How can a marketing plan relate with an organization's communications plan? What are the differences? May be the marketing plan just one aspect of the communications plan? Should one consider combining them into a single document?

A communications plan is a SECTION of your marketing plan. A communications plan is a focused strategy you use to have the term out about your organization, service or product.

You might use many different communications techniques such as public relations, advertising and speaking engagements. It addresses how you package, value and sell your service or product, not only how you speak about it. It will take into account your competitors and helps you create a unique selling proposition to ensure your product or service is uniquely positioned in the minds of one's prospects and clients.

And it ensures you have ways to monitor all of your marketing activities to produce the best possible success for your business.

The part of your advertising plan is where your communications plan is available in. After you've developed a powerful, ideal marketing foundation (which you'll do included in creating a marketing plan) you can establish a message strategy and tactics - this is your communications plan.
