Routt County may be the 15th most extensive with the 64 counties with the state of Colorado of the United States. As of the 2010 census, people was 23,509. The county seat is Steamboat Springs.

Routt County was made out of the western percentage of Grand County on January 29, 1877. It was named in honor of John Long Routt, the very last territorial and first state governor of Colorado. The western part of Routt County was split off and away to form Moffat County on February 27, 1911.

According for the 2000 census, the county includes a total part of 2,368.02 square miles (6,133.1 km2), of which 2,361.59 square miles (6,116.5 km2) (or 99.73 percent) is land and 6.43 square miles (16.7 km2) (or 0.27 percent) is water.
