Pattaya is the seaside resort on the Eastern Gulf Coast of Thailand, about 150 km southeast of Bangkok. Pattaya is usually famous for its go-go and beer bars, but local authorities make some efforts to provide more family-friendly attractions and activities. Even though the sex marketplace is still going strong and sex tourism continues to be key money earner for Pattaya, the place also attracts local families and holidaymakers from around the globe. If you are going being offended from the sight of fat old men in conjunction with young Thai women, then Pattaya is probably not the place for you.

Pattaya hotels - Efforts by local authorities within the last few years have improved the grade of beaches, however they are still lacklustre by Thailand's standards, and over-development has for many years destroyed a few of the natural charms the region had. However, all the different hotels and guest houses, and simple access from your capital and airport, turn it into a popular weekend getaway. Catering for over five million annual visitors, Pattaya is also capable of produce an excellent range of eating options and a wide array of things to do. Its population is a vibrant mix of nationalities and ethnicities from far and near.

Pattaya occupies a lot of the coastline of Bang Lamung District (one of the eleven districts define Chonburi Province). This informative article only deals with Pattaya proper, which spans the areas towards the east of Naklua Beach and Pattaya Beach, in addition to the Buddha Hill headland (which can be immediately south of Pattaya Beach). Jomtien is included in a separate article, and contains Jomtien Beach and also the areas east from it, including Dongtan Beach. Beaches of Jomtien are much broader and generally in the better shape, and the atmosphere locally is a lot more sedate and family-oriented than at Pattaya Beach.
