Pattaya is the seaside resort about the Eastern Gulf Coast of Thailand, about 150 km southeast of Bangkok. Pattaya is mainly renowned for its go-go and beer bars, but local authorities have made some efforts to offer more family-friendly attractions and activities. Although the sex industry is still going strong and sex tourism remains the key money earner for Pattaya, the resort also attracts local families and holidaymakers from around the world. If you are going to become offended through the sight of fat old men in conjunction with young Thai women, then Pattaya is probably not the area for you personally.

Pattaya hotels - Efforts by local authorities over the past several years have improved the quality of beaches, but they're still lacklustre by Thailand's standards, and over-development has for many years destroyed some of the natural charms the region once suffered from. However, the plethora of hotels and guest houses, and straightforward access in the capital and airport, transform it into a popular weekend getaway. Catering for more than five million annual visitors, Pattaya is also able to present an excellent array of eating options plus a wide array of things to do. Its inhabitants are a colourful combination of nationalities and ethnicities from near and far.

Pattaya occupies a lot of the coastline of Bang Lamung District (among the eleven districts that comprise Chonburi Province). This informative article only relates to Pattaya proper, which spans areas for the east of Naklua Beach and Pattaya Beach, as well as the Buddha Hill headland (which can be immediately south of Pattaya Beach). Jomtien is included in the separate article, and has Jomtien Beach and also the areas east from it, including Dongtan Beach. Beaches of Jomtien less difficult broader and usually in a better shape, and the atmosphere locally is much more sedate and family-oriented than at Pattaya Beach.
