It is downright scary how much is going on in South Mississippi this week. Something is sure to be of interest -- for the film buffs to the lovers of horror flicks, tattoos, mullets, history and fair-and-family fun. Among the highlights: n Sun & Sand: The Mississippi Film & Music Festival will open Thursday and run through Oct. 26, featuring celebrities such as Burt Reynolds and Gerald McRaney and a variety of films and documentaries. This year's festival will be held mostly at Cinemark in Gulfport, with a special, invitation-only screening of "Category 5" at Keesler Air Force Base. Daily tickets are $10 each ($7 seniors and military, $5 children) or per block, and a festival pass for all films is $50 ($25 seniors, military and children). Tickets will be available at Cinemark. n If you dare, the Fear Fete horror film festival and horror convention will entertain fans Thursday through Sunday at the Mississippi Coast Convention Center in Biloix. The event kicks off Thursday with a Dead Carpet Gala featuring celebrity guests, filmmakers and actors. Afterward, VIP Pass holders will be invited to a reception. For the festival, attendees are encouraged to dress as their favorite horror or fantasy characters. Tickets/details: www.fearfete.com. n The Fourth annual Inktoberfest Tattoo Convention will open Friday at noon and 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi. See hundreds of tattooists at work and enjoy entertainment, music, freak shows, unique vendors and tattoo contest. Presented by Adrenaline Tattoo. Details/tickets: 206-0310. n The 28th annual Fall Muster will open at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at Beauvoir, 2244 Beach Blvd., Biloxi. Re-enactors will bring to life the sights, sounds and atmosphere of the Civil War. Cost: $12.50 adults, $10 AAA, military and seniors, $7.50 ages 6-18, free for ages 6 and younger. Details: 388-4400. n The 24th annual Gautier Mullet and Music Festival gets going from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday in downtown Gautier on Dolphin Drive between Lowe's and the Singing River Mall site. Check out good food, hand-crafted items, children's activities, entertainment and a car show Saturday and motorcycle show Sunday. Details: 215-0828.

n The 93rd annual Jackson County Fair opens at 4 p.m. Sunday and runs through Oct. 26 at the fairgrounds, 2902 Shortcut Road, Pascagoula. Family fun includes rides, livestock shows, arts and crafts, food booths, exhibits, live music and more. Details: 762-6043 or 217-1667.
