A "Dessert" is really a food program that usually comes after dinner. Most often Dessert meals are of sweet food but may also be of a strongly flavored food, such as for instance cheese, like cheese cake. The entire world dessert arises from the Old French word "desservir", meaning 'to clear the table.' Sometimes in the English language dessert is confused with the phrase desert( notice only 1 "s"), which is a baren piece of land usually with sand as dirt.

It wasn't until after the 19th-century where the increase of the middle income, and the mechanization of the sugar industry, brought the benefit of sugars into the general public and unreserved it exclusively for the aristocracy, or as rare holiday treat. It was because sugar became cheaper and more easily available to everyone. So was the development and acceptance of desserts, as sugar was widely spread.

In the present culture dessert dishes have grown to be a favorite item for discussion, as they are a successful method to win people at the end of any meal. This is partly because if a mediocre meal is served by you, with an exemplary dessert, people will remember you for the dessert and neglect the meal.

Many countries, have a seperate final distinction between the primary course, and the course. This is simply not true however in some countries such as for example Chinese, who will combine in sweet and savoury dishes throughout the entire meal. Dessert is, quite often viewed as a individual meal or snack, rather than a program, and could be enjoyed some time following the meal by many people. As a result of it's wide spread popularity there are even some restaurants that concentrate on sweets.

Some of the most popular desserts are:

- Biscuits or cookies

- Ice salves

- Meringues

- Fresh fruit

- Cakes

- Crumbles

- Custards

- Gelatin sweets

- Puddings

- Pastries

- Pies or tarts quality italian restaurants
