PASS CHRISTIAN -- A shrimper fell overboard around 8 p.m. Sunday night after a wave hit his vessel and threw him into the water, said Melissa Scallan, spokesperson for the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources. Mitchell Sevel, 45, was on the phone aboard the "Kar-Lyn-Dawn" when a wave knocked him off the boat. The boat was headed to shore at the time Sevel fell overboard. The boat was back in harbor by 8 p.m., which is when the captain realized the Sevel was missing. Sevel, Scallan said, was able to swim to shore and went to Henderson Point condos about 1 a.m., where he activated the fire alarm to get help. Pass Christian fire crews responded and brought him back to the Pass Christian harbor, where Sevel was reunited with family members. Sevel, Scallan said, was fine and did not have to seek medical treatment.

DMR, the Pass Christian Fire Department and the Coast Guard responded to the incident.
