Wow! What a distinction a basic balaclava made during my 3 day weekend ski trip in the Banff areas of Canada this January. I was fortunate in that the whole weekend had been sunny days with light blue skies for as far as the eye can see. The snow was an ideal light powder that had been untouched since the most recent snowfall but it was a bit cold, almost -4 F and windy. But I was ready for this weather. Its quite a fantastic sensation you get when you find something profound in a little thing like a face mask youve probably always taken for granted. This trip, I was happy to have had a good balaclava. You might have sat on a ski lift before with ice cold winds blowing against your face, and experienced that no matter how warm and comfortable your coat, ski trousers, gloves and socks might be, you still feel like you didnt wear enough. Thats because what youve really need is an excellent balaclava. In truth, its commonly known to all the folks working at the ski resort that the head is where lots of people lose the most heat due to the fact that their head is normally the most uncovered part of the body. So the rule of thumb right here is, if youre ever out on the hill on a cold day, or heck just outdoors on a cold day, get an excellent balaclava along with your coat and gloves. But thats not all. You may have already gotten a balaclava, but it makes you feel unpleasant, clammy, or even chillier than you were without one. I was glad that my balaclava was made out of merino wool because what a difference that made! After my first run down, I had perspired. Generally with polyester, fleece, or cotton clothing, the under layer becomes wet after you sweat. Now, even with a great wind breaking jacket youve worn on top, you would feel cold, clammy, a bit gross, and youre probably gonna smell. Thankfully for me, my under layer, including my balaclava, were made of wool. It felt smooth, lush, and soft on the skin as a polyester or fleece layer would feel, and it was an extremely breathable material. It broke the wind just fine and when I had sweated, I dont feel the moisture at all. It was the most amazing feeling since I know I had sweated more than I would usually when I play other sports like basketball or when I run but I didnt feel at all like I had sweated that amount. This was probably exactly what kept me feeling so warm outside and cool in the chalet. Anyway, needless to say, I had an excellent trip, I worn these under layers for the whole duration of my trip without wash however it remained dry, kept me warm and didnt smell the entire trip. I would advise anyone who appreciates staying warm, dry and not irritated during their trip to wear a good balaclava like the one I used. I got mine from on Amazon.com -- Im a huge fan of Amazon.com for their fast shipping and money back or replacement guarantee. Visit Learn more at amazon.com/Balaclava-Mid-Weight-Motorcycle-Headphone-Non-Itchy/dp/B00SKMDFXE/Merino Wool Balaclava/ to learn the inner workings of this belief. This one may be a bit pricier than the polyester type of balaclavas but at their rate, Amazon provides free shipping and I would much rather have a quality wool balaclava than a number of polyester or fleece ones. However to each their own of course -- if you are out searching for great gear for the hill, I encourage you to check them out and order yours to see for yourself. Ive included the link below. If you decide to try them out, let me know your ideas, I am sure you will feel more than impressed!.
