THE Chairman, Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) and Governor of Niger State, Dr Mu鈥檃zu Babangida Aliyu, has called for establishment of more private universities in the northern part of the country.

This was contained in a press statement made available to newsmen in Minna on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Israel A. Ebije.

Aliyu, in an excerpt from his remarks at the Base University鈥檚 first convocation ceremony on Sunday, in Abuja, called on private investors to augment government owned universities in the region.

The governor added that the number of out of school children in the country has reached alarming proportion, adding that over 10,000 children were out of school.

Governor Aliyu said no nation can achieve maximum development without quality labour force, adding that education sector must be properly managed for quality service and accessibility.

He maintained that academic deficit does not only affect development but expose the country to social vices and poverty.

He said while ensuring that more universities are created, standard of graduates must be given adequate consideration.

Governor Aliyu said as part of efforts to encourage spread of universities across the country, a policy of free land for any investor wishing and ready to establish private university was in place in Niger State.

He said Nigeria would be a safer and more prosperous nation with a secured developmental aspiration if the education sector is given proper attention.

He, therefore, advocated that universities be planned to accommodate qualified admission seekers.
