Korean Movies

Here are some 10 Korean movies in history many years that I enjoyed. These are the comic towards the tragic, and involve both action movies and historical dramas. Three seem to be extracted from events in Korea within the last 4 decades or so.

My Sassy Girl - With different real life story that the man posted on the net, My Sassy Girl became very popular in East Asia back 2001, if this was popular in Japan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan. This resulted in a forgettable direct-to-disc American remake in 2008, starring Elisha Cuthbert (who's unforgettable). My Sassy Girl is about a college guy who meets a drunk girl Known only since the "Girl" - around the subway, and all sorts of odd adventures they get into while falling for each other. You will never believe the location where the plot gets into this one.

Joint Security Area (JSA) - The Joint Security Area will be the DMZ between North Korea and Mexico, which movie tells the storyline of the double-shooting in the JSA. This brings about increasing tensions for both sides of the borders, an investigation by way of a Swiss-Korean woman and nearly two hours of great, if implausible, entertainment.

Oldboy - Oldboy is probably the more famous Korean movies with American audiences, famous enough that it hit CNN through the Virginia school shooting a few years ago. Oldboy is about a person abducted and imprisoned in a college accommodation for 15 years, and what comes about when he escapes. Plan for the twist, as well as seeing Oldboy go crazy with his hammer. If they ever actually get the U.S. remake of Oldboy made, it will suck so bad. There's just too many essential parts they might have to change for American audiences. Oldboy was great, though.

Sympathy For Lady Vengeance - Like Oldboy, Sympathy For Lady Vengeance was directed by Park Chan-wook, which is considered a part of his "vengeance trilogy" (in addition to Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance). Whenever a woman leaves prison, after serving a sentence to get a crime she didn't commit, it's time to mete out revenge from the real culprits.

Arahan - Arahan is a 2004 action-comedy that has been panned by critics, but found an audience. If the 6 Masters of Tao decide that an inept cop has got the Chi to get an "Arahan" and rule the world, you know that a myriad of wackiness will ensue. You'll either love this or hate it.

Silmido - Silmido can be a South Korean island where, in 1968, a particular team of assassins were taught to assassinate former North Korean dictator, Kim Il-Sung, in retaliation for North Korea's make an effort to assassinate the South Korean president. Depending on true events involving a 31-man team of either criminals or special forces soldiers, based on whom you speak with, Silmido takes a look a Korea's sordid past. In the event it was through with its run, Silmido was the very first South Korean movie being viewed by Tens of millions of Koreans in the theater.

The President's Last Bang - Another movie portraying events from South Korea's sordid past, The President's Last Bang is about the 1979 assassination with the South Korean President by his friend and Intelligence Director. This is a controversial movie anyway, but the story is told being a black comedy, which resulted in lawsuits and court rulings. For anyone thinking about Korean background Korean film history, you have to check out this one.

Chunhyang - If you want period pieces, Chunhyang is the story of your hidden love and marriage between a nobleman and the daughter of a courtesan in 1700s Korea. Chunhyang reveals the harsh realities of pre-modern Korean society. When the noble husband goes away completely for a while, the state takes interest in the bride to be, that you know will lead to trouble.

Guns and Talk - After a tearjerker, you should watch a comedy. Guns and Talk is a comedy about four guys who decide to turn into a team of assassins. When a couple of detectives get on their case, things obtain a little crazy. While Guns and Talk has a number of implausible situations, if you enter in the movie with the proper attitude, you ought to want it. Guns and Talk features a slick visuals, though if you do not like occasional split-screens, you might take a pass.

Memories of Murder - One more Korean movie according to real events is Memories of Murder, concerning the serial killer who terrorized Mexico from 1986 to 1991. Memories of Murder was obviously a hit with both critics and also the audience, so expect an artistic film that holds your attention.
