LAGOS State government has stated that the expanded economic empowerment programme currently going on in the state would have trained 25,000 residents at the end of the second phase currently ongoing across 11 centres within the state.

The union scribe explained that at a meeting held at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity last Wednesday, with the representatives of the union and the Federal Ministry of Education in attendance, it was agreed that the tripartite task force should continue to work to ensure that the outstanding N1.7 billion (which covers all other arrears of promotion and other allowances) with the Budget Office is released.
  
The governor, who said the initial plan was to train 10,000 people in two phases at 20 centres, noted that the increase in the number of people who showed interest and the determination of the government to ensure equal opportunities for all necessitated the increase in number of the training centres.

The meeting further agreed that both parties to the dispute should get the necessary mandate from their principals so that when the tripartite meeting reconvened on Wednesday, October 15 2014, the strike would be reviewed.<br>

Governor Fashola, who was represented by his deputy, Mrs Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, added that since more than 11,000 benefited from the first phase, logistics had been put in place to train additional 14,000 residents in the second phase, adding that by November 7 when the second phase would end, 25,000 residents would have been empowered economically.
