On top, the roller balls have actually a somewhat raised piece of metal on both sides, so the balls do not move down to the bottom of the ring which I wasnt able to see in the photos on Amazon. Theres a clasp at the bottom that pinches open, in the manner of a safety pin - you open it, put your curtain on, and re-pinch it closed. It was so simple! I purchased my RollerRings on Amazon and they look much better and more pricey in hand than they looked in the picture.
