@@@ Lenz, a junior Gucci Twirl Watch from Giessen, Germany, will start the season atop the Intercollegiate Tennis Association鈥檚 .

鈥淚t鈥檚 of course something really special because there are just a few people that can say they were No. 1 in college at some point,鈥?Lenz said. 鈥淥f course it matters which part of the season you鈥檙e No. 1. If it鈥檚 the preseason rankings, it鈥檚 not as big of a deal as if you鈥檙e there at the end, but it鈥檚 still good motivation to stay hungry to show everybody that you really are No. 1 and that nobody in the country can beat you.鈥?
Lenz was named the ITA National Player to Watch after a sophomore season in which he was 35-8 with a 24-4 mark. He was 15-3 at the No. 1 spot and finished the season with a No. 4 ranking.
鈥淗e鈥檚 progressed in a nice fashion,鈥?Baylor coach Matt Knoll said. 鈥淗is freshman year he was ranked, like, No. 50, and to go from there at the end of his freshman year to being here his junior year is a nice progression. He came to Baylor because he thought he could improve here, and he is improving. Certainly his best tennis is out in front of him, but I think this will motivate him and keep him working hard.鈥?
He becomes the first Bear ever to gain the preseason No. 1 ranking and the first to be ranked at the top spot at any time during the year since Lars Poerschke was there to open the spring season Jan. 16, 2006.
The only other player in Baylor Gucci Sale Online history to be ranked No. 1 was Benedikt Dorsch, who achieved the feat in three straight seasons from 2003-05, winning the NCAA singles championship in his final season. Dorsch鈥檚 teammate Benjamin Becker never earned the No. 1 ranking, but won the NCAA singles title in 2004.
The No. 1 ranking puts Lenz in select company alongside Poerschke, Dorsch and Becker, all of whom hail from Germany.
鈥淚 know all the players who played for Baylor, especially the German guys like Dorsch, Becker and Poerschke,鈥?Lenz said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 cool to extend the tradition of having Germany at Baylor and being No. 1. It鈥檚 a good thing.鈥?
Lenz was joined Gucci Sale Online in the rankings by Diego Galeano at No. 26 and Tony Lupieri at No. 112. The Baylor women鈥檚 team has four ranked singles players in No. 37 Kiah Generette, No. 55 Ema Burgic, No. 78 Blair Shankle and No. 117 Rachel James-Baker, a transfer from North Carolina State. Burgic and Shankle are No. 37 in doubles.
