Korean Movies

Strategies : 10 Korean movies of the past a few years that I enjoyed. These range from the comic for the tragic, and involve both action movies and historical dramas. Three turn out extracted from events in Korea in the last Forty years or so.

My Sassy Girl - Based on a real life story that a man posted on the net, My Sassy Girl became very popular in East Asia back in 2001, if this was popular in Japan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan. This triggered a forgettable direct-to-disc American remake in 2008, starring Elisha Cuthbert (who's unforgettable). My Sassy Girl is about a college guy who meets a drunk girl Known only as the "Girl" - around the subway, and all sorts of odd adventures they enter into while falling in love. You may never believe where the plot goes in this one.

Joint Security Area (JSA) - The Joint Security Area may be the DMZ between North Korea and Columbia, which movie tells the story of a double-shooting within the JSA. This results in increasing tensions on sides with the borders, an investigation with a Swiss-Korean woman and nearly a couple of hours of great, if implausible, entertainment.

Oldboy - Oldboy is one of the more famous Korean movies with American audiences, famous enough it hit CNN through the Virginia school shooting a few years ago. Oldboy is all about a person abducted and imprisoned inside a accommodation for Many years, and just what comes about when he escapes. Get ready for the twist, along with seeing Oldboy drink too much with his hammer. Should they ever actually obtain the U.S. remake of Oldboy made, it is going to suck so bad. There's just too many essential parts they'd need to change for American audiences. Oldboy was great, though.

Sympathy For Lady Vengeance - Like Oldboy, Sympathy For Lady Vengeance was directed by Park Chan-wook, and that is considered a part of his "vengeance trilogy" (in addition to Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance). Each time a woman leaves prison, after serving a sentence for a crime she didn't commit, you need to mete out revenge from the real culprits.

Arahan - Arahan can be a 2004 action-comedy that was panned by critics, but found viewers. When the 6 Masters of Tao determine that an inept cop has the Chi to become an "Arahan" and rule the world, you will know all kinds of wackiness will ensue. You'll either love this or hate it.

Silmido - Silmido is really a South Korean island where, in 1968, a unique team of assassins were trained to assassinate former North Korean dictator, Kim Il-Sung, in retaliation for North Korea's try to assassinate the South Korean president. According to true events involving a 31-man team of either criminals or special forces soldiers, based on who you talk to, Silmido takes a look a Korea's sordid past. If this was through with its run, Silmido was the very first South Korean movie being viewed by Tens of millions of Koreans within the theater.

The President's Last Bang - Another movie portraying events from South Korea's sordid past, The President's Last Bang is about the 1979 assassination of the South Korean President by his friend and Intelligence Director. This is a controversial movie anyway, however the story is told as a black comedy, which led to lawsuits and court rulings. For all those considering Korean background and Korean film history, you must see this one.

Chunhyang - If you'd prefer period pieces, Chunhyang may be the story of a hidden love and marriage between a nobleman and the daughter of your courtesan in Eighteenth century Korea. Chunhyang reveals the cruel realities of pre-modern Korean society. If the noble husband disappears for a while, an official takes interest in the bride, that you simply know will result in trouble.

Guns and Talk - After a tearjerker, you might like to watch a comedy. Guns and Talk is a comedy about 4 guys who finalise to become a team of assassins. Each time a couple of detectives access it their case, things get a little crazy. While Guns and Talk includes a quantity of implausible situations, if you enter in the movie with the right attitude, you need to like it. Guns and Talk includes a slick visuals, though if you do not like occasional split-screens, you might take a pass.

Memories of Murder - Another Korean movie depending on real events is Memories of Murder, concerning the serial killer who terrorized South Korea from 1986 to 1991. Memories of Murder would be a hit with both critics and also the audience, so expect an artistic film that holds your attention.

Great South Korean Films

韓国ドラマDVD -The Korean film industry has started to create a big impact with East Asian movie audiences previously 10 years approximately, and Korea's movies are beginning to achieve a wider audience in The united states. If you'd prefer these 10 South Korean films, keep trying to find good Asian movies and expand your viewing experience.
