MARION The first tenants of the Marion Enterprise Center will begin construction of their new facilities next week. Legacy Manufacturing will break ground on its $10.4 million, 133,000-square-foot building on Oct. 21. The Marion company makes lubrication equipment, hoses, hose reels, pneumatic couplers and accessories. Construction is expected to be complete by April 2016.

Legacy Manufacturing is very proud to be one of the first companies to expand in the Marion Enterprise Center, said Mark Weems, president of Legacy, in a news release. Our new 133,000-square-foot facility will more than double our capacity and allow us to continue our growth.

The company said it has purchased enough land to allow for future expansion of up to a 320,000-square-foot facility.

Our long-term objective is to re-shore as many of our products as possible, which will bring good manufacturing jobs back to the area, Weems said.

The following day, Oct. 22, ElPlast America Inc. will break ground on the construction of its new North American headquarters. The $6 million, 30,000-square-foot facility will bring 30 jobs to Marion. The Polish company supplies large press-to-close zipper bags used by food, pet food, lawn care, pharmaceutical and other industries.

ElPlast is excited to start the construction of our North American headquarters representing the beginning of the next phase of our growth in the North American market, said Chad Rupert, CEO of ElPlast America, in a news release. ElPlast looks forward to becoming a member of the Marion business community as we continue to build our business for many years to come.

The Marion Economic Development Company helped the two companies secure city and state financial incentives for the projects. ElPlast received a $390,000 incentive through the City of Marion and $148,450 from the Iowa Economic Development Authority. Legacy Manufacturing received $880,000 from the City of Marion through tax increment financing and a $261,750 assistance package through IEDA.

The Marion Enterprise Center, 184 acres of shovel-ready land, is at the corner of Highways 151 and 13.
