There was a period when Terrigal and the Central Coast region of New South Wales was a tired country area of the state that merely came to life briefly over the summer holidays. Then the F3 Freeway from Sydney was finished in 1987. Since then, Terrigal and the remainder of the Central Coast has become a favorite escape for Sydneysiders all year 'round.

While Terrigal has never been a populated suburb, it has always been thought of as the Central Coast's most upscale community. The establishment of the big, upscale resort changed the face of the village, resulting in the establishment of many trendy boutiques, gourmet restaurants as well as other businesses. However, they never pushed the older establishments out of town and you can still love fish and chips from a pavement cafe or buy your surfing equipment from a surf shop which has been proven for twenty years or more.

Great Gatsby - The truth that Terrigal, while certainly an upscale community, retains many of its older, more modest establishments is one among its charms. It's really a place in which you are able to feel comfortable in a pair of a tee shirt, board shorts and flip-flop sandals, even when you're experiencing a gourmet brunch outside an alfresco cafe.

Another amazing thing about Terrigal is the fact that, unlike so many city beaches, you don't even have to get in your vehicle and drive in order to find a quiet stretch of shore to relax. Simply walk up the shore towards Wamberal and before you know it, you are in another world; the planet the locals love. There appears to be considered a charming dividing point between Terrigal and its mostly residential neighbour: cross that line and you can really feel the difference.

Its central location and several comforts makes Terrigal a best place to make your residence while you're vacationing in the Central Coast. From there, you can easily reach the other Central Coast communities, each of which has its own special feeling. For example, Avoca Beach, just south of Terrigal, is one of Australia's most well-known surfing towns. Like Terrigal, Avoca has become busier over time, but, also like Terrigal, it has a haven of peace within simple walking distance at North Avoca.

Touring in another direction, you reach the Entry. The Entrance, a much bigger community, has a clearly different feeling and is mostly a family group destination.

Although Terrigal has an upmarket reputation, staying at an upmarket resort like Crowne Plaza isn't a prerequisite. In precisely the same manner that one can choose from a fish and chip feed for the entire family or an intimate candlelit dinner for two, you get your pick of Terrigal accommodations.
