The Greyhound is a medium to medium/large dog breed that's graceful and gentle. They weigh between 60-70 pounds and reach 26 inches to 30 inches in height. They're a type that enjoys family companionship and loves routine. They love to eat at the same time each day, sleep at the same time and walk/exercise at the same time.

Acknowledged by the AKC, the greyhound is accepted in just about any coat color or color combination. Their coat is smooth, short, firm and right. They are quite simple groom, only needing a dry shampoo when necessary and only requiring an occasional cleaning.

When they are outside in winter months to hold them warm they are painful and sensitive to cold weather and need to wear a sweater.

Relaxed inside and rather high energy outside, the Greyhound can make a great house dog so long as they get normal outside exercise and walks. They're docile and sweet in nature and usually display a bit of a fearful side. For their timid side, they do best with older or well behaved children. Early socialization is better for other dogs and small animals. Despite having socialization they might chase little, non-canine pets, especially cats. Constant education is very important, but Greyhounds are simple enough to teach. They're negative watch dogs due to their calm, docile nature.

Dating back over 2000 years, the Greyhound originated from the Center East. Most sources state that Egypt is their country of origin. Their speed, energy and agility built them excellent hunters and they certainly were formerly mainly utilized to look. Today they are used mainly in dog racing. When they can no longer race, they are often damaged. Luckily, Greyhound recovery businesses have been working hard to protect retired racing Greyhounds and they have had success making use of their ownership plans.

The Greyhound might be just what you are looking for, if you are looking for a calm, affectionate type that will enjoy some outside exercise but will equally enjoy comforting indoors with you. Estimated, relaxed family conditions that will provide them with the company that they require are perfect for this type. pets supplies
