175.44.56.210: Penn State football team addresses fumbles by running backs

@@@
So last spring, Huff changed the way Penn State's running backs carry the ball, pointing to an study that said ballcarriers who hold the ball vertically fumble less. The transition took time and remains ongoing. But Penn State's backs enter training camp today ready to cleanse the fumbles from their memories.
When I came in, I got emails, letters and calls saying, 'These guys can't hold onto the ball?' " Huff said. "I told them, 'I don't know who those guys are.' That's over.
"Anybody can tell players to hold onto the ball. Heck, all 107,000 people in the stadium do it every Saturday. How you hold onto the ball is the question."
At Penn State, backs now call the ball, "the program." Huff brought that approach from Western , where he coached last year. Head coach P.J. Fleck wanted his backs to take ball security so seriously that "it kills you to put the program on the ground."
To prevent that, Huff asked his running backs to carry the football with the tip pointed toward their chins. Huff quoted a recent NFL study of fumbles, which noted that backs who hold the ball vertically fumble less.
Essentially, Huff said, it's difficult to dislodge a football that's being carried tight and vertically against the body. Former back learned that later in his career, curbing his fumbling tendencies by making the change.
During spring drills, Huff showed clips of backs who fumbled while not holding the ball vertically. On the field, he shouted "Chin" at them daily as a reminder of where to point the football.
Zwinak, who's four yards shy of 2,000 for his career, called the transition "weird" initially, since his muscle memory was so trained Louis Vuitton Tivoli to hold the ball a different way. But he felt more confident with the change as spring drills ended.
"It's hard to break old habits," Zwinak said. "I've done it so many times that you develop a rhythm and a muscle memory with the way you carry the ball. But every time I got the ball, coach Huff is yelling, 'Chin,' so it's starting to become a habit."
Belton has high expectations for his senior year, saying he wants to be considered among the best backs in the country. To do so, he has worked to run more physically and upgrade his pass-protections skills. Handling the ball, Belton said, was another part of his evolution.
"There are just some things you can't get around," he said. "It's something we had to deal with, and it was definitely awkward at first, but we got into the groove of things. You just have to allow yourself to keep learning, do Louis Vuitton Totally things to get yourself better and prepare yourself for the next level. That's the point I'm at."
Huff said he prides himself on teaching football concepts rather than being a football "babysitter" on the field. He acknowledged that learning a method of holding the ball would be difficult. He also called it vital.
"It's like Rocky II, when Mick tried to teach Rocky how to fight right-handed," Huff said. "But when you do it the right way, you won't put the ball on the ground."
Five things to watch during Penn State training camp

1. Offensive line, offensive line, offensive line. At the media days, coach James Franklin said he expects the line to end up being a strength for us. Franklin did not note a timeline, though. Left tackle Donovan Smith will play alongside four new starters, two of them who could be defensive tackles converted to guard. Still, Franklin said the issue revolves more around experience than talent, and offensive coordinator John Donovan is skilled at calling plays that hide your deficiencies.

2. More running from the QB? Christian Hackenberg won t be running the spread, but Franklin wants him to have a scrambling mindset under duress. The coach also said that Hackenberg, who scored four rushing touchdowns last year, moves better than people think. Maybe <there>will be] a little bit more running than you ve seen in the past, Franklin said, but I don t really see us doing a whole lot of designed runs with him.

3. Broader role for the tight ends. Franklin likes their talent and playmaking ability but wants them to play a bigger part in the run game. Jesse James, Kyle Carter and Adam Breneman, who combined for 58 receptions last year, all have added size, which Breneman said is vital for blocking in the Big Ten. Meanwhile, Franklin called freshman Mike Gesicki, who benched 385 in summer testing, everything you want in a tight end.

4. Downhill defense. We throw the first punch and keep on punching, defensive coordinator Bob Shoop said. That s provocative talk, but what does it mean? Linebacker Mike Hull called Shoop s defensive style downhill, saying he expects it to produce more splash plays and turnovers. Hull, who will be central to the defense at middle linebacker, said he fits such a style. Ends C.J. Olaniyan, Deion Barnes and (a healthy) Brad Bars should thrive in the defense, as should cornerback Jordan Lucas and safety Adrian Amos.

5. Youth on parade. Freshmen will populate the two-deep and special teams, with 58 first-year players (including walk-ons) on the roster. Wide receivers Louis Vuitton W could have the biggest impact, notably DeAndre Thompkins, Saeed Blacknall and Chris Godwin.

Mark Wogenrich

@@@
All American Rejects' great performance is Musikfest's 'Dirty Little Secret'The All-American Rejects performed Saturday night at Sands Steel Stage (CHRIS KNIGHT, SPECIAL TO )August 03, 2014|By Taylor Farnsworth, Of The Morning CallAt the All American Rejects concert at Musikfest's Steel Stage on Saturday, it was clear the band knows where its success lies.It began with "Dirty Little Secret," a 2005 song that's one of the band's best known. With a handful of hits to its name, relevance to the Top-40 crowd dwindling and no big hits since "Gives You Hell" in 2008, the band still Yayoi Kusama Louis Vuitton Soldes knew how to please a crowd. As the festival's first national headlining act of 2014 after ZZ Top's opening-night cancellation, the Rejects drew just 2,477 people a number that was boosted by a lot of recent ticket giveaways, but still will be Musikfest's lowest this year. But that didn't hurt the quality of the show. Instead, with a lively performance, All American Rejects may just be the "Dirty Little Secret" of this year's Musikfest.Lead singer Tyson Ritter's stage presence was electric giving it his all and proving that at age 30 and a dozen years after starting All American Rejects, he's still got it.Throughout the set, Ritter teased the crowd, mixing hits with lesser-known tracks. As he did, he made sure to make comments to the audience about knowing what songs they really wanted to hear.As a band that achieved most of its success a decade ago, the Rejects are clearly aware that most of the crowd was there for the band's hit singles. Despite that, they managed to give a balanced performance, with some of the deeper cuts proving to be as much standouts as the hits."My Paper Heart" from the Rejects' first album was among the earlier tracks that seemed to seamlessly transition from recording to a live setting. The band continued its set with songs such as the "Beekeeper's Daughter" from its latest album, 2012's "Kid in the Street," "Walk Over Me" and "Stab My Back" before returning to hits with "Swing Swing."The crowd's energy was apparent on that last song, with much of the audience Sac port锟斤拷 锟斤拷paule singing along.Ritter was charming even when singing darker songs, making "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" jokes and commenting about scooping up dead goldfish back home. With a little bit of banter about a high-school-aged Ritter forming the band, the group transitioned to an acoustic number with "Mona Lisa," one of the sweeter, standout songs of the night. The band continued with "One More Sad Song" and "It Ends Tonight." Both tracks are more solemn in their messages, but showed that Ritter doesn't always need to be dancing around the stage to keep your attention. The band then finished its 14-song set with "Move Along," before returning for a two-song encore with the title track from "Kids in the Street," then "Gives You Hell."On that last song, the crowd went crazy, jumping up and down, full of energy, proving the All American Rejects still have it.With a set of songs that are an ode to love and relationships whether telling an ex that you hope your face gives them hell, or falling apart over a breakup the band brought a bit of angst to the stage.Even if you're experiencing none of these things, the band's stage presence and Ritter's electric personality showed the All American Rejects isn't a band to be forgotten. Maybe just kept a dirty little secret.MORE MUSIKFEST ONLINE Schedule of events Photo galleries Concert reviews Performer interviewshttp://www.mcall.com/musikfestFeatured ArticlesMore:Related Articles
November 29, 2012
July 9, 2010
April 28, 2005
September 13, 2012
October 22, 2005Find More Stories About|||Please note the green-lined linked article Sac port锟斤拷 main text has been applied commercially without any involvement from our newsroom editors, reporters or any other editorial staff.

The high Monday will be 92 with an overnight low of 70 and a high Tuesday of 95.Monsoonal moisture and a tropical low pressure system brought some rain and clouds into the San Joaquin Valley on Sunday, which helped keep the scorching triple-digit heat at bay.The most significant rainfall hit Kern County and up to a quarter-inch of rain fell in the Celine Outlet Store Tulare County mountains Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Hanford."Certainly in the Valley, we've had a few sprinkles, but that's it," said meteorologist Jim Bagnall.Raindrops fell briefly in downtown Fresno late Sunday afternoon. It was "enough to give us a little hope" that there is moisture out there, Bagnall said.Fresno's high temperature hit 90 degrees on Sunday, more than 10 degrees lower than Saturday's high of 104.The overcast skies shielded the Valley floor from heating everything up, Celine UK said meteorologist Jim Andersen. The cloud cover is "not allowing solar insulation -- so that's just how much energy is making it to the ground and warming the air above it."The clouds are anticipated to break up in the coming days while temperatures are forecast to be in the high 90s until Friday.Monday's temperature is forecast to be 97 degrees.

175.44.56.210: Yankees Over Red Sox

@@@
Things continue to get worse for the Boston Red Sox, as they lose for a second consecutive game to the New York Yankees, this time 8-7 in Fenway Park with Brett Gardner hitting a game-winning home run in the sixth inning, capping off a furious Yankees rally and comeback before some strong closing innings from Esmil Rogers, Dellin Betances and David Robertson.
If there was any hope for the Red Sox to reach the playoffs, this series with the Yankees in Fenway ended all of that. They lost two of three and instead of getting a victory that would give them some boost to this failing season, they just fall Louis Vuitton Evora deeper into despair. Losing a three run lead with three innings to go, with some awful pitching, which isn t new to this season of a World Series champion falling apart.
Brett Gardner hit a home run in the sixth inning off of Craig Breslow, only his 15th of the season. Despite not being shy to use his power, he has more triples in his career than home runs. Gardner hitting the home run capped off a four-run comeback from the Yankees, beginning with Chase Headley single RBI, Stephen Drew hitting a two-RBI single and then to Gardner, as the Red Sox couldn t Louis Vuitton Galliera score again after David Ortiz hit a two-run homer in the fourth.
This was a game of changed teams. The Yankees had Drew, another former Red Sox player, finish with 2-for-4 and four RBIs. Esmil Rogers picked up the win with three innings in which he didn t allow any hits striking out three. Rogers became the 29th relief pitcher the Yankees have used this season, a new franchise record. David Phelps who started didn t even finish the third inning, giving up six hits and five runs.
The Red Sox had their usual pitching problems, this time with Clay Buchholz, giving up eight hits and seven runs in five innings. Breslow didn t do much better coming on for him and was rewarded with the loss, falling to 2-3 this season. Buchholz ERA is at 6.20 and for Breslow it rose to 4.95 after giving up that home run in his single relief inning, with the Red Sox falling to 49-62, the third worst record in the American League.
The Yankees Louis Vuitton Lockit keep making changes to stay in the picture. Catching up with the Blue Jays and Orioles seems difficult, but they re only 1.5 games behind Toronto and five behind Baltimore. They re tied with the Royals for the chase after the Wild Card spot, sitting 1.5 games behind both the Blue Jays and the Angels, hoping that once everything settles from all their changes, they can build the kind of streak that puts them in the postseason, as if nothing has changed.

@@@
Seven and the International Olympics Committee confirmed the deal for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, and the 2020 Tokyo Games on Tuesday.
The agreement with Seven encompasses the rights for free-to-air television, pay television, radio, digital, mobile and Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV.
Asked by Fairfax Media if it was possible that Seven could own a radio network within the length of the deal, Mr Stokes said: Yes it could.
I don t know if we will, it s up to (Seven chief executive) Mr Worner, but it s possible.
Mr Stokes said he saw potential synergies in owning a radio network and a free-to-air television network.
Seven could buy radio stations in all major metro Sacs Louis Vuitton 2013 markets aside from Perth where it owns The West Australian newspaper.
The two out of three rule stops anyone owning more than two of a newspaper, commercial TV licence or radio licence in a major market, although Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull is leading a regulatory review of the media sector, which could see the rule scrapped.
Seven paid around $190 million for the three Olympic Games and the deal included an option for the network to broadcast the following two Games in 2022 and 2024. The three finalists to host the 2022 Winter Olympics are Oslo, Beijing and Almaty in Kazakhstan. Beijing and Almaty have favourable timezones for broadcasting in Louis Vuitton Millimetre Artsy Australia.
Nine took an estimated $25 million hit on its coverage of the 2012 London Olympics after it jointly paid $122 million with pay TV operator Foxtel for the broadcast rights to the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics and London.
Mr Stokes insisted that Seven had always made a profit when it had televised the Games since he became involved in the company in 1994.
We re excited that this time around, the same results will be achieved, he said.
Seven s experience in broadcasting the Games meant the network was well-versed in the effort that was required to do so, MrStokes said.
It s in Seven s DNA, Mt Stokes said. Everybody in our network has worked on the Olympics at some time and everybody in our network is enthusiastic and cares.
You have to be the equivalent of an Olympic athlete because you have to be the best that our company s got to give.
Mr Worner said the company had received several emails from potential advertising clients on Tuesday morning after the deal was confirmed.
In terms of <Seven>chief revenue officer Kurt s <Burnette> major task and that is to monetise these rights, again we haven t been able to press the button on our plans but we ve had plans, he said.
In terms of, for example, the development of programs we will launch out of 2016, those shows have been earmarked Sac Louis Vuitton Keepall and they ve been in development for quite a few months.

In a post on his website, he writes, 鈥淔riends, on my last tour of Europe, I started to give our music loving audience free organic cotton t-shirts as a way to show that we appreciate you.

175.44.56.210: Anglican bishop apologises for 'hurt and sorrow' caused by child sex abuse

@@@
The Anglican Bishop of Canberra and Goulburn has released a public apology for "any abuse and mistreatment" that may have been experienced by individuals as "a result of their engagement with our church".
The text of the apology, to be read out by Bishop Stuart Robinson at a "Lamentation Sunday" service this weekend, was made public on Tuesday afternoon and is targeted at childhood victims of sexual abuse.
Lamentation Sunday fulfils a pledge made by the bishop during his charge to the Diocesan Synod in Goulburn last September when he led the synod in a confession for past failures by the diocese to respond appropriately to child sex abuse.
While no specific instances of abuse were Louis Vuitton Neverfull given on that occasion, a report released by the Anglican Church in 2009 cited 191 cases of child sexual abuse in 17 Anglican dioceses across Australia between 1990 and 2008.
According to the Study of Reported Child Sexual Abuse in the Anglican Church, three-quarters of the complainants were male and usually aged between 10 and 15 at the time of the alleged abuse.
The study, which did not extend to Anglican schools, found most of the accused were either ordained clergy or involved in some form of voluntary or youth work.
Almost half of the 191 alleged cases were linked to just 27 people and, in some cases, the abuse extended over three years.
The study also found there were "long delays" in the reporting of abuse, the average amount of time being 23 years.
"Just over half of the cases were treated as substantiated by the church and a third as inconclusive with erroneous allegations by child complainants being rare," it said.
Speaking at last September's synod, Bishop Robinson warned members the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Assault "will shake <all> the churches to their foundations".
"This diocese is not immune," he said. "This is an area where, by acts of commission and omission on LV Monogram Idylle the part of members of the clergy and laity over many decades, we have, I confess, acted shamefully.
"It is important we acknowledge past failings and the damage this Monogram Multicolore has inflicted on vulnerable children and their families. When the abuse was committed, the innocence and joy of childhood was stolen."
The apology says: "On behalf of my episcopal colleagues and the leadership of the Anglican Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn, I wish to convey our deep and genuine sadness in relation to the pain and brokenness that people have experienced as a result of their engagement with our church.
"I take this opportunity to apologise for any abuse or mistreatment that those sharing in this event may have experienced by individuals or groups connected with our church.
"We know that hurt and sorrow can last for decades indeed, generations and so we'd value the opportunity to work with people towards wholeness, forgiveness, reconciliation and restoration, and trust that this service might begin to address such things.
"Our aim is to create and grow communities of faith that are safe, life-giving, transformative and Christ-honouring.
"In addressing personal grievances and unresolved conflict, we'll be better placed to achieve our aim.
"Thank you for sharing in this gathering with us."

Subban said, "I think that it sends a Porte-Monnaie strong message to me that they want me here and they appreciate everything I've done to this point and they believe in me as a player. I think I've always believed in that, but obviously in this process and coming out with this result, now everybody else understands it and can see it as well and doesn't have to speculate about how the Montreal Canadiens feel about me."
Subban and the Canadiens only had about 48 hours to reach an agreement after the hearing or until an arbitrary decision was made by Neumeier. Should an arbitration contract ensue, the two camps would not Pochette Louis Vuitton be able to reach a new deal until January 1, 2015.
Bergevin said, "This agreement helps consolidate the future of our team. A key element of our group of young veterans, P.K. plays with a high level of intensity every time he steps onto the ice. Despite his young age, he carries a Sacs du soir Louis Vuitton great deal of experience and brings contagious energy to the team. Defensemen of his level are a rare commodity in the NHL."
P.K. Subban was an asset to the Habs especially during the 2012-2013 season where he became the first defenseman in the team to be given the James Norris Trophy since Chris Chelios.

175.44.56.210: Why the July 31 trade deadline should be moved to August (and other Baseball Sunday stuff)

@@@
The White Celine Bags Outlet Store Sox thought they were out of it, and that鈥檚 when baseball had only one wild card per聽league.
Now it鈥檚 two, making for more teams believing they鈥檙e in the playoff hunt and, therefore, less willing to part with players they鈥檇 want to trade later in the season, once they鈥檝e concluded they鈥檙e out of the race 鈥?but it might be too late because the deadline聽passed.
It鈥檚 probably time for baseball to update its deadlines, change with the times. The July 31 deadline has been in place since 1986, when there were just four playoff teams with all four division winners going directly to the League Championship Series.ta
Teams hovering around .500 knew they had no shot at the postseason and acted accordingly at the deadline, attempting deals that would improve their rosters the following year and beyond. Baseball expanded its format in the mid-鈥?0s, forming six divisions, adding a wild card and inviting eight teams to the聽playoffs.
Now, with a second wild card, it鈥檚 10. A third of all聽teams.
I thought Aug. 31 would be a better non-waiver deadline, giving teams an extra month to determine their direction. A鈥檚 pitcher , when I passed it by him, made a convincing argument from the players鈥?standpoint that Aug. 31 is too聽late.
鈥淵ou want to set your team and have the players together for a playoff run,鈥?said Samardzija, traded from the Cubs more than three weeks before the deadline. 鈥淵ou don鈥檛 want to wait and get them together in August. You want a team to be together and have to earn a playoff聽spot.鈥?
Fair enough. So a compromise: Aug. 15. Fifteen extra days. Would still make a聽difference.
I asked the two general managers with the most service time in the majors, and , about pushing the deadline to August. Beane said he鈥檚 good with July 31 but said he has noticed fewer sellers with the latest playoff expansion. Sabean said it鈥檚 probably time to change the聽deadline.
It would need approval from聽owners.
This year鈥檚 deadline was Thursday, when 20 teams were within 6 1/2 games of a playoff spot. There鈥檚 a better chance for more separation Aug. 15. The Rays, not certain about their playoff hopes despite their recent hot run, could have known more about their fate Aug. 15 and possibly could have kept until the offseason. As it was, they were forced to make a call on their season too聽early.
鈥淵ou鈥檙e having so many clubs that are in it, and it鈥檚 difficult for teams in it to unload players. They鈥檒l guard against them carefully,鈥?said former GM ,

now an analyst on MLB Network. 鈥淚f you moved the deadline back two weeks, that could certainly spur a little bit more on the trade聽front.鈥?
In 1997, Hart was GM for Cleveland, which was leading the White Sox when they orchestrated their so-called White Flag Trade with the Giants, whose GM was Sabean, his first year on the job. The Giants won the by two games, clinching behind , one of their Celine UK Online three new聽pitchers.
鈥淚 can remember sitting around worried about our own team,鈥?Hart said. 鈥淲e had a lot of talent, we were underachieving, we had some injuries. We were very worried about the White Sox. They went out and traded those players. We sort of breathed a sigh of relief when that聽happened.鈥?
鈥?Beane said he didn鈥檛 have the Tigers in mind when making the trade, that it was done to improve Oakland鈥檚 chances to win the division. Detroit GM Dave Dombrowski had a similar view about getting Price, saying, 鈥淲hen I saw they got Lester, I wasn鈥檛 jumping up and down, thrilled they got him, by any means. He鈥檚 a good pitcher. But it didn鈥檛 make a difference in this聽deal.鈥?
鈥?So both GMs, who Celine Online Outlet faced off in the Division Series each of the past two years, said they weren鈥檛 trying to one-up each other. But that didn鈥檛 prevent Dombrowski, whose Price trade was announced shortly before the deadline, from telling Beane in a lighthearted text that he had one minute to trade for Chris Sale.
鈥?Headline in the Tampa Bay Times: 鈥淒avid Price leaves Rays, but stadium issue remains.鈥?That could also apply locally, on any subject. 鈥淵oenis C茅spedes leaves A鈥檚, but stadium issue remains.鈥?Even, 鈥淎鈥檚 win 5-2, but stadium issue聽remains.鈥?
鈥?Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. didn鈥檛 make a trade at the deadline though half his team seemed to be on the block. He cited a lack of 鈥渁ggressive action from the other end,鈥?suggesting teams didn鈥檛 make a big push for his guys. Amaro鈥檚 best bet is for some of his high-priced players to pass through waivers and get claimed this month. Expect , , and others to pass through waivers and be made聽available.
鈥? was riding a stationary bike when he was summoned into Cleveland manager 鈥榮 office. 鈥淎ll the blinds were closed,鈥?he said. 鈥淚 figured I was either going to get a beating or get traded somewhere.鈥?He came out unscathed and a聽Cardinal.

175.44.56.210: Gammy- who is telling the truth-_0

@@@
The warring versions played out as Fairfax Media confirmed court documents showing a series of 1997 child molestation charges against Mr Farnell, who was given a three-year jail term for sexually molesting two girls under the age of 10. He had pleaded not guilty to six charges of indecently dealing with a child under 13.
West Australian child protection services were called in by police to investigate the ''suitability'' of Mr Farnell following the disclosure of the molestation offences.
On Tuesday night there were reports child protection officers had visited the home but were not able to speak to the couple.
The revelations fuelled what has become a global story about Gammy's apparent abandonment.
Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop announced the government would be examining Gammy's case, which was labelled ''tragic'' by Prime Minister Tony Abbott. It is understood an interdepartmental committee, which first met on Monday, would also look at broader issues relating to international surrogacy arrangements.
''We're looking at it from every angle, in terms of foreign affairs, immigration and the Attorney-General's office,'' she said.
A leading surrogacy lawyer, Stephen Page, called for criminal checks in Australia before intended parents engage a surrogate overseas.
Australian parents who have a child born to a surrogate in a foreign country are subject to a check by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection to determine the child's eligibility for citizenship, but not whether the parents have a criminal history.
In contrast, Australian parents adopting a child from overseas or domestically must undergo strict background checks. Australian couples undergoing IVF also undergo criminal checks in Victoria.
Meanwhile the condition of Gammy Sac Louis Vuitton Neverfull has dramatically improved since he was rushed Sac Louis Vuitton Palermo to a hospital near Pattaya last Saturday suffering from a lung infection and what was believed to be a hole in the heart.
A spokesman for the hospital said on Tuesday doctors assessing Gammy reported he may not need heart surgery and will probably be able to go home in a couple of days.
Gammy's surrogate mother said on Tuesday she wanted the girl back ''because she is my baby. She was in my womb''.
She said she was shocked by the report the father had a conviction in Australia. ''But I will leave it up to the law whether I get my daughter back whatever happens is fate,'' she said.
On Tuesday a friend of Mr and Mrs Farnell issued a statement to Fairfax Media's Bunbury Mail to give the couple's side of the story for the first time.
David Farnell is a well-known Bunbury electrician. He has three grown-up children and is believed to have married his second wife, Wendy Li, in China in 2004.
''This has been absolutely devastating for them, they are on the edge,'' the family friend said.
''Legally they have been told not to say anything but they wouldn't be able to anyway.''
She said reports made by the Thai surrogate mother that the couple had requested an abortion when they found out Gammy had Down syndrome, and that they had subsequently abandoned the baby boy, were completely false.
The birth of the twins had been planned to take place at a major international hospital in Thailand.
But Ms Pattharamon had gone to another smaller hospital, which made the surrogacy agreement void, according to the couple. This meant the Farnells had no legal rights to the babies, even though they were the biological parents.
The babies were born two months premature due to complications. She said the couple was not told that Gammy had Down syndrome, but they were told he had a congenital heart condition.
''Gammy was very sick when he was born and the biological parents were told he would not survive and he had a day, at best, to live and to say goodbye,'' the friend said.
Ms Pattharamon then said she wanted to keep Gammy and give him a proper Thai funeral.
The couple became embroiled in a legal battle to bring home the female twin. The 21-year-old surrogate mother finally agreed to hand the baby girl over, but the couple were terrified she could change her mind.
''All this happened when Thailand was in a military lockdown and Sac Louis Vuitton Pallas very difficult to get around,'' the friend said.
''The biological parents were heartbroken that they couldn't take their boy with them and never wanted to give him up, but to stay would risk them losing their daughter also.
''They prayed for Gammy to survive but were told by doctors that he was too sick, not because of the Down syndrome but because of his heart and lung conditions and infection.''
Mr and Mrs Farnell spent two months in Thailand and extended their visas but due to the unrest said they had no option but to leave without Gammy.
A fundraising campaign has raised almost $220,000 for Gammy's medical costs and long-term care.
The fallout from the case threatens an estimated 200 Australians who seek surrogacy arrangements in Thailand every year.

Soul singer Brian Owens, who has performed tributes to Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Donny Hathaway as part of his Master Series, adds Johnny Cash to the list with his show Thursday night at the Sheldon Concert Hall. Here are his favorite Cash songs.鈥?鈥淕et Rhythm鈥濃€淵ou will hear me say this over and over about Johnny Cash tunes but I love the story in this song. I love Cash鈥檚 ability to paint very simple yet vivid pictures with the lyrics. I also very much appreciate the message of this song. I mean, he takes an encounter with a shoe shine boy and turns it into a commentary on true happiness and contentment in the face of tough realities. My favorite line is, 鈥業t only costs a dime, just a nickel a shoe/Does a million dollars worth of good for you/Get rhythm when you get the blues.鈥?鈥濃€?鈥淲alk the Line鈥濃€淏ecause you鈥檙e mine, I walk the line.鈥?-- CashAs a man a faith, there are two persons Celine Handbags Outlet in my life that I can apply this lyric to; My wife and my Christ. Having motivation to pursue what is right is a necessity for me in an industry that can very easily mislead you. I can definitely attest to keeping a close watch on this heart of mine in an effort to be the man I鈥檓 called to be.鈥濃€?鈥淛ackson鈥?We got married in a fever, hotter than a pepper sprout. We been talking bout Jackson, ever since the fire went out.鈥?-- Cash鈥淚鈥檒l be sharing the stage with Erin Bode on this Johnny and June classic. I love the way in which they playfully interact with one another even though the song is about two lovers who are on the outs! Celine Bags New Arrivals I hope that we can capture even a little bit of the chemistry they had.鈥濃€?鈥淢an in Black鈥濃€淚 think this song shows off Cash鈥檚 lyrical genius and consciousness as bout as good as any of his compositions. Again, the imagery that he uses is wonderfully vivid and allows you to not only hear but also see what it is he鈥檚 singing about. I think my favorite line is, 鈥業 wear it for the prisoner who has long paid for his crime, But is there because he's a victim of the times.鈥?Such timeless commentary.鈥?鈥淕reystone Chapel鈥濃€淎 great song with a great story. Cash didn鈥檛 write this one but instead it was composed by an inmate at Folsom Prison named Glen Sherley. This cat was super talented and when Cash recorded the Celine Trapeze Bags Live at Folsom Prison album in 1968, he and the band surprised Sherley, by playing his song. Cash would later help Sherley obtain a parole and a music career. The story doesn鈥檛 exactly end well with Shirley committing suicide as he found himself unable to deal with the reality of freedom beyond the walls of Folsom. But, the song is a great testimony of faiths ability to unlock the chains of the mind even when the body may be imprisoned. 鈥業nside the walls of a prison, my body may be. But my Lord has set my soul free.鈥橞rian Owens Performing the Music of Johnny CashWhen 7:30 p.m. Thursday 鈥?Where The Sheldon Concert Hall 鈥?How much $15-$50 (all proceeds benefit the Little Bit Foundation) 鈥?More info MetroTix

@@@
Mrs. Fields' owner purchased TCBY in 2000, but the company filed for bankruptcy eight years later, and then restructured in 2011 to become Famous Brands International.
David Bloom, chief operating officer of Famous Brands, acknowledged that the chains have been in a rut. Sales of both fell about 7% last year, according to Technomic, a restaurant industry research firm.
After Z Capitol Partners purchased Famous Brands last summer, the company decided to pair the two chains Sac Louis vuitton in an attempt to revive growth and profits.
"We feel we now have a significantly better offering, so we feel comfortable coming back," Bloom said.
The company has already doubled its store openings compared to last year, Bloom said. Dual-branded stores account for 80% of that growth.
The new shops are the latest example of dessert chains expanding their menus to stay afloat in a saturated market, said Bonnie Riggs, a restaurant industry analyst with the NPD Group.
Crumbs Bake Shop is planning to reopen with a wider dessert selection, and Red Mango Frozen Yogurt recently added sandwiches, wraps and salads with its sister company, Smoothie Factory, to become more of a cafe.
Riggs said although Mrs. Fields and TCBY suffered from overexpansion, high rents and changing trends, their strong brand recognition gives them a leg up. "People will try them again," Riggs said.
The dual-brand concept could be a game changer LOUIS VUITTON Site Officiel for the company, agreed Mary Chapman, director of product innovation for Technomic.
"Pairing a frozen dessert with a bakery style treat hedges trends," Chapman said. "If consumer tastes shift from one, the other is there to back it up."
Bloom said he believes that an updated image and TCBY's healthy options will appeal to L.A. consumers. Four dual-concept stores are slated to open in L.A. within six to eight months with seven more set to open in the county. Mrs. Fields' existing mall locations will add frozen yogurt, starting with a store in the Santa Anita fashion mall.
At the new shops, customers can order a variety of TCBY frozen yogurts, including a vegan option and one mixed with Mrs. Fields brownies. Cookie-and-yogurt sandwiches, LOUIS VUITTON Homme muffins and coffee are also offered.
Each store will also have a Mrs. Fields gift station where customers can customize and ship red tins filled with baked goods worldwide.

@@@
I wasn't sold on the haircut at first, and my 13-month-old daughter didn't appear to be either. The day I came home with the new look, she seemed unsure that I was the right person.
Fair enough. I'm not totally sure either. I'm not sure I'm the person who can handle being the mother of a toddler and chemo. I'm not sure I can be a reasonably good wife and mother (whatever that means) while dealing with this.
I know that, for a mum with cancer, I have it relatively easy. Hodgkin's is curable. There's a decent chance I will have six months of chemo and then I'm done. I'm not being given months to live. Surgery and radiation are unlikely. I have a supportive husband, good insurance, a job at a wonderful company, and friends Sac Louis Vuitton SC Bag and family who are happy to help with my daughter or the dog. Many people have it much worse.
But it still sucks. I might be on the lucky side for a cancer patient, but I'm a 33-year-old mum who has to deal with this major medical issue.
A little background: My only symptom has been itching. A lot of it. For months. I felt silly going to the doctor about it, and then I felt silly for going to get the chest X-ray she ordered. But then the technician took the X-ray and then told me to wait for the radiologist. There was no way that was a good sign. A CT scan followed. There was a mass in my chest.
It could be a lot of things, most of which fell into the Sac Louis Vuitton Siracusa category of "crappy but could be worse." I had a procedure to get some of the tissue for biopsy, and after another weekend of waiting, I received the diagnosis of Hodgkin's, a cancer of the immune system.
Having a diagnosis is better than having an unnamed mass in your chest. The latter is more likely to make you stare at the ceiling at night and think about what you'd do if they told you you had six months to live.
But no one told me that.
And so I count the ways in which I'm lucky. I haven't had time to wallow over this diagnosis or feel sorry for myself. As bad as I feel that Matilda got stuck with a mum who has cancer, it's nice to have someone Sac Louis Vuitton Sistina else's needs and emotions come first - and Matilda has plenty of both. Since the discovery of the mass in my chest, what I've been most struck with is how much joy she has. Her joy at my arrival home from work, at reading a book (for the 500th time), at eating a new food, lift up my mood and make the days not just bearable but enjoyable.
And so here I am. Writing can be therapeutic, and selfishly I'm hoping to find answers from parents who've been here. I will use this as an excuse to call experts to get tips on how to deal with this, what to tell kids at different ages, how to learn to ask for help when you need it. I'd like to explore the joy and stress. I'd like to know when, or if, I get to be selfish. I'd like to know what to expect when they start pumping these drugs into me.
WACO (August 3, 2014) The Little League World Series is a dream for many kids across the country, and the road to Williamsport, Pa., runs right through Waco.
Every year since 2001, the Southwest Regional Tournament has been held in Waco.
The winner advances to the Little League World Series.
The week-long event brings an increase in visitors to the city.
"In reality, we're bringing in an event that is bringing about a quarter million in revenue to the city," says Regional Director Sergio Guzman.
The teams and their supporters, who come from as far as New Mexico and Colorado, are responsible for increased business at local restaurants and hotels.
"It brings in a lot of other people from other states, and I think you get to see what Waco has," resident Aaron Fiorentino said.
"This is an incredible facility right in our own back yard and I just think it's awesome that this Southwest Regional is held here in Waco, Texas."
Guzman says the community as a whole is what Little League was founded on; calling them a "grass roots program."
Otherwise you risk this turning into an archaic game that nobody wants to play because the daily language isn't accepted there. It's got to keep up."
The publishing house this week released a sample of the new words, which add 30 pages to the dictionary last updated 10 years ago.
In addition to "bromance," "chillax," "selfie" Louis Vuitton Rendez-Vous and "buzzkill," the list includes terms like "hashtag," commonly used with Twitter; "dubstep," an electronic dance music that has gained popularity in the past few years; "texter," referring to one who texts; and "meh," an expression of ambivalence used on social media and in text messaging.
New additions such as "webzine" and "frenemy" and "funplex" have been around a decade or two and may feel a little closer to Gen X terminology. The same goes for "mixtape" and "beatbox," also in the new book, which took their places firmly in the American vernacular by the end of the 1980s but have stayed current in spite of changes in technology and pop culture.
"It's not just the words that get into society," said Chris Cree, co-President of the Louis Vuitton SC Bag North American Scrabble Players Association in Dallas, which oversaw the update. "They are also words that have the potential of sticking around."

175.44.56.210: Gammy- who is telling the truth-

Meanwhile the condition of Gammy Sac Louis Vuitton Eden has dramatically improved since he was rushed Sac Louis Vuitton Evora to a hospital near Pattaya last Saturday suffering from a lung infection and what was believed to be a hole in the heart.
''All this happened when Thailand was in a military lockdown and Sac Louis Vuitton Galliera very difficult to get around,'' the friend said.

@@@
View gallery.Louis van Gaal says he will inform his players which of them are free to leave the club after tonight's friendly against , but I think he will have made his mind up a long time ago.The papers have been full of speculation as to which names will be Louis Vuitton Tassen Kopen for the chop, so here鈥檚 my pick of four players who need to go, and one who should have a stay of execution.NANI: OUTView gallery.I just think he is too inconsistent for a top club. He has the ability but it just appears that he doesn鈥檛 want it badly enough. He wants to do a few stepovers and a few backheels but that isn鈥檛 how you win things, is it? When he is at it he has been very pleasing on the eye but his big performances are too few and far between.I saw him come on as a sub coming on for before anyone knew him, and instantly you thought, 鈥榯his boy has got something鈥? But as you do with those types of players, you wonder if he can put it together and have a career at the top level and he has never managed to do that.It was a bit bizarre that he got a new contract last season. For starters he was never a player and I thought he had had enough time at Manchester United to prove his worth, without managing to do so. Perhaps they were protecting his value so they could sell him this year and they will get good money because there is always someone willing to try and get the best out of him.JAVIER HERNANDEZ: OUTView gallery.It鈥檚 time for him to go. In terms of being top class he falls just short. He is very enthusiastic and works very hard but he suffered last year because Manchester United didn鈥檛 create the chances that they usually do. If he plays in a team that creates chances and you get him in the box, he will always score goals. For his sake, I think he needs to find regular football. He isn鈥檛 quite what United are looking for and there is no shame in that. Louis Vuitton He will leave with the blessing of the United supporters after trying his heart out. His efforts have been fantastic. He made a big impact in his first season but he never really kicked on, and regressed if anything. He is so reliant on other players and doesn鈥檛 have enough on his own to truly be a world class player.SHINJI KAGAWA: OUTView gallery.Where do you fit him in? He is ever so talented, and did fantastically well at Borussia Dortmund, but where is his place in the side? He hasn鈥檛 taken to the tempo of the Premier League in truth and I think he is expendable because United have too many players like him, and they are better than him too.If Van Gaal is going to play one playmaker behind two strikers then it is going to be . They spent all that money on him and need to play him in his best position, and that will mean that there鈥檚 no space for Kagawa. Van Gaal knows he has better options. Some United fans feel he was never given a decent run in his favourite position, while others believe he never took the chances which came to him. I think it鈥檚 a combination of the two, but either way I would be amazed if there weren鈥檛 a queue of clubs in waiting to sign him given the impact he had with Dortmund. Given his marketability in Asia I think he is an attractive prospect and you鈥檒l get a good price, and that鈥檚 another reason they will sell him.ANDERSON: OUTView gallery. He just doesn鈥檛 get what it takes. Although he isn鈥檛 a big talker in the media, you get the impression he is the kind of player who likes to point the finger at someone else and attribute blame. Ultimately it is his career 鈥?he needs to get on with things but he hasn鈥檛 done that. There are too many other things that turn his head.I don鈥檛 think he is helping himself off the pitch. But take all that away and get down to the nub of the matter: he just doesn鈥檛 have the ability. As a No. 6 or 8 in midfield he just comes up short. There are clubs in the Premier League where he could play, but Manchester United is not one of them.I鈥檝e seen him have very good games, but he just doesn鈥檛 have the consistency or quality to deserve a place in the United squad, as Van Gaal goes about swinging the axe to perform necessary surgery on his squad.MAROUANE FELLAINI: INView gallery. He is not a popular figure amongst the United support but Fellaini has never had the luxury of playing in a United team that has been playing well or full of confidence. He got off to an awkward start when he joined them and David Moyes failed to get the best out of him, despite having done so at .Under Van Gaal, I still think there could be a role for Fellaini. He has got the kind of game that will cause even the best teams in Europe problems, if he is used in the right fashion. If United are playing 3-5-2 then he might have a chance of playing just in behind the front two. Whether he plays well or not, he will always bring you a physical presence that unsettles defenders. He is always a handful. He would be hard done by if he is culled from Old Geodkoop Louis Vuitton Trafford after only a year and he deserves another chance to impress; he鈥檒l be desperate to. The best football he has played has been in the Premier League and I think it鈥檚 the perfect environment for him: he can thrive in a long-ball system or with the ball on the deck.Sports & RecreationSoccerManchester UnitedVan Gaal

@@@
Like the number that preceded it (34), this number also was worn by some pretty good running backs in Dolphins history. As we tick the days off to Louis Vuitton Neverfull the season opener against the Patriots on Sept. 7, each day we highlight the players who wore that particular jersey number during their tenure in Miami. In some cases, the player and jersey number are synonymous. In other cases, the jersey number represents sustained greatness at a particular position. Whatever the case may be, jersey numbers are an important part of the fabric of professional football.

###############
Like the number that preceded it (34), this number also was worn by some pretty good running backs in Dolphins history. It started the first year, with running back Billy Joe (1966), who unfortunately had his best games behind him when he joined the Dolphins. He was the big name offensively (Wahoo McDaniel was the big catch defensively) among the players Miami selected in the 1966 expansion draft. He was only three years removed from being named as the AFL鈥檚 Rookie of the Year in 1963 with the Denver Broncos. He was then traded to the Buffalo Bills in 1965, in exchange, ironically enough, for fullback Cookie Gilchrist - the two would later be united as teammates a year later with the expansion Dolphins. Joe went on to make the AFL All-Star team in 鈥?5, but the Bills exposed him in the expansion draft where he became the Dolphins鈥?prized offensive pick. But Joe didn鈥檛 achieve that same success in Miami, rushing for 232 yards his one year with the Dolphins while splitting the fullback duties with Gilchrist. After his career ended, he did go on to be a successful college head coach for 33 years, winning two NAIA Championships LV Monogram Idylle and making the College Football Hall of Fame. The jersey was then worn by a number of reserve running backs until 1989, when first round draft pick Sammie Smith (1989-91) wore it. Smith was an immediate starter as a rookie, but despite leading the Dolphins in rushing his first two years in the league, he was never a fan favorite. Dolphin acolytes never felt he lived up to his first round billing, in part because of some fumbles at inopportune times. The next player to wear the jersey was a little more successful 鈥? running back Karim Abdul-Jabbar (1996-99). He joined the Dolphins amidst some confusion, in part fueled by his jersey number. Coming out of UCLA, he wore the name number and had a similar name to another Bruin great, basketball star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and many Dolphin fans thought they might be related in some fashion. But that wasn鈥檛 the case, and the Dolphins鈥?Abdul-Jabbar carved out an identity of his own in Miami. As a rookie he led the Dolphins in rushing in 1996 with 1,116 yards, the first time a Dolphin runner cracked the 1,000 yards rushing barrier in 18 years, dating back to Delvin Williams鈥?1,258 yards in 1978. Abdul-Jabbar rushed for 892 yards and 15 touchdowns the following season and his rushing TD total that year still is the second highest single season figure in Dolphin history. But Abdul-Jabbar never seemed to get his due and despite rushing for another 960 yards in 1998, he was replaced in the starting lineup the following season by J.J. Johnson. One of the more underrated players in Dolphin history, Abdul-Jabbar still ranks seventh among the team鈥檚 all-time leading rushers and is a surprising fourth in career rushing touchdowns behind Larry Csonka, Ricky Williams, and Ronnie Brown, all of whom played considerably longer in Miami than he did. The jersey Monogram Multicolore is now being worn by running back Daniel Thomas (2011-current), who is working hard add his own history to that number.

The complete list of Dolphins who have worn #33 includes Billy Joe (1966); Hubert Ginn (1974); Stan Winfrey (1975-77); Billy Cesare (1980); Bo Matthews (1981); Rich Diana (1982); Craig Ellis (1986); *Ronald Scott (1987); Sammie Smith (1989-91); Karim Abdul-Jabbar (1996-99); Deon Dyer (2000-02); Vick King (2004); Jereme Perry (2007); Nate Jones (2008-09); and Daniel Thomas (2011-13).

###############

Tomorrow: The first Dolphin to wear #32 scored the team鈥檚 first-ever regular season touchdown. Its not a significant savings on Atlanta's part but is a trend that Danny Ferry has followed with free agents during his time with Atlanta. The best example of this was with the four-year $24 million deal signed by in 2013. Korver made $6.7 million with the Hawks last season but that total will drop to $5.2 million during the final year of the deal in 2017. Structuring contracts this way adds more flexibility to the team's cap picture in future years. While all of that added flexibility has yet to pay off for the Hawks as of yet, Ferry has been very cautious and mindful of the situation and this is another example of such.

ATLANTA Missionary Nancy Writebol, one of two known Americans stricken with Ebola, wasn't looking to abandon her overseas work. But Jeremy Writebol believes his 59-year-old mother can yield a greater good from her impending return to the United States amid West Africa's worst-ever outbreak of the often-deadly virus. The attention focused on her case "might help develop a cure and resources to help those who are suffering," the younger Writebol said. "I am sure hopeful for that."A Liberian government official has confirmed that a medical evacuation team is scheduled to fly Nancy Writebol back to the United States early Tuesday. She will receive treatment at Atlanta's Emory University Hospital alongside one of her mission partners, Dr. Kent Brantly, who was admitted Saturday. The American cases make headlines as dozens of African heads of state converge on Washington for the Monday opening of the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit, a three-day gathering hosted by President Barack Obama. Among the stated purposes: discussing how to help African nations overcome systemic challenges, including disease.Brantly and Writebol contracted Ebola after working on the same medical mission team treating victims of the virus around Monrovia, Liberia. More than 1,300 people have been stricken, killing at least 729 of them in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone.Ebola has no vaccine or antidote. Contracted through close contact with bodily fluid and blood as opposed to an airborne virus like influenza or the common cold Ebola causes hemorrhagic fever that kills at least Celine Bags Outlet Store 60 percent of the people it infects in Africa, where substandard health care makes it easier to spread the virus and harder to treat it. Yet medical experts say recovery prospects are much greater at modern hospitals that follow strict controls for infection control.Emory, where Brantly already is quarantined, boasts one of the nation's most Celine UK Online sophisticated infectious disease units. Patients are sealed off from anyone not in protective gear. Lab tests are conducted inside the unit, ensuring that viruses don't leave the quarantined area. Family members see and communicate with patients through barriers.Brantly's wife released a statement Sunday saying she had gotten to see her husband, a physician with the international relief group Samaritan's Purse."Our family is rejoicing over Kent's safe arrival, and we are confident that he is receiving the very best care," Amber Brantly said.Writebol and her husband, David, had been in Liberia since August 2013, sent there by the Christian organization SIM USA and sponsored by their home congregation at Calvary Church in Charlotte, North Carolina."They take the Great Commission literally," said their pastor, the Rev. John Munro, referring to the instruction from Jesus Christ to "make disciples of all nations."At the hospital where Brantly treated patients, Nancy Writebol worked as a hygienist whose role included decontaminating those entering or leaving the Ebola treatment area. Munro said David Writebol fulfilled administrative and technical duties.A few weeks before she was diagnosed, Jeremy Writebol said, a doctor visited the Monrovia hospital where she worked and praised the decontamination procedures as the best he'd seen. Jeremy Writebol said she was "really pleased by knowing that" and never thought she would be infected, despite her proximity to the virus.David and Nancy Writebol have engaged in foreign missions for 15 years, spending five years in Ecuador and nine years in Zambia, where Munro said they worked in a home for widows and orphans.Munro recalled speaking with the couple when the Ebola outbreak began."We weren't telling them to come back; we were just willing to help them come back," he said. "They said, 'The work isn't finished, Celine Online Outlet and it must continue.'"After talking with his father Sunday, the younger Writebol said it's clear his mother "is still suffering," but said the family remains optimistic.Officials at the U.S. Centers for Disease Controls and Prevention, also in Atlanta, say they've gotten some blowback for bringing Ebola cases to an American hospital. But Dr. Tom Frieden, CDC director, emphasized again Sunday that there is no threat to the public in the United States."We know how to control it: hospital infection control and stopping it at the source in Africa," Frieden said Sunday on ABC's "This Week."Frieden's agency is ramping up its effort to stem Ebola's spread. He promised "50 staff on the ground" in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone "in the next 30 days."Some airlines that serve those nations have suspended flights, while international groups, including the Peace Corps, have evacuated some or all representatives in the region. But the Writebols, their pastor predicted, won't be away from the stricken land for any longer than they have to be."They knew that Liberia was a tough assignment," he said, comparing their vocation to the Bible's stories of leper colonies."Followers of Christ went into those colonies, knowing they would die," Munro said. "I certainly wouldn't judge them if they didn't go back, but I don't think this will deter them."---Hegeman reported from Wichita, Kansas.

@@@
Fair has a history of trying to dumb down the teaching of science. Back in February, he blocked the state education oversight committee from using the phrase 鈥渘atural Milticolor monogramme ceinture selection鈥?in the state science standards. Speaking to the , Fair said
鈥淭o teach that natural selection is the answer to origins is wrong. I don鈥檛 think it should be taught as fact.鈥?<Mike>Fair, S.C. legislator]
Ignorant barely begins to describe this statement. Mike Fair clearly doesn鈥檛 have the faintest grasp of biology or genetics. He鈥檚 the last person that anyone should want to weigh in on science standards. His behavior goes far beyond mere ignorance, though: not only is he wrong, but he wants to use the power of the state to impose his religious views, under the guise of science, on every student in South Carolina鈥檚 schools. No wonder South Carolina is perennially ranked near the bottom of the country in public education.
I have a confession to make. I grew up in South Carolina and went through the public schools there, from kindergarten right through high school. I met lots of guys like : popular, plays on the football team, student body president. These guys are usually bullies (we鈥檝e all seen the movie), and that鈥檚 just what Fair is demonstrating now: he wants to bully every teacher, and every child, into listening Trunks et sacs Damier ceinture to his ignorant views of science. I鈥檝e no doubt that if Fair could require prayer in every school 鈥?Christian prayer, that is 鈥?he鈥檇 do that too. I grew up surrounded by this kind of nonsense, but I didn鈥檛 speak up then because I would have been ostracized. Well, I鈥檓 speaking up now.
Fair and his colleagues in the Republican-dominated S.C. House of Representatives argue that no, they aren鈥檛 forcing teachers to teach creationism 鈥?they just want to teach the controversy. Equally appalling is the position of the S.C. Superintendent of Education, , :
鈥淲e ought to teach both sides and let students draw their own conclusions.鈥?
No, you shouldn鈥檛. There is no scientific controversy about evolution. Evolutionary theory is based on an enormous edifice of facts, with literally tens of thousands of scientific papers providing evidence to support it. There is no competing theory out there.
Ironically, three years ago Fair introduced a bill to prevent the imposition of Islamic-based Sharia law in South Carolina. He
鈥淎 growing concern is the immigration of people who are accustomed to their religion and their civil laws Chaussures Louis Vuitton being inextricably connected. For those newcomers to our state, this bill will be helpful to them as they are assimilated into our culture maintaining complete freedom to worship as they please.鈥?
Reading this sent my irony meter way into the red zone. Let me see if I understand: Mike Fair doesn鈥檛 want religion and civil laws to be 鈥渋nextricably connected鈥?鈥?but he does want to require that public, state-funded schools teach his religious view of the creation myth. I guess what he meant to say is that it鈥檚 okay to mix religious fundamentalism and civil law, as long as it鈥檚 Mike Fair鈥檚 brand of Christian fundamentalism.
South Carolina doesn鈥檛 even need its own set of science standards, nor does Texas, Louisiana, or Kansas. The laws of science don鈥檛 change when you cross state lines or national borders. Allowing politicians to set science standards is a recipe for disaster, and is one reason why the U.S. continues to lag the rest of the world in science education鈥攁s South Carolina has once again demonstrated.

@@@
NAIROBi, Kenya I really want to go back to school so that I can get a job and live a better life, Changamile told us from her home in rural Malawi. But Changamile married at 16, and she has too much housework and no support from her family to return to school.
Dozens of leaders from countries around Africa, including Malawi, are in Washington through August 6 for the first US-African Leaders Summit, with the theme Investing in the Next Generation. The US State Department says it will be an opportunity to discuss ways of unlocking opportunity. For a positive return on investment in the next generation, girls like Changamile need to be on the agenda, or it will be a wasted opportunity.
The US government and African leaders surely know that education is key to unlocking girls potential, improving their health and promoting equality. But ending early and forced marriages is essential to improving African girls access to education.
with the highest rate of child marriage are in Africa. Child marriage often ends girls education, harms their health, exposes them to a life of violence and undermines government efforts Louis Vuitton Tassen to promote gender equality and end poverty.
In terms of return on their investment, leaders couldn t pick a better issue. Governments could potentially cut the gender gap in education in half by eliminating child marriage and early pregnancy, according to .
Ending child marriage demands a comprehensive strategy to address its root causes and to reach out to girls who are already married. The US Congress recognized this and in 2013 required the Obama administration to develop and implement a multi-year and multi-faceted strategy to end child marriage.
The administration has yet to act on this mandate. Competing side events at the Summit on investing in health and investing in women for peace and prosperity represent two key discussions directly related to child marriage. This scenario reflects the challenges to creating the holistic approach to unlock the potential of adolescent girls. The US approach to Louis Vuitton Kopen child marriage may remain fractured without a clear, coherent strategy.
Nevertheless, the United States recently to ending child marriage, by supporting programs in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, and Tanzania. And it has committed to providing health care and access to education to married children, and to raising awareness on girls education.
These are positive steps, but they overlook a key area where the United States can have considerable impact: prevention. has found that investing in adolescent sexual and reproductive health, including information, services and education would go a long way in preventing adolescent pregnancy, one of the drivers of child marriage in Africa.
Foreign assistance can help, but ultimately African leaders themselves need to take the lead. Fortunately some have done so, recognizing the impact of child marriage on their economies, societies and overall future development, and they are acting to give the girls in their countries a brighter future.
The African Union initiated to end child marriage in the region. The African Union campaign is ground-breaking. It urges leaders to protect the rights of girls including enforcing or enhancing legal protections, raising awareness with communities about the harm of child marriage and developing national strategies to combat it. To be effective, this campaign needs to have measurable targets, and real political weight behind it.
There couldn t be a better time for African leaders to demonstrate their real commitment to ending child marriage than at a global summit aimed at the next generation. African leaders and their governments need to outline concrete steps to unlock the potential of adolescent girls including through policies to end child marriage and help pregnant and married girls to continue their schooling.
African leaders and donor countries like the United States need a shared vision for this effort. Just a few days ago, Louis Vuitton Handtassen President Obama showed he understands how important this is when he from Africa to make the advancement of women a universal priority.
He and Africa s leaders can all agree that ending child marriage needs to be a part of that. Investing in the next generation means reaching out to girls like Changamile and giving them a chance to become the next generation s stars.
Agnes Odhiambo is a senior researcher and Amanda Klasing a researcher in the women s rights division of Human Rights Watch.
The New Jersey State Supreme Court ruled yesterday that rap lyrics introduced at a defendant s murder trial were prejudicial and should not have been allowed聽into evidence. The N.J. Supreme Court upheld an appellate court s ruling that reversed the conviction.
The case stems from the November 8, 2005, shooting of Lamont Peterson. The defense objected to the introduction of the lyrics before Skinner s retrial, but a court again ruled them admissible. Skinner s rap handle was apparently Real Threat; he has a Threat tattoo. At the second trial, a detective testifying for the State read extensively from defendant鈥檚 lyrics to the jury, the Supreme Court wrote in its opinion. The trial transcript of that uninterrupted reading stretches thirteen pages. The material was replete with expletives and included graphic depictions of violence, bloodshed, death, maiming, and dismemberment.

But the court says those lyrics weren't affiliated with the alleged crimes.
Those verses, along with several more pages not reproduced here, plainly depict various crimes and other bad acts, but those crimes and acts were unconnected to the specific facts of the attempted-murder charge against defendant. The State did not attempt to clarify or explain the lyrics in any way, despite their heavy use of slang and otherwise esoteric language. <>..]
Defendant reportedly has composed rap lyrics as a form of self-expression since he was a child. Pochette Louis Vuitton In fact, the record reveals evidence that some of defendant鈥檚 work had been produced in connection with a rap music label. Although it is not clear when each individual verse of the lyrics found in defendant鈥檚 notebooks was written, the State concedes that many of the lyrics found in defendant鈥檚 car and read to the jury were composed long before the circumstances underlying the instant offense took place.
The court ruled 6-0, with one judge abstaining. The court also compared Skinner's lyrics to those of writers a bit more famous.
The difficulty in identifying probative value in fictional or other forms of artistic self-expressive endeavors is that one cannot presume that, simply because an author has chosen to write about certain topics, he or she has acted in accordance with those views. One would not presume that Bob Marley, who wrote the well-known song 鈥淚 Shot the Sheriff,鈥?actually shot a sheriff, or that Edgar Allan Poe buried a Sacs du soir Louis Vuitton man beneath his floorboards, as depicted in his short story 鈥淭he Tell-Tale Heart,鈥?simply because of their respective artistic endeavors on those subjects.
Skinner had been sentenced to 30 years in prison. Read the full opinion of the court below.

175.44.56.210: International Launch Services Reduces Staff By 25%

@@@
, which provides commercial satellite launch services, announced today that it would be laying off about 25% of its workforce, due to anticipated reductions in its launch schedule.
鈥淪taffing at ILS is now at a level that is consistent with our near-term business, which required us to decrease our workforce by roughly 25%. This level of staffing is appropriate for our current backlog and our customers will continue to be well-supported. Previous staffing was consistent with planning for 7-8 launches per year. We are now targeting for 3-4 missions annually,鈥?ILS President Phil Slack said in a statement.
A spokesperson for the company told me that the primary reason Louis Vuitton Neverfull for the reduced launch expectations include increased competition due to smaller spacecraft. The Proton is a heavy lift vehicle and can handle both large payloads and multiple small payloads. However, for small, single payloads, there鈥檚 more competition, and consequently ILS鈥?competitors have received many of those contracts.
ILS, which is a U.S. based company headquartered in Reston, VA., is a subsidiary of the Russian company Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center, and LV Monogram Idylle began its life as a joint venture between , Khrunichev and Energia. Lockheed sold its stake in the company in 2006, and its share was acquired in full by Khrunichev in 2008. The ILS exclusively launches the , which is manufactured by Khrunichev, and has seen 396 successful launches in its lifetime.
The Proton rockets that ILS uses have been under scrutiny since May of 2014, when a by the Russian government resulted in the loss of a satellite. The company has not attempted any launches since this failure (which did not involve ILS).
鈥淭he schedule for the return to flight and subsequent missions will be determined once the Russian State Commission and ILS Failure Review Oversight Board complete their efforts and the required corrective actions have Monogram Multicolore been implemented regarding the Federal Proton Express AM4R mission failure,鈥?a company spokesperson told me.
Once this review is complete, ILS will be able to begin new launches of its current backlog of twelve missions. The company also continues to actively seek new business, according to Slack鈥檚 statement.

175.44.56.210: Rajon Rondo contre Eric Bledsoe. Est

@@@

175.44.56.210: Hospitals say too many newly insured are using emergency rooms for primary care

@@@

More people with health insurance, a shortage of primary-care physicians and a steep learning curve for the newly insured all add up to more patients than ever using emergency rooms for non-emergency purposes.

More than 413,000 Kentuckians are newly enrolled in health care coverage under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, Louis Vuitton Speedy Round and nearly three out of four of those enrolled under the Medicaid expansion, which covers residents earning up to 138 percent of the federal poverty line.

Because many of these newly insured are using the emergency room for non-emergency reasons, emergency rooms are feeling the strain, Don Weber reports for cn|2 s Pure Politics, a service of TimeWarner Cable.

In the past three months, we are seeing about a 12 percent increase per month in our emergency room visits, Sheila Currans, CEO of Harrison Memorial Hospital in Cynthiana, told Weber in a broadcast.

鈥淢any of the patients that come have multiple chronic conditions that have been undeserved, Currans said in the broadcast. Diabetic. Obesity. Vascular disease. And so they come with chronic conditions and they don鈥檛 really have a primary-care physician. And so the ability to get them into a primary-care setting, into specialty-care settings, becomes more difficult without that primary-care person to refer and to kind of coordinate and manage that care.

Currans added, 鈥淧rimary-care physicians have got to lead this transformation in health care, because 鈥?they can take care of the whole patient. We have to reform the payment system so that the primary-care physician can spend 30 minutes with you and/or can spend 15 minutes with you, but can hand you off to a professional within their office that can help educate, continue to educate, re-mediate.鈥?br>

Norton Hospital in Louisville has also seen a 12 percent spike in the number of patients, many for non-emergency reasons, Laura Ungar reported in The Courier-Journal. Weber reports that the 12 percent increase in emergency room visits is pretty consistent with the state average.

This is not a new problem, according to Jill Midkiff, spokeswoman for the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.

鈥淜entuckians suffer poorer health than many other Americans, and have traditionally utilized emergency rooms at a higher rate. This is not a new phenomenon, Midkiff said in an email. She said Kentucky is working on the problem, focusing on so-called super-utilizers who use ERs at least 10 times in a year.

Last summer, Kentucky was one of seven states chosen to participate in the National Governors Association Policy Academy on emergency-room utilization, with particular focus on managing super-utilizers, Midkiff said.

People who have never had insurance often don t know how to use their benefits, which also adds to the number of people using the emergency room instead of seeking a primary care physician, Midkiff said. There is a steep learning curve to navigating the healthcare system and all providers and the insurance companies must help educate the newly insured, she said.

Part of that effort is being handled by the companies that manage the care of Medicaid patients under contracts with the state that reward them when expenses are less than expected.

The Kentucky Health Benefits Exchange, branded as Kynect, is developing some very basic Insurance 101 materials to help educate the newly insured about how to find a primary care physician, when to seek health care services, when to visit the ER, how to use pharmacy benefits, as well as providing a glossary of commonly used insurance terms, Midkiff said. We think this fills a real need and will help consumers more appropriately and efficiently use their health care coverage.

Midkiff said emergency rooms have long been considered the de facto primary care center, with some hospitals even advertising the average wait times on websites and remote-controlled billboards. This provides a confusing message to those who are newly covered, she said. Many hospitals across the country have revised their health-care delivery model to include both emergency services and immediate care to adapt to the increased and changing demand for services.

Many hospitals around the country have done that, and are profiting. Hospital chains and insurers are making more money, more patients using ERs are paying for their care, and the country as a whole is enjoying slower growth in its health-care spending, Alex Wayne and Shannon Pettypiece of Bloomberg News report, on the basis of public filings by hospital chains.
