It is the responsibility of all. For instance, I am back to contribute my quota by contesting the governorship position of my state, Ogun. That way, I can use my available resources and then government influence to bring succour to the people but Nigerians need to realize that entrepreneurship is the future. If start-up capital is a problem for our able masses, government can assist via provision of start-up capital even if it is on a small scale. Also, the organization of workshops, vocational trainings, among others would fast track development in every sector of the economy. Nigerians have learnt to become independent and provide for most of their basic needs themselves. Those who have succeeded in business need to look back and help others grow.

Well, yes and the people are frustrated. This hampers economic growth. Take education for instance, why should people pay so much? Why would a government reduce school fees and increase salaries when it is election time? Why can鈥檛 basic healthcare be free? Why are our power sector killing businesses as most depend on alternative sources of power? Our politicians and the rich can travel abroad at anytime with their families to get good healthcare and that is why they can neglect the millions who can鈥檛.

The poll was conducted shortly after the Clacton and 'Heywood and Middleton' by-elections last Thursday (in the period from 10th - 12th October), which saw , who defected to UKIP from the Conservatives, return to parliament with a handsome majority.

Additionally, in Heywood and Middleton, the Labour party won, but UKIP came a close second with 617 votes separating the candidates.

The Populus poll places the two main parties on a level setting. Whether or not this means that the Conservatives can win in  is yet to be seen, but considering that the same company gave Labour a six point lead in a poll conducted online between the 3rd and 5th of October, it is arguable that the Conservatives are gaining ground.

+
The Populus poll also gave UKIP 13%, the Lib Dems 9% and 3% for the Greens

Furthermore, another one of their polls, conducted between the 8th and 9th of October, also gave Labour a small lead of one, suggesting that this could be the start of a neck and neck trend.

The Conservatives made the news last week for coming first in a poll for the first time since 2012, when the so-called omnishambles budget was introduced by George Osbourne. The  poll placed  s party on 35%, just ahead of the Labour party on 34%.

It appears that there is evidence to suggest that the tradition of the polls narrowing in the run up to a general  is occurring this time. However, with the new UKIP effect , the increased support of the Greens, the falling support for the Liberal Democrats, the increased support for the SNP in Scotland, and numerous other factors, the general election of 2015 looks far more uncertain than that of 2010.

+
In other news, as May 2015 nears, the BBC, Channel 4, ITV and Sky have announced plans for three television debates. One would include only  and David Cameron, an opportunity for viewers to see the two candidates go head-to-head. One would also include Nick Clegg, and one would include both Nick Clegg and , as well as the main two party leaders. The Greens, the SNP and Plaid Cymru have criticised the idea.

+
Additionally, Douglas Carswell has entered parliament for the first time under a UKIP banner.
+

+
Overall, it seems as if the polls are beginning to narrow and that 2015 could be a very close race. But as previously stated so many new factors are making this general election more unpredictable than ever. The Conservatives could have gained new found success or this could be a blip. Either way, what's becoming clear is that a hung parliament is more than likely.

Prince Rotimi Paseda is a successful businessman with business interests abroad one of which is an engineering company that specialise in fabrication of heavy machinery. He was in Nigeria recently and spoke to Rotimi Ige about how entrepreneurship and the creation of jobs will save millions of the nation鈥檚 youths.

Tell us about your businesses

To the glory of God, I am a successful businessman and a partner in engineering firm that is into the fabrication and building of heavy machinery; we manufacture water tankers, fire engines, various environmental services equipments designed and built to specification and they are doing very well. And you should know that it wasn鈥檛 easy having successful business interest abroad.

But the determination to succeed against so many odds encouraged me to forge ahead. And if I succeeded out there, I also feel I should also be responsible to my people at home by contributing my quota to the development of my home state and country and We have many many successful businessmen like me in the Diaspora and we must encourage them to come back home to do the same however slow, one step at a time if necessary.

That is why I am an advocate of job creation for millions of Nigerians who need a means of survival. We have the manpower, so it鈥檚 quite disheartening to realise that we are yet to unleash the potentials of our zealous youthful generation.

What do you think needs to be done? Is it for the government to create jobs or what?

So, you are saying our government has failed?

Well, yes and the people are frustrated. This hampers economic growth. Take education for instance, why should people pay so much? Why would a government reduce school fees and increase salaries when it is election time? Why can鈥檛 basic healthcare be free? Why are our power sector killing businesses as most depend on alternative sources of power? Our politicians and the rich can travel abroad at anytime with their families to get good healthcare and that is why they can neglect the millions who can鈥檛.

Our people must begin to demand for their rights from the political office holders. For instance, if our political office holders have children in Nigerian universities, there wouldn鈥檛 be so many strikes or if they were stuck in traffic in an ambulance on their way to the hospital, they would know what to do.

When people pay through their noses for something that should be ordinarily subsidised by their government, forging successful entrepreneurs would become more tasking.

So, the solutions are not so vague if our people would choose to do the right thing. More businesses will thrive under right conditions and more people will contribute economically to the GDP. We have the people, we have the resources. We only require the right mindset.
