Willis had an X-ray on his left foot but did not divulge the results, other than to say: 鈥淲e鈥檙e not sure right now.鈥?He left the stadium wearing a supportive brace on his foot, which he also had on while watching the game鈥檚 final minutes from the sideline.

Willis pointed to the Edward Jones Dome鈥檚 artificial turf as the likely culprit for his injury some two minutes before halftime, while he was pursuing a Rams running back. 鈥淚t鈥檚 just the turf, man,鈥?Willis said.

Asked if he sustained a 鈥渢urf toe鈥?sprain 鈥?an injury that鈥檚 kept cornerback Tramaine Brock since the season opener 鈥?Willis responded: 鈥淚鈥檓 not saying, 鈥榊eah.鈥?I know the turf is what it is. We鈥檒l find out more tomorrow and we鈥檒l see.鈥?

Willis replacement, rookie Chris Borland, had not taken a defensive snap prior to this game. He drew praise from coach Jim Harbaugh afterward.

The 49ers defense has started this season strong despite the absences of several key players: Aldon Smith (suspension), NaVorro Bowman (knee surgery) and Glenn Dorsey (biceps surgery). Brock has yet to return to practice but did individual conditioning drills last week on a side field.

Willis鈥?was the first of four players to get knocked out of the game with injuries.

In the third quarter, the 49ers lost rookie nickel back Jimmie Ward to a right quadriceps injury and left guard Mike Iupati to a concussion. Wide receiver Stevie Johnson believes he sustained a bruised right hip when hit upon recovering an onside kick with 2:24 remaining.

General manager Trent Baalke said there is no truth to a NFL Network report Monday that聽the 49ers approached Frank Gore in the offseason and told him his roster spot was in jeopardy.
+

+
Gore, the 49ers鈥?all-time leading rusher, is earning close to $6 million in the final year of his contract. Baalke was incredulous at the notion the 49ers wouldn鈥檛 have brought Gore back for this season, his 10th.
+

+
The 49ers are not currently negotiating a possible extension with Gore, Baalke said, adding that any such deal wouldn鈥檛 happen until after the season. Gore had 16 carries for 38 yards, his second-lowest total this season behind a six-carry, 10-yard outing at Arizona.
+

+
Gore entered Monday night鈥檚 game at St. Louis as the NFL鈥檚 11th-leading rusher (365 yards), and he was coming off his consecutive 100-yard rushing games for the first time since 2011. He鈥檚 finished in the top 10 each year since Jim Harbaugh arrived as coach in 2011.

+
Rookie cornerback Dontae Johnson, who came on in relief of Ward, credited his defensive teammates for his first career interception and ensuing 20-yard return for a win-clinching touchdown.
+

+
鈥淭he guys had their receivers covered up in the back, and our front had tremendous pressure,鈥?Johnson said. 鈥淭he pick-six is for all the defense.鈥?
+
Johnson said he merely was playing his assignment when he jumped a route and snagged Austin Davis鈥?pass with 53 seconds remaining. It was his first touchdown since high school, when he scored on offense.
+

+
Tight end Vernon Davis had three catches for 30 yards in his return from a back injury that kept him out the past past 1 陆 games. Davis also had two drops and a false-start penalty.
+

The 49ers improved to 13-1 in October under Jim Harbaugh, with eight straight wins dating back to an Oct. 14, 2012 loss to the New York Giants at Candlestick Park (26-3).

Jonathan Martin drew the start at right tackle as Anthony Davis (knee, leg) missed his fifth game this season.

Johnson said his right hip went into spasms after it was hit by a Rams鈥?knee on the onside kick. 鈥淚t鈥檚 going to bruise up, but I鈥檒l be good,鈥?Johnson said. 鈥淚 couldn鈥檛 get up at first. It was聽聽football play, a bang-bang play.鈥?
+
Johnson had five catches for 53 yards, including a reception on a slant route that drew Harbaugh鈥檚 admiration afterward.

Also inactive for the 49ers were defensive tackles Tank Carradine and Quinton Dial, center Marcus Martin, wide receiver Quinton Patton and safety L.J. McCray (for the first time this season).

Bubba Ventrone and Kassim Osgood, who both re-signed this week, suited up and contribute mainly on special teams.

Greg Robinson, this year鈥檚 No. 2 overall draft pick, made his starting debut at left guard for the Rams, who moved Rodger Saffold to right guard and Davin Joseph to the bench.
Related Articles:

Celine Bags

Buy Celine Bags

Celine UK Outlet

Chris Brown said the Ebola outbreak in Africa may be a population control measure.
