SAN DIEGO After all of the talk, projections, and injuries聽of the preseason, the聽San Diego Chargers season has officially arrived with an intriguing game against the Arizona Cardinals.
+
MILWAUKEE (WITI) Bill Scholl, director of intercollegiate athletics at Ball State University, will serve as Marquette University鈥檚 next vice president and director of athletics, President Michael R. Lovell announced on Tuesday, September 9th.
Although this is just a Week 1 matchup, primetime Monday Night Football is always something special.
+
Scholl has more than two decades of athletics administration experience and oversaw 19 NCAA Division I athletic programs at Ball State. He will begin at Marquette mid-October.
Well, I think (the players) are anxiously waiting Monday night, head coach said at practice Friday. You know, we ve had a great training camp, good offseason program and everything.

Scholl, who will report directly to President Lovell, takes over an athletic department with new leaders directing its signature programs, men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 basketball. Steve Wojciechowski was named the head coach of the men鈥檚 Cheap Men True Religion Jeans basketball program on April 1, and Carolyn Kieger was named the head women鈥檚 basketball coach a month later. 鈥淏ill鈥檚 experience is the perfect complement to our young and energetic head coaches,鈥?President Lovell said.
All the hard work that the players and coaches and the whole entire organization have put in to get to this point in time. So now you know it s time to go play a game. 聽

Past successes and service
The Cardinals are coming off a 10-6 2013 season, but failed to reach the NFC Playoffs. Meanwhile, the Chargers are coming off another postseason disappointment at the hands of Cheap Gucci Belts 聽hated rival Denver Broncos.
+
Scholl has led the Ball State Cardinals since 2012, during which eight programs have reached the postseason and 13 teams placed either first or second in the Mid-American Conference. Ball State has boasted four All-Americans in each of his two years and the Cardinals placed 54 student-athletes on all-conference teams in 2013-14, a 14.9-percent increase over Scholl鈥檚 first year and a 54.3-percent increase over the year before his arrival.
In many ways, though, these two teams share a great number of similarities.
+
In his time at Ball State, he also served as chairperson of the Mid-American Conference鈥檚 basketball issues working group and was a member of the conference鈥檚 finance committee. He oversaw a number of on-campus facility upgrades including the renovation of baseball and softball stadiums and the groundbreaking for a new football facility for team meetings and office space.
Both have veteran quarterbacks who are established, successful聽players in the NFL. 聽Both have incredible offensive arsenals at their disposal and 聽have defenses that聽can make big plays.
+
Under Scholl鈥檚 leadership at Ball State, student-athletes also saw success in True Religion Sweat Suit the classroom, with 14 teams scoring better than the national Division I average in the NCAA鈥檚 Academic Progress Report baseline. The men鈥檚 basketball team climbed in its academic standing steadily, posting a 2013 score that is 20 points higher than the national average.
While it s not a secret that the Cardinals had the number one rush defense last season, only conceding 84.4 yards per game, the loss of will prove costly. Especially against the dynamic rushing attack San Diego possesses.
+
Prior to his term at Ball State, Scholl served 23 years at Notre Dame, where he finished as deputy athletics director. He was responsible for administration of men鈥檚 basketball, football, baseball and men鈥檚 soccer, as well as fundraising and donor relations, budgeting and growing external revenue. Scholl collaborated with the university鈥檚 advancement office to lead the athletics department in an $84 million athletics fundraising initiative for the Spirit of Notre Dame campaign.
And although Arizona possesses one of the better secondaries in the league, they are going to have their hands full. The running game is always a key for the Chargers in any game, but this season is where their passing game can take that next step.
+
Early in his career, Scholl held leadership positions in service-driven organizations. He was the former director of financial Www Kate Spade Com development for the 1987 International Summer Special Olympic Games. He served in the same position for one year at South Bend鈥檚 Logan Center, which offers services to persons with developmental disabilities. While working for Special Olympics, he raised in excess of $8 million for the 1987 games.
With two veterans in and ,聽and two upcoming stars in and Ray Ban Sunglasses Sale this offense on paper should be in the top-5 in 2014. No matter what coverage聽Arizona has on the field, one of these offensive weapons聽will create enough space for to work effectively down the field.
+
Scholl earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree in American studies in 1979 from Notre Dame. He and his wife, Julie, have three children: Michael (a 2009 Notre Dame graduate), Stefanie (a 2012 Ball State graduate) and Kelly (a 2014 Notre Dame graduate).
The question for San Diego is its defense. It does not have the depth it needs to be dominant. While a healthy and will True Religion Sweat Pants complement a solid defense line, the secondary still needs to validate its promise.
+

The addition of Pro Bowl cornerback , along with their first-round draft pick Jason Verrett will upgrade their dismal 29th-ranked pass defense from last year. That being said, both players are still adapting to the system. Considering they will line up聽against and , they may have a tough time.聽
+
In the end, however, San Diego has too many great offensive weapons. Also with the likelihood of starting Cardinals running back not playing will help the Chargers take the season opener, 31-21.
