A college classmate of mine chose to start a clinic in Uganda. After graduating college with a nursing degree, she wished to put her degree to good use. During her senior year she started saving money and buying materials to make her dreams come true after graduation. She transferred to Uganda and opened a very successful, non-profit clinic. It wasn't easy in the beginning though. While she was preparing to move, she also had to find the right supplies and equipment for her organization. While finding standard equipment was relatively simple, more complicated equipment and software proved to be a challenge. Possibly the biggest challenge was finding a trusted electronic medical record software. She wanted to make certain she had all the medical records on each person who entered the clinic. She wanted copies of electronic medical records so she would always have information such as allergies or previous surgical treatments on hand. This might seem over zealous but by having trustworthy records, she could offer the people within the town the best care possible. Finding a trustworthy electronic medical record system proved to be difficult though. After numerous days spent on the Internet, she finally found one that was perfect. Not only did it provide a place to keep each and every electronic medical record, it also offered a CPT lookup. While this may not seem like something monumental, it was excellent for my friend because she could look up each affliction in the CPT codes lookup and record everything correctly and rapidly. This would help her see more patients in a day as well as make book keeping a little easier. By having a CPT coding lookup as well as a convenient electronic medical record system, she knew she was going to have an efficient and valuable clinic! She was beside herself. Later on she purchased other various materials that she could use in her clinic. Luckily, when she began her blog, she was given plenty of donations. There were enough to buy more complex equipment so her clinic could identify other afflictions that could go unchecked in Uganda. It is impressive to see on her blog that a construction company has already started building the site for her dream clinic. There is undoubtedly a great deal of work that will go into developing a successful clinic but it is well worth it. After that, she was able to focus on packing her own luggage and say good-bye to everybody before moving to Uganda. While she was extremely nervous at first, I reassured her that she would have a successful clinic and all her effort is going to pay off in the end. The people of Uganda appreciate and thrilled to be treated properly with appropriate medical attention. At her going away celebration, all the guests gave donations. By continuing to blog as well as update her website, she was able to receive even more donations and garner even more appeal for her organization. Ideally, she could continue working at the clinic for many years and it may remain as helpful and successful as it is today. tumbshots
