Cheese is loaded with protein and because protein takes longer to digest and break down, it curbs hunger and keeps you feeling satisfied after meals and snacks (not the case with simple carbohydrates). Even if you enjoy carbs at the same meal or snack, the protein from the cheese slows the absorption of carbohydrates into the bloodstream, which keeps blood-sugar levels steady (no spiking and crashing).

On March 10 he left the hospital, five days after being slashed in a knife attack by a deranged fanatical nationalist.Predictably, the North Korean government immediately praised the assault. Later, that government denied any tie to the attacker.Periodic bellicose threats from Pyongyang receive emphasis from news media worldwide. That is understandable, but it also can distract attention from the long-term positive evolution of South Korea. As recently as the early 1960s, South Korea was one of the poorest economies in the world. Still a peasant society, the entire Korean peninsula was terribly devastated by the Korean War of 1950-53. Today, the Republic of Korea ranks among the top economies in the world, holding leadership roles in the automobile, advanced electronics, shipbuilding and other industries.Rapid industrialization and economic modernization has been complemented by striking transition from dictatorship to democracy. President Park Geun-hye s father, Gen. Park Chung-hee, stifled incipient democracy and imposed extremely harsh military authoritarianism for nearly two decades. He was assassinated in 1979 by the head of the KCIA, the national intelligence agency. In Korean memory, he remains a respected symbol of strength and effectiveness for many, doubtless a factor in his daughter s notable political success. While this family history is important, the background of now-stable representative government in South Korea is a more important story. Gen. Park was succeeded as chief executive by two more generals, but growing pressure for true democratic representation proved insurmountable. The capstone of transition to democracy was the election of Kim Dae-jung as president in 1998. He completed his five-year term without interruption, and in 2000 received the Nobel Peace Prize. A principal symbol of opposition to Park dictatorship, he was imprisoned for several years. On another occasion, KCIA agents kidnapped him and planned to kill him. Only the intervention of senior U.S. CIA official Don Gregg saved his life.South Korea s remarkable domestic accomplishments have unfolded while the country becomes increasingly influential in global arenas. The President of the World Bank is Korean-American Jim Yong Kim, previously President of Dartmouth College.Ban Ki-moon, current Secretary-General of the United Nations, is a career South Korean diplomat. Despite challenges, the UN has expanded international cooperation since the end of the Cold War era.Market economies and reasonably representative governments now characterize a steadily increasing share of the world s developing nations. In consequence, South Korea is ideally positioned to lead populations from poverty toward prosperity. In June 1950, President Harry Truman made the crucial strategic decision to defend South Korea from invasion by the North. President Dwight Eisenhower in early 1953 achieved an armistice in the brutal war, and proceeded to initiate comprehensive cooperative institutional and infrastructure development in South Korea. During the Vietnam War, South Korea provided a vitally important ally of the U.S., directly committing approximately fifty thousand troops.Page 2 of 2 - Park Geun-hye personifies this extraordinary national political economic and political progress. In addressing North Korea, she has combined disciplined restraint with interest in pursuing positive cooperation.Americans should be justifiably proud of vital assistance we have provided to South Korea for more than 60 years. We should also be mindful of their support for our alliance, well reflected by tremendous spontaneous public sympathy for Ambassador Lippert. Arthur I. The episode followed Brown, the series host and editor of Sun Runner magazine the publication behind the series, as he led a tour around Randsburg, Ridgecrest and Little Petroglyph Canyon. The tour, which was also hosted by the magazine, went to each site to learn about the area s history and experience some of its unique flavor.Going through Randsburg, the tour and by extension viewers learned about mining in the town and heard music at the local restaurants; they also went to the Randsburg Cemetery, but Brown said the wind made it impossible to use the footage. In Ridgecrest, they went to Casey s for a barbecue and to explore the Maturango Museum. Finally, they went to China Lake with a Maturango Museum Petroglyph Tour and explored the canyon s rock art.The idea for the show came about thanks to RACVB. Brown and Doug Lueck, executive director of the RACVB, have been working for approximately a decade to promote the desert as a tourist destination. Brown recalled how different areas of California had been split into tourism districts and most of them, except the desert, had some form of promotional organization. Creating the Southwest Stories series was one step to put the desert into people s homes and showcase the variety of things that can be done in them. The best way to get people to appreciate the desert is to shove it in their face with something like a TV show, Brown said.Southwest Stories will also feature areas like Lake Havasu, Ariz., Historic Route 66 and other interesting places. They also hope to do shows about areas in Nevada and other western desert locations in the future. At the moment, Southwest Stories is not being broadcast in the Ridgecrest area and could only be seen at the special screening. It is currently only being aired in certain areas, on Mondays and Fridays. Brown and Lueck are currently working to bring the series to more areas, including Ridgecrest.Brown said the crew took three days to film the episode. This translated to approximately 200 hours for everything, including editing the program. How quickly everything had to come together was not a perfect situation though; there was plenty they had to cut out and even more they would have liked to include, but did not have the time for. The most difficult part of working with a station like PBS is you have 30 minutes to fit everything, Brown said of how much they had to crunch content together.Page 2 of 2 - He recalled their guides for Little Petroglyph Canyon were eager to help out and had tons they would have liked to show the crew. While they love what they got, there is so much more they could still do, in the Ridgecrest area alone. We could come back forever, Brown said. If I lived to 112, I would still have a list of things I wish I could have done <on>the show]. The chance may come about sooner than expected. At the end of the screening, Brown announced they would be coming back to the area for another episode exclusively about the Petroglyph Festival. He recalled this was a surprise for him as well, as Lueck had only just told him about it that day. The episode is tentatively expected to be an hour long and will show off the petroglyphs, as well as the festival, in even greater depth.Brown said they would like to try bringing in local artists and experts on the petroglyphs to bring an even more in-depth look at everything to do with them.
