For the Friday Oklahoman, I wrote about OSU reaching the upper echelons of college football, even in rebuilding seasons. You can read that column . The Cowboys on Thursday talked a lot about the concept of rebuilding.

They did. Loud and clear.
Mike Gundy: 鈥淓ach year we find out where we鈥檙e at. This is the most difficult year we鈥檝e had in terms of returning players. Only 29, 28 guys that have factored in that we know have played at this level. We have good, young players in the program. Just not every experienced.鈥?

Jordan Zimmermann pitched eight strong innings, Asdrubal Cabrera homered and the Nationals kept up their dominance of two-time Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum with a 6-2 win Saturday.
Gundy on other rebuilding seasons: 鈥淲e were a more experienced team. We had guys coming back that had played. The players that are competing now, two years <a href=http://www.isogea.com/isonord.php> true religion cheap</a>  from now, could very well be more talented than what we were&nbsp; there. I think there鈥檚 some really talented players on this team, just don鈥檛 have experience. We think we know how certain guys will play. We think youth will play a factor. But we don鈥檛 know for sure. Joe Randle played better than we ever thought as a true freshman. TV didn鈥檛 bother, crowds didn鈥檛 bother him, heat didn鈥檛 bother him. He had a high tolerance of pain.鈥?

Jayson Werth added a pair of <a href=http://www.parajumpersjackenoutlet.de>long bear parajumpers</a>  RBI singles and Span had a triple and single for the NL East-leading Nationals, one night after San Francisco trounced them 10-3.
Kevin Peterson: 鈥淚 feel like there鈥檚 not really a rebuilding. It would only be rebuilding if you lost all your guys and everybody鈥檚 a freshman and nobody鈥檚 played before. But we鈥檝e got guys coming back that鈥檚 played multiple <a href=http://www.alportico.net/prodotti/christianlouboutin-sale.jkmsw.php>Christian Louboutin</a>  games. Like J.W. (Walsh), Ryan Simmons, Jimmy Bean, James Castleman. We have guys that have been able to play. I don鈥檛 think it鈥檚 rebuilding. I think it鈥檚 more acclimating the young guys to be able to play on that type of stage.鈥?

鈥淟ast night they score 10 runs, they kind of put a dagger in us a little bit,鈥?Span said. 鈥淭he first inning they were swinging away again. For us to respond, and come out and get a win is definitely good for us.鈥?
Ryan Simmons: 鈥淐oach (Glenn) Spencer has expectations for us. We know what the expectations are. We just have to go about our business, know this is what we have, this is what we have to work with. Regardless of what happens with any other team, we have to do our job, do whatever it takes for us to win games.鈥?

Zimmermann (9-5) got off to a shaky start when Angel Pagan led off with a double and Hunter Pence followed with a home run on a pitch well out of the strike zone.
James <a href=http://www.avanttravel.com/michaelkorssonline.php>Michael Kors uk</a>  Castleman on rebuilding: 鈥淚 don鈥檛 give in on that. For some cases, it can be natural to expect a falloff. But the way we鈥檝e been pushing our young guys, helping them attack, push forward through all this stuff, it shows their work ethic is just as high as the veterans and just as high as the people who have been here. It shows they鈥檙e willing to do what they have to do to help out the team.鈥?

鈥淭here鈥檚 only one guy in the game that鈥檚 going to hit that pitch and it鈥檚 him,鈥?Zimmermann said. 鈥淚 threw it right where I wanted, 0-2 and up by his shoulders. Beats me how he hit it that far.鈥?

Zimmermann quickly recovered and allowed seven hits overall, striking out eight without a walk.

鈥淲e scored some runs early and I was able to settle in and not have the pressure of a one-run game,鈥?he said.

Lincecum (10-9) was seeking his 100th career win, but turned in the second-shortest start of his career. He gave up six runs, four of them earned, on six hits and four walks in 2 2-3 innings.

In his last seven starts against Washington, he鈥檚 0-6 and has permitted 34 earned runs in 32 2-3 innings. Lincecum has failed to pitch at least five innings in four of his last six starts overall, going 1-3 with a 9.49 ERA.
