@@@ When asked if he would make that throw again, Carr didn鈥檛 hesistate. 鈥淎bsolutely,鈥?he said. 鈥淚 trust Brice more than anything. I鈥檇 throw it 100 times.鈥? What had been a loud, emotional first game at the Coliseum for interim head coach became eerily quiet. He is 0-1, the Raiders are 0-5 and they have lost 11 straight games dating to last season. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 the best team in the league 鈥?and our kids played really hard,鈥?Sparano said. 鈥淲e need to be in these kind of football games and finally win these kind of games. That鈥檚 how we turn this thing around.鈥? Offensive coordinator told excited players during the bye week that the Raiders were going to finally open up their offense. Besides Carr flinging the ball, running back looked as if he had found a time machine and had gone back to 2007. The Raiders might, however, have kept things open too long. In the 36 seconds before the interception, the Raiders had gained 35 yards 鈥?but there were two defenders near Butler on the fateful play, on which Carr thought his pump-fake had frozen the safety enough to go for the jugular. 鈥淲e鈥檙e looking for one-on-ones at all times,鈥?Carr said. 鈥淵ou have to give that guy the credit on that play because he made a phenomenal catch.鈥? Verrett, a rookie from Fairfield, did a nice job of getting both feet in bounds after the interception. 鈥淲e hit them on a couple of (double-moves) earlier in the game, so I guess (Verrett) was waiting for it and he just sat back,鈥?Butler said. 鈥淚 went up for it and I had it in my left hand and his momentum just took the ball. It was just a good play by number 22.鈥? The truth is, the Raiders鈥?previous possession was equally a factor in the loss. After the Chargers had closed to 28-24 with 5:56 left, the Raiders held the ball for all of 53 seconds, losing 11 yards, before punting as they didn鈥檛 trust a run game that had its best day of the season. McFadden ran for 2 yards on first down, and then a screen play blew up to the point that Oakland was lucky the pass was incomplete and not intercepted. On 3rd-and-8, Carr threw the ball away and was called for intentional grounding. 鈥淚t is a little frustrating,鈥?Carr said. Worse was that the Chargers got the ball back at the Raiders鈥?39-yard line after a 29-yard punt return by Cal alum . And the Oakland defense, much as was the case under fired head coach , didn鈥檛 come close to stopping the opponent on what would be a game-winning touchdown drive. San Diego quarterback ran 7 yards for a first down, and then rookie ran up the middle for gains of 12, 10 and 6 to get the ball to the 1-yard line at the two-minute warning. Oliver, who finished with 101 yards on 26 carries, then jumped across the goal line to give the Chargers (5-1) their fifth straight win and 18th in the past 22 games in this series. 鈥淵ou always want to have the opportunity to stop an offense and preserve a win,鈥?defensive end said. 鈥淚t didn鈥檛 happen for us. Obviously, we鈥檙e not in this game for moral victories. We鈥檙e proud of the effort we had but we鈥檝e got to find a way to at least hold them to a field goal.鈥?

49ers at Rams When: 5:30 p.m. Monday Where: St. Louis TV/Radio:Channel: 5 ESPN/810, 107.7 3 notables Derek Carr: The quarterback threw for a career-high 282 yards while becoming the only rookie since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger to throw four touchdown passes in a game. He did make a mistake in the end, when his last pass was intercepted, but he says he would take a chance on a throw like that again. Offensive line: Carr not only was not sacked, but he wasn鈥檛 touched as the Chargers didn鈥檛 have any quarterback hits. And the five brutes up front also did a nice job of run-blocking, as the Raiders ran for a season-high 114 yards. Tony Sparano: His team played very hard for him in his first game as interim coach and almost beat the hottest team in the NFL. If he can figure out some way to fix the defense, his team will have a chance to break its 11-game losing streak.
