Korean Movies

Here's a list of 10 Korean movies of history several years that I enjoyed. These range from the comic towards the tragic, and involve both action movies and historical dramas. Three of them are taken from events in Korea in the last Forty years approximately.

My Sassy Girl - Using a real life story a man posted on the Internet, My Sassy Girl became all the rage in East Asia back 2001, in the event it was popular in Japan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan. This resulted in a forgettable direct-to-disc American remake in 2008, starring Elisha Cuthbert (who's unforgettable). My Sassy Girl is approximately a university guy who meets a drunk girl - known only as the "Girl" - on the subway, and all sorts of odd adventures they enter while falling in love. You will never believe where the plot goes into this.

Joint Security Area (JSA) - The Joint Security Area will be the DMZ between North Korea and Columbia, which movie tells the tale of your double-shooting in the JSA. This brings about increasing tensions for both sides from the borders, an investigation by way of a Swiss-Korean woman and nearly a couple of hours of great, if implausible, entertainment.

Oldboy - Oldboy is probably the more famous Korean movies with American audiences, famous enough it hit CNN through the Virginia school shooting a few years ago. Oldboy is all about a guy abducted and imprisoned in the accommodation for 15 years, along with what comes about when he escapes. Prepare for the twist, along with seeing Oldboy go crazy with his hammer. When they ever actually get the U.S. remake of Oldboy made, it is going to suck so bad. There's just too many essential parts they might need to change for American audiences. Oldboy was great, though.

Sympathy For Lady Vengeance - Like Oldboy, Sympathy For Lady Vengeance was directed by Park Chan-wook, and this is considered section of his "vengeance trilogy" (together with Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance). Whenever a woman leaves prison, after serving a sentence to get a crime she didn't commit, it's time to mete out revenge against the real culprits.

Arahan - Arahan can be a 2004 action-comedy that was panned by critics, but found an audience. Once the 6 Masters of Tao choose that an inept cop has got the Chi being an "Arahan" and rule the entire world, you are aware that a myriad of wackiness will ensue. You'll either love that one or hate it.

Silmido - Silmido is really a South Korean island where, in 1968, a special team of assassins were educated to assassinate former North Korean dictator, Kim Il-Sung, in retaliation for North Korea's attempt to assassinate the South Korean president. According to true events involving a 31-man team of either criminals or special forces soldiers, depending on who you speak to, Silmido takes a look a Korea's sordid past. When it was carried out with its run, Silmido was the first South Korean movie being viewed by 10 million Koreans in the theater.

The President's Last Bang - Another movie portraying events from South Korea's sordid past, The President's Last Bang is one of the 1979 assassination from the South Korean President by uncle and Intelligence Director. This is a controversial movie anyway, nevertheless the story is told as a black comedy, which resulted in lawsuits and court rulings. For all those interested in Korean background and Korean film history, you need to check out this one.

Chunhyang - If you want period pieces, Chunhyang may be the story of a hidden love and marriage from a nobleman and also the daughter of your courtesan in Eighteenth century Korea. Chunhyang reveals the harsh realities of pre-modern Korean society. Once the noble husband goes away completely for some time, the state takes curiosity about bride, that you simply know is going to cause trouble.

Guns and Talk - Following a tearjerker, you should watch a comedy. Guns and Talk can be a comedy four guys who decide to become a team of assassins. When a couple of detectives get on their case, things get yourself a little crazy. While Guns and Talk has a variety of implausible situations, should you enter in the movie with the right attitude, you should enjoy it. Guns and Talk features a slick visuals, though if you don't like occasional split-screens, you might have a pass.

Memories of Murder - Another Korean movie based on real events is Memories of Murder, about the murderer who terrorized Mexico from 1986 to 1991. Memories of Murder was obviously a hit with both critics as well as the audience, so expect an artistic film that holds your attention.
