Most American's do not understand, have never noticed or do not care they are eligible for a "free credit report" one per year.

The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) requires each of the three consumer reporting companies Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion, supply you a complimentary copy of your credit report, once every 12 months.(1)

Why is it important for you to get your free credit report?

credit report gov - You don't have any idea, if or what, in the event that you never check your personal credit file, inaccuracies are present. There may be entries that sway your interest rates on credit cards and unsecured loans, may have a major effect on your own ability to obtain credit, and could prevent you from obtaining employment. If inaccuracies exist, under national law, you possess the right to have them corrected.

Should you discover your report contains wrong information, it must be corrected by the agency.

If an item is incomplete, the agency must finish it. Examples include late payments, no longer late, or if you had a bankruptcy 12 years ago, and it is still reported, you may request the agency update your report. Bankruptcy normally remains on your report ten years.

If your file shows an account that belongs to a different person, one not authorized on your account, it must be deleted by the agency.

There is just one site authorized under the law to manage and provide the free annual credit report program... annualcreditreport.com. Several other sites, trying to benefit from the law, promise to offer, "free credit reports." The consumer has to be mindful; these companies are not part of the software.

Companies offering free reports requiring you sign up for their tracking service, also contain the three reporting services, and are charging fees up to $30.00 monthly.

You really do not have to register for it to get a free report, if you do not want credit monitoring. These companies provide a service for which they're making a fortune tempting consumers to their site under the premise of receiving free reports. They will give you a free report, but you need to supply all your private information and sign up for their service to get one.

Should you not desire credit monitoring, and you need to pay a monthly charge to acquire a free credit report, it isn't free.

To receive your free report, visit annualcreditreport.com. Do not contact some of the three reporting agencies. By law, they're required to provide free annual credit reports exclusively through annualcreditreport.com.

You do not get your credit score, it's about $8.00 and could be obtained from the reporting credit service. It is not a portion of your free credit report. Depending on your own report, you can determine if you want to buy your credit score.

Most important, you will understand where you stand in terms of your credit worthiness in planning your current and future credit health.
