone light bulb had burned out, leaving the woman in darkness. What food there was had spoiled. The day she was discovered, the temperature had climbed into the 100s, McFetridge said.

As authorities began looking into how an elderly woman from L.A. could end up alone in remote Maine, they said they became aware of a trio of people 鈥?41-year-old twins and their 21-year-old godson 鈥?who allegedly befriended Cheiker when she still lived in her Edinburgh Avenue bungalow.

Neighbors said the brother and sister and their godson took Cheiker shopping and to doctor s appointments, and let her move in with them when the woman s bungalow was damaged in a fire.

The following year, according to public records, the Sarah Cheiker Living Trust sold the damaged house for $712,000 to a developer, who promptly tore the place down to make way for a new, larger home.

Authorities in Maine said their investigation showed that the trio then headed east on a cross-country jaunt with Cheiker, spending the proceeds from the sale as they went.

Caccavo said he recalled that after his neighbor disappeared, a storage bin was delivered to the damaged home and Cheiker s belongings were loaded up and hauled away. Caccavo said he was told the belongings were being temporarily put in storage to prevent them from being stolen should someone break into the house.

A few days later, a stranger showed up and told Caccavo s wife he had purchased the house.

It was nearly three years before deputies found Cheiker alone in the cabin near Edgecomb, Maine, a town of less than 1,500 on the coast north of Portland.

A woman across the street called us, Detective McFetridge said. The (cabin) owner had been told that people were looking for a place for a middle-aged artist who was looking for seclusion.

I think they were hoping she d expire and it would be called an unattended death, the detective said of the people who left Cheiker alone in the cabin.

The twins, Barbara Davis and Nicholas Davis, and their godson Jonathan Stevens were subsequently arrested on felony charges of endangering the welfare of a dependent person. The trio later pleaded no contest to the charges and were placed on probation, according to court records.

Lincoln County Assistant District Attorney Andrew Wright, who prosecuted the case, said the three befriended Cheiker after randomly knocking on the front door of her Edinburgh Avenue home and eventually hop-scotched across the country with her in tow.

They purchased numerous properties across the country with her money, the prosecutor said. I ve seen things that were egregious, but I d never seen a person taken across the country, stripped of their assets and left to die.

One of the defense attorneys for the trio said his client, Nicholas Davis, treated Cheiker as though she was part of the family. Lawyer Derrick Banda said he tried to convince Nicholas Davis not to plead no contest.

They had no evidence of elder abuse. They were checking on her and bringing her food every day. She was like part of the family, Banda said. My client s position was she didn t like the noise from a lot of company visiting them that summer so they put her up in a seasonal rental cabin. Somebody called the local authorities: It was the nosy-neighbor syndrome.

Banda said there was no proof of any financial impropriety by his client and that he was never able to subpoena Cheiker because authorities would not divulge her whereabouts.

Wright said the Davises and Stevens eventually turned over $7,000 in uncashed money orders, which were given to Cheiker as restitution.

Authorities in Maine said they could not investigate the alleged swindle because it occurred in California. FBI officials would not comment about any investigation into the sale of Cheiker s bungalow and Los Angeles police never got involved, aside from receiving and filing Caccavo s missing person report.

Maine authorities have now placed Cheiker in a nursing home in Fryeburg, Maine. Efforts to reach her were unsuccessful. The assisted living center s administrator, James Dutton, said he would need permission from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services before allowing her to speak with a reporter. A spokesman for that agency, John Martins, declined to grant permission, citing Maine s strict privacy rules for those under state guardianship.

Caccavo said he recently visited his old neighbor while on a trip to the East Coast to see his brother.

I was very impressed with the way he listened to the council. Gary wasn t interested in pushing his agenda, but wanted to know what the Town Council needed from him in order to represent us in the State House.

As a business leader, Gary knows the importance of creating new jobs. He knows that in order to create new jobs, the state has to make it easier to start new businesses and will help to clear the paper work for those businesses.

GULFPORT -- Kindergarten is not mandatory in Mississippi, but State Superintendent Carey Wright would love to see that changed.
With less than a month until her one-year anniversary in the Magnolia State, Wright sat down with the Sun Herald and touched on a number of topics. What she really wanted to talk about, however, was the need for early education.
"It's just frightening to think about how our children are coming in," she said.
The Mississippi Department of Education is in the process of applying for a pre-kindergarten development grant from the federal government worth up to $15 million for four years. The grant could expand existing pre-kindergarten programs for 4-year-olds by about 3,100 spots.
With the number of Mississippi children living in poverty on the rise, Wright said it's imperative to open up public pre-K for families who cannot afford private pre-K facilities.
This past year was the first where the state had a state-wide kindergarten readiness assessment. More than 44,000 students took the test and Wright said the results, which will soon be released to the public, are close to alarming.
"If there is evidence as compelling as it could possibly be for the need for early childhood programming, it's the results of this kinder
garten assessment," Wright said.
The superintendent told of one instance where a district called her office asking for help because it had a child who didn't know any shapes, colors or letters. The child, she said, knew none of the basic building blocks.
"We have got to have kids in kindergarten. It can't be an option," she said. "To me, if we're going to improve education in this state -- and we are -- we have got to get children into high-quality learning as quickly as we can. And then have them prepared."
Asked if there's pockets of resistance in the Legislature to early childhood education that's not related to finances, Wright said she was surprised to find some people believe it's governmental intrusion into a family matter.
"It was just a foregone conclusion (to me) that you went to pre-K. You didn't even think about that," she said, referring to Maryland and the District of Columbia, her last two professional stops. "When you have the level of poverty like you do in D.C. and Mississippi, the beautiful way as we all know to get children out of that is to educate them so that they have an opportunity to do something different."

FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) 鈥?Pounding rain and tornado watches didn't deter hundreds of protesters Monday outside Ferguson police headquarters, where they stayed for almost four hours to mark how long 18-year-old 's body was left in a street after he was fatally shot by police.
Organizers of the four-day Ferguson October protests dubbed the day "Moral Monday" and committed acts of civil disobedience across the St. Louis region. In addition to the initial march on Ferguson police headquarters, protesters blocked the entrance to a major employer, held a loud rally inside St. Louis City Hall, disrupted business at a Ferguson shopping center and three stores and tried to crash a private fundraiser for a St. Louis County executive candidate where U.S. Sen. was scheduled to appear.
At the Monday night, protesters briefly draped a banner over a Jumbotron video board that read "Rams fans know on and off the field black lives matter."
More than 50 people were arrested, including scholar and civil rights activist .
West was among 42 arrested for peace disturbance at the Ferguson police station. Some protesters used a bullhorn to read the names of people killed by police nationwide. Christian, Jewish and Muslim clergy members 鈥?some of whom were among the first arrested 鈥?led a prayer service before marching to the station two blocks away.
Protests have been common since Brown, who was unarmed and black, was killed by a white Ferguson police officer on Aug. 9. Tensions escalated last week when a white police officer in St. Louis shot and killed another black 18-year-old, Jr., who police say shot at officers.
"My faith compels me to be here," Bishop of the of Missouri said outside Ferguson police headquarters. "I want to show solidarity, and call attention to the structural racism of St. Louis."
Protesters were met by about 40 officers in riot gear. Several clergy members approached individual officers and asked them to "repent" for Brown's killing and other acts of violence. Some officers engaged the protesters, while others ignored the efforts.
"My heart feels that this has been going on too long," Ferguson officer told the clergy. "We all stand in fault because we didn't address this."
Outside Emerson Electric headquarters in Ferguson, six people were arrested for failing to disperse after blocking a street, spokesman said. Emerson is one of the region's largest employers.
At St. Louis City Hall, about 100 protesters blew whistles that echoed off the marble walls. Protest leader presented a list of four demands to , chief of staff for Mayor . Slay was not in the office Monday.
The demands called for an end to participation in a program providing military equipment to police, body cameras for all officers, a civilian review board for police and mandatory independent investigations whenever police kill someone.
Rainford said St. Louis is not part of the militarization program; he promised the other demands will be taken seriously.
"We are already working on all of these things," he said.
Williams said that wasn't good enough, and pledged further disruptions in days to come. One protester was arrested for property damage.
Hundreds of people marched to in the pre-dawn hours. A small group held a brief demonstration inside the upscale Plaza Frontenac shopping center in St. Louis County. Another group was turned away by police and security at a Ferguson Wal-Mart, but the store closed out of concern about the protest.
County police spokesman Brian Schellman said Monday night that several protesters were arrested there but could not provide a precise total. He added that an unspecified number of additional arrests were made at the Webster Groves fundraiser for County Councilman , a Democrat who has come under criticism for his political links to St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney .

They wouldn鈥檛 have liked their chances if the Giants鈥?bullpen closed out Game 2, but they like 鈥檈m now, thanks to punch-in-the-gut solo homers in each of the final three innings.

China approved the deal after 13 years of negotiations with Universal. The Beijing park has no definite opening date, but state-run media predicts 2019. 

"Universal Beijing will create a higher level of economic growth, understanding and cultural exchange between our two countries," Universal Parks CEO Tom Williams said in a release. "Together, we will create a unique experience that spotlights hugely popular Western entertainment concepts as well as China's rich cultural legacy. This will be an opportunity to build relationships with the Chinese people on a direct and personal level." 

Universal didn't specify what attractions the park will feature, but popular franchises such as "Harry Potter," "Despicable Me" and "Transformers" are good bets. "Transformers: Age of Extinction" broke box-office records in China this summer. 

"Universal Beijing will showcase blockbuster movie themes and present entertaining family shows that will highlight the very best of popular culture," Beijing Tourism Group Chairman Duan Qiang said. 

The Beijing park will include a Universal CityWalk entertainment complex with nightlife, restaurants and shopping. It will also feature the first-ever Universal-themed resort hotel. 

"It will be a tourism crown jewel, not only for Beijing but for all of China, bringing extraordinary entertainment experiences to the Chinese people and to our guests from around the world. In bringing Universal to China, we will also share the best of China with the world," Qiang said. 

Universal has parks in Japan, Singapore, Los Angles and Orlando, Florida. Walt Disney Parks and Resorts already has a Disneyland Resort in Hong Kong and will open another Disneyland park in Shanghai next year. A 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride and 26.2-mile run composes an Ironman triathlon, one of the most difficult sporting events in the world, one that can easily take athletes 17 hours to compete.聽
Tina Ament will be one of more than 2,000 athletes competing in the 140-mile Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii on Saturday. With a few Ironman triathlons under her belt already, Ament will make record books before she even starts the championship race: Ament is the first blind American woman to attempt to compete in the Ironman Championships.
"My life isn't going to be the same anymore," Ament told NBC's Peter Alexander on TODAY. "This is a game-changer. It's not just signing up for another Ironman race, it's huge."
Video: More than 2,000 of the world鈥檚 greatest athletes will compete in a 140-mile triathlon at the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, on Saturday. Among those will be Tina Ament, who isn鈥檛 letting her blindness stop her. NBC鈥檚 Peter Alexander reports.
Ament is one of five physically challenged athletes chosen to compete in the Ironman World Championship this year. A federal prosecutor from Alexandria, Viriginia, Ament suffers from a retinal degenerative disease that caused her to lose the majority of her eye sight; today she says she can only distinguish some light and shadows. 聽
"I'm not going to beat most of them," Ament said of her competition, which includes some of the most physically fit athletes in the world. "But I want to be in their company. I want to swim like one of them, bike like I'm one of them, run like I'm one of them."
Ament wasn't always active, however. She says she ate poorly and didn't exercise until a former boss, a federal judge, inspired her to get healthy. And Ament hasn't stopped since, taking on one Ironman after another.
Her training and competition wouldn't be possible without Ament's trusted aide, Anne Thilgis , who is always by Ament's side when she's swimming, biking and running, serving in essence as Ament's eyes, alerting her to curves, hills and any obstructions that might emerge in a training or competition course.
"She's courageous beyond words," Thilgis said of Ament. "If she decides she's going to do something, she's going to figure a way to do it."
The main takeaway of her competition, Ament said, is to "never give up on your dreams. Even if they seem very hard, or impossible. IOWA CITY Bre Cera reopened her recruiting process last summer. She visited the University of Iowa in August, then again this weekend.
The latest visit was capped by a commitment.
A 5-foot-10 junior guard from Mukwonago (Wis.), Cera told the Iowa staff Sunday that she would play for the Hawkeyes, beginning with the 2016-17 season.
I was on campus this weekend. I saw them practice and went to a football game. I loved the atmosphere. All the pieces just fell together.
Cera averaged 13.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game as a sophomore, helping Mukwonago to the Wisconsin Division 1 state semifinals.
She committed to Green Bay as a freshman, but decided to reopen her recruitment because I heard there was some interest from other schools.
I was kind of curious to see what else was out there.
Cera reportedly had offers from Illinois, Michigan State, Minnesota, Marquette, DePaul, Wisconsin, Missouri, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Iowa State, in addition to Iowa and Green Bay.
