With our huge population, we should be seeing our companies dominating on the African continent; instead, South African companies are the ones reaping from the continent.

Montgomery caught nine passes for 90 yards in his breakout game for the Cyclones, a lot of which came on short passes to the flat. With Montgomery hauling in catches on the side, it allowed the offense to move a bit quicker and open up more of the passing game downfield.

They were playing off coverage on him and it s just easy throwing shorter routes like that, quarterback Sam Richardson said. When they re pressing up like that, running slants and goes, it s going to work for us and it did.
As an economist, I have discovered that the biggest problem we are having is our interest rates, which are so high and this is discouraging investors and business owners from taing risks. That is why we have a lot of one-man businesses stunted by lack of suppot from government or the banks. The average interest rate for lending money in Nigerian banks is 23 per cent, while the banks pay just 12 per cent to fixed depositors. This is inhibiting the growth of businesses in the country. In South Africa, for example, the average interest rate for loaning customers is six per cent. That is why a one man business can take a huge amount of money to support his business. If this happens in Nigeria, all the profit will be spent servicing the interest.

His score against the Rockets came in the fourth quarter on a five-yard catch and run, where he had to fight through several TU defenders. Part of his jersey was even ripped off in the process, but it showed Coach Paul Rhoads something about his preseason All-Big 12 tight end.
The high interest rate is why we have only a number of poorly-run one-man businesses around.

He s a man is what it showed me. That s what I told him when he came off the field, Rhoads said. I wish he wouldn t have let them tear his jersey, it scared the heck out of me. I thought there was a flag down, because it was undoubtedly going to be on us on a play like that. That was a big time run. Tremendous play that everybody got energy off of.

Freshman Allen Lazard proved to be a reliable target for Richardson with eight catches for 96 yards and a touchdown. His touchdown catch came with 3:35 to go in the game with the Cyclones leading 37-23, all but securing the team s first home win this season.
If we want to stamp our authority as the biggest economy in Africa, then we need to support small businesses. Our banks should stop lending only to oil and electricity companies. These are companies that benefit only a few wealthy individuals. Our banks should assist the small scale businesses too, while lowering the interest rate.

There is also the need for government to do more to support small businesses. At the moment, only the oil, electiricty, telecommunication, finance and construction companies are booming in Nigeria , and how many average Nigerians have stakes in these?

AMES It wasn t quite how D Vario Montgomery pictured his season would go, but he hopes his performance in Iowa State s 37-30 win Saturday against Toledo is the start of becoming a weapon for the ISU offense.

I m where I can at least build off it more and more, Montgomery said. Today was one of my good games and it was a confidence builder.

For the second week in a row, senior E.J. Bibbs showed off his skill set catching the ball. He had five receptions for 33 yards and a touchdown after scoring two touchdowns last weekend against Oklahoma State. His score against the Rockets came in the fourth quarter on a five-yard catch and run, where he had to fight through several TU defenders. Part of his jersey was even ripped off in the process, but it showed Coach Paul Rhoads something about his preseason All-Big 12 tight end.
