A college classmate of mine decided to start a clinic in Uganda. After finishing college with a nursing degree, she wished to put her degree to good use. Throughout her senior year she started saving money and getting materials to make her dreams come true after graduation. She transferred to Uganda and opened a very successful, non-profit clinic. It wasn't simple at first though. While she was preparing to move, she also had to find the right materials and equipment for her organization. While finding standard equipment was relatively easy, more complex machinery and software proved to be a challenge. Possibly the biggest challenge was finding a trusted electronic medical record software. She wanted to make certain she had all the medical records on each person who entered the clinic. She wanted copies of electronic medical records so she would always have information such as allergic reactions or previous surgical treatments on hand. This might seem over zealous but by having reliable records, she could offer the people within the town the very best care possible. Finding a trustworthy electronic medical record system proved to be difficult though. After lots of days spent on the Internet, she finally found one that was perfect. Not only did it offer a place to keep each and every electronic medical record, it also provided a CPT lookup. While this may not seem like something monumental, it was great for my friend because she could look up each ailment in the CPT codes lookup and record everything properly and rapidly. This would help her see more patients in a day as well as make book keeping a little easier. By having a CPT coding lookup as well as a practical electronic medical record system, she knew she was going to have an effective and valuable clinic! She was beside herself. Later on she ordered other various supplies that she could use in her clinic. Luckily, when she started her blog, she was given plenty of contributions. There were enough to buy more complex equipment so her clinic could identify other afflictions that could go unchecked in Uganda. It is impressive to see on her blog that a building company has actually already started building the site for her dream clinic. There is certainly a lot of work that will go into creating a successful clinic but it is well worth it. After that, she was able to focus on packing her own luggage and say good-bye to everyone before moving to Uganda. While she was extremely nervous initially, I reassured her that she would have a successful clinic and all her hard work is going to pay off in the end. The people of Uganda appreciate and ecstatic to be treated correctly with appropriate medical attention. At her going away celebration, all the guests gave donations. By continuing to blog as well as update her site, she was able to receive even more donations and gather more appeal for her organization. Ideally, she could continue working at the clinic for many years and it may stay as helpful and successful as it is today. clia laboratory
