As the strike called by the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) in the Federal Ministry of Education and Unity Schools enters its third week, the union said it will not suspend its industrial action until its demands are meant.

It insisted that payment of the promotion arrears must be made to members in the Federal Ministry of Education headquarters, the inspectorate offices, and the 104 federal unity colleges.
In a statement issued by its Secretary-General, Alade Lawal, the union enjoined members in the affected institutions to remain firm and obey the strike order until directed otherwise.
It noted that the tripartite task force set up by Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity in respect of the strike has recorded some positive results.
We can confirm that the sum of N527,643,440.00 (Five hundred and twenty-seven million, six hundred and forty-three thousand, four hundred and forty-four Naira) has been released by the Budget Office to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for onward transmission  to the Federal Ministry of Education to kickstart the payment of the first batch of promotion arrears.
We are hopeful that the money will start dropping into the personal accounts of members of the union at the headquarters of the ministry, the inspectorate offices, and the 104 Federal Unity Colleges beginning from Friday, the statement added.
The union scribe explained that at a meeting held at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity last Wednesday, with the representatives of the union and the Federal Ministry of Education in attendance, it was agreed that the tripartite task force should continue to work to ensure that the outstanding N1.7 billion (which covers all other arrears of promotion and other allowances) with the Budget Office is released.
The meeting further agreed that both parties to the dispute should get the necessary mandate from their principals so that when the tripartite meeting reconvened on Wednesday, October 15 2014, the strike would be reviewed.
He commended the heroic actions of members in the affected institutions for standing firm while complying with the strike directive.
