@@@ The Chicago Blackhawks were among the best teams in the NHL this past season, finishing fifth in the Western Conference and third in their division.  The Hawks also went all the way to the third round of the playoffs. Chicago lost the seven game series 4-3 to the Stanley Cup winners, the Los Angeles Kings.
Yesterday, the Blackhawks made a huge statement to their opponents by signing captain, Jonathan Towes and Patrick Kane to eight-year contract extensions.  Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Although both players were not in the top five in the league in goals, assists, points, Towes and Kane did put up good numbers this past season.
Towes scored 28 goals, had 40 for a total of 68 points in 76 regular season games.  Towes scored nine goals, had eight assists for a total of 17 points during the playoffs.
As for Kane, he scored 29 goals had 40 assists for a total of 69 points in 69 regular season games,  Kane also scored eight goals, and had 20 assists during the playoffs.

What does this mean to the rest of the league?  Well, it means there s a possibility that Chicago is going to go deeper into the playoffs in 2015.  It is also a possibility that Chicago is going to win their third Stanley Cup in five years.
