All American Rejects' great performance is Musikfest's 'Dirty Little Secret'The All-American Rejects performed Saturday night at Sands Steel Stage (CHRIS KNIGHT, SPECIAL TO )August 03, 2014|By Taylor Farnsworth, Of The Morning CallAt the All American Rejects concert at Musikfest's Steel Stage on Saturday, it was clear the band knows where its success lies.It began with "Dirty Little Secret," a 2005 song that's one of the band's best known. With a handful of hits to its name, relevance to the Top-40 crowd dwindling and no big hits since "Gives You Hell" in 2008, the band still Yayoi Kusama Louis Vuitton Soldes knew how to please a crowd. As the festival's first national headlining act of 2014 after ZZ Top's opening-night cancellation, the Rejects drew just 2,477 people a number that was boosted by a lot of recent ticket giveaways, but still will be Musikfest's lowest this year. But that didn't hurt the quality of the show. Instead, with a lively performance, All American Rejects may just be the "Dirty Little Secret" of this year's Musikfest.Lead singer Tyson Ritter's stage presence was electric giving it his all and proving that at age 30 and a dozen years after starting All American Rejects, he's still got it.Throughout the set, Ritter teased the crowd, mixing hits with lesser-known tracks. As he did, he made sure to make comments to the audience about knowing what songs they really wanted to hear.As a band that achieved most of its success a decade ago, the Rejects are clearly aware that most of the crowd was there for the band's hit singles. Despite that, they managed to give a balanced performance, with some of the deeper cuts proving to be as much standouts as the hits."My Paper Heart" from the Rejects' first album was among the earlier tracks that seemed to seamlessly transition from recording to a live setting. The band continued its set with songs such as the "Beekeeper's Daughter" from its latest album, 2012's "Kid in the Street," "Walk Over Me" and "Stab My Back" before returning to hits with "Swing Swing."The crowd's energy was apparent on that last song, with much of the audience Sac port锟斤拷 锟斤拷paule singing along.Ritter was charming even when singing darker songs, making "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" jokes and commenting about scooping up dead goldfish back home. With a little bit of banter about a high-school-aged Ritter forming the band, the group transitioned to an acoustic number with "Mona Lisa," one of the sweeter, standout songs of the night. The band continued with "One More Sad Song" and "It Ends Tonight." Both tracks are more solemn in their messages, but showed that Ritter doesn't always need to be dancing around the stage to keep your attention. The band then finished its 14-song set with "Move Along," before returning for a two-song encore with the title track from "Kids in the Street," then "Gives You Hell."On that last song, the crowd went crazy, jumping up and down, full of energy, proving the All American Rejects still have it.With a set of songs that are an ode to love and relationships whether telling an ex that you hope your face gives them hell, or falling apart over a breakup the band brought a bit of angst to the stage.Even if you're experiencing none of these things, the band's stage presence and Ritter's electric personality showed the All American Rejects isn't a band to be forgotten. Maybe just kept a dirty little secret.MORE MUSIKFEST ONLINE Schedule of events Photo galleries Concert reviews Performer interviewshttp://www.mcall.com/musikfestFeatured ArticlesMore:Related Articles
November 29, 2012
July 9, 2010
April 28, 2005
September 13, 2012
October 22, 2005Find More Stories About|||Please note the green-lined linked article Sac port锟斤拷 main text has been applied commercially without any involvement from our newsroom editors, reporters or any other editorial staff.
