@@@ Soul singer Brian Owens, who has performed tributes to Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Donny Hathaway as part of his Master Series, adds Johnny Cash to the list with his show Thursday night at the Sheldon Concert Hall. Here are his favorite Cash songs.鈥?鈥淕et Rhythm鈥濃€淵ou will hear me say this over and over about Johnny Cash tunes but I love the story in this song. I love Cash鈥檚 ability to paint very simple yet vivid pictures with the lyrics. I also very much appreciate the message of this song. I mean, he takes an encounter with a shoe shine boy and turns it into a commentary on true happiness and contentment in the face of tough realities. My favorite line is, 鈥業t only costs a dime, just a nickel a shoe/Does a million dollars worth of good for you/Get rhythm when you get the blues.鈥?鈥濃€?鈥淲alk the Line鈥濃€淏ecause you鈥檙e mine, I walk the line.鈥?-- CashAs a man a faith, there are two persons Celine Handbags Outlet in my life that I can apply this lyric to; My wife and my Christ. Having motivation to pursue what is right is a necessity for me in an industry that can very easily mislead you. I can definitely attest to keeping a close watch on this heart of mine in an effort to be the man I鈥檓 called to be.鈥濃€?鈥淛ackson鈥?We got married in a fever, hotter than a pepper sprout. We been talking bout Jackson, ever since the fire went out.鈥?-- Cash鈥淚鈥檒l be sharing the stage with Erin Bode on this Johnny and June classic. I love the way in which they playfully interact with one another even though the song is about two lovers who are on the outs! Celine Bags New Arrivals I hope that we can capture even a little bit of the chemistry they had.鈥濃€?鈥淢an in Black鈥濃€淚 think this song shows off Cash鈥檚 lyrical genius and consciousness as bout as good as any of his compositions. Again, the imagery that he uses is wonderfully vivid and allows you to not only hear but also see what it is he鈥檚 singing about. I think my favorite line is, 鈥業 wear it for the prisoner who has long paid for his crime, But is there because he's a victim of the times.鈥?Such timeless commentary.鈥?鈥淕reystone Chapel鈥濃€淎 great song with a great story. Cash didn鈥檛 write this one but instead it was composed by an inmate at Folsom Prison named Glen Sherley. This cat was super talented and when Cash recorded the Celine Trapeze Bags Live at Folsom Prison album in 1968, he and the band surprised Sherley, by playing his song. Cash would later help Sherley obtain a parole and a music career. The story doesn鈥檛 exactly end well with Shirley committing suicide as he found himself unable to deal with the reality of freedom beyond the walls of Folsom. But, the song is a great testimony of faiths ability to unlock the chains of the mind even when the body may be imprisoned. 鈥業nside the walls of a prison, my body may be. But my Lord has set my soul free.鈥橞rian Owens Performing the Music of Johnny CashWhen 7:30 p.m. Thursday 鈥?Where The Sheldon Concert Hall 鈥?How much $15-$50 (all proceeds benefit the Little Bit Foundation) 鈥?More info MetroTix
