@@@ Enterovirus D-68 has been confirmed in many of the children hospitalized for respiratory illness in Chicago and Kansas City, Missouri, where outbreaks started last month.
Ten states, including Oklahoma, have asked the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Gucci Purses Prevention to help investigate suspected outbreaks. The culprit is a rare and powerful strain of a common family of viruses. Enteroviruses are common in summer and can cause respiratory illness, fever, runny noses and rashes, but symptoms are usually mild or unnoticeable, according to the CDC. What is unusual about this strain is how many sufferers have ended up in the hospital, said Chris Van Deusen, spokesman for the Texas Department of State Health Services. 鈥淏ecause it is less common, there鈥檚 less research and less information,鈥?he said. Enterovirus is such a common ailment that it is not typically reported to state or federal authorities. More than 475 children were hospitalized with suspected enterovirus late last month at Children鈥檚 Mercy Gucci Sunglasses Men Hospital in Kansas City. A CDC sample of 22 specimens from the hospital came up with 19 positive for enterovirus D68. Thirteen of those had previous histories of asthma or respiratory illness. Kelly Craine, spokeswoman for the Waco-McLennan County Public Health District, said the district stays in contact with physicians, hospitals and school nurses about infectious diseases but has seen no indication of enterovirus or other flulike illnesses in circulation during the past two weeks. Still, she said local health officials are watching the enterovirus outbreak in other states. 鈥淎ny time you have children or high-risk people presenting with those kinds of symptoms, it鈥檚 always a concern and always something we want to know about,鈥?she said. Scott Clark, spokesman for Baylor Scott White, said the health Gucci Handbags Outlet care system hasn鈥檛 seen any indications of an outbreak in its Central Texas facilities, including Baylor Scott White Hillcrest Medical Center in Waco.
