The well- endowed senator cut her teeth in politics at the University of Calabar, as she was actively involved in students unionism. She got a BA (Hons) in English and Literary Studies in 1998 and an MSc in Political Science and International Relations in 2003. She has a doctoral degree in Public Administration from Indiana State University, USA. Before entering the Senate, Grace Folashade Bent was political adviser to the then PDP National Chairman, Audu Ogbeh and Assistant Producer in the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Kaduna. After election in 2007, Grace became the Chair of the Senate Committee on Environment.
