Why did it take so long before the correct action was taken? Because a videotape emerged on TMZ Monday morning that showed Rice punching his fianc茅e (now wife) gucci outlet in the face on an elevator at an Atlantic City casino.聽 There was no more spin or denial or misdirecting to do.
+
It鈥檚 a good thing that Rice is gone. But why did it take a videotape of what we already knew happened in the elevator for the appropriate action? It was shocking, horrifying to watch. But we already had all the evidence that he knocked his fianc茅e out and then dragged her down the hall.
+
And believe me, he did not look like a man hitting a woman for the first time. In addition to be removed from his workplace, he should be incarcerated and not be allowed to live with his children.聽 Men who beat women usually beat their children as well.
+
But he鈥檚 already been dealt with legally. Slap on the wrist in the form of a rehabilitation program that expunged the charge from his record.
+
His case has been a failure on so many levels: the judiciary system, the Baltimore Ravens and the NFL all failed to act appropriately in this case.
+
Roger Goodell should follow Rice out the door 鈥?his leadership has no integrity and no longer can be trusted by the public.聽 He should resign.聽 His league either had seen that videotape or chose not to pursue uncovering it. 聽(Late Monday came a report that the NFL had seen the video, which was what was originally reported by Sports Illustrated shortly after the incident). Meanwhile, Greg Hardy continues to play for Carolina after being found guilty of two counts of assault on a former girlfriend. He鈥檚 appealing. The NFL, however, is super upset about his face paint on game day.
+
This is what victims of domestic violence face, especially when they have a famous abuser.聽聽 It鈥檚 difficult to get a conviction or charges filed under any circumstances. But the Rice standard seems to be that the abuse must be on videotape and released by TMZ before action is taken?
+
Due process, the term tossed around by the 49ers incessantly since their own player Ray McDonald was arrest, failed Jenay Palmer badly. 聽聽It took six months and a leaked video before anything happened. 聽And don鈥檛 try to blame the victim, like so many have. gucci outlet Yes she sat by him and married him after. But a crime is a crime.
+
The Rice case is relevant to the 49ers current situation for true religion outlet several reasons. The Ravens protected and coddled Rice. They had their own internal 鈥渋nvestigation.鈥?They tacitly blamed the victim, insinuating she provoked him, the same kind of charges being whispered around the 49ers right now.
+
John and Jim Harbaugh were raised in the same house, with the same standards, and likely have the same ability to parse what they consider to be 鈥渄ue process鈥?and 鈥渘o tolerance.鈥?
+
鈥淲e鈥檝e been very clear on how we鈥檙e approaching the situation, what facts and information will determine the principles,鈥?Harbaugh said at his weekly press conference Monday afternoon.
+
On Monday the San Jose Police Department says it won鈥檛 release the police report or the 911 tape from the McDonald arrest. The information is public record (The Chronicle has filed a public information request). It appears that McDonald is getting every benefit of the doubt as well. Most of the witnesses were his teammates. The whisper campaign is underway. Maybe there won鈥檛 ever be any charges filed. We may never know what happened that night. But the legal and judicial systems have failed plenty of victims before.
+
The wheels of justice in domestic violence cases grind awfully slowly. If they grind at all.
