Korean Movies

Here's a list of 10 Korean movies of the past several years i enjoyed. These range from the comic towards the tragic, and involve both action movies and historical dramas. Three turn out taken from events in Korea in the last 4 decades approximately.

My Sassy Girl - Based on a real life story that a man posted on the net, My Sassy Girl became very popular in East Asia back 2001, in the event it was popular in Japan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan. This led to a forgettable direct-to-disc American remake in 2008, starring Elisha Cuthbert (who's unforgettable). My Sassy Girl is approximately a college guy who meets a drunk girl - known only because the "Girl" - on the subway, and all the odd adventures they enter while falling in love. You will never believe in which the plot gets into that one.

Joint Security Area (JSA) - The Joint Security Area may be the DMZ between North Korea and South Korea, and this movie tells the storyline of a double-shooting inside the JSA. This brings about increasing tensions for both sides with the borders, an analysis by way of a Swiss-Korean woman and nearly a couple of hours of great, if implausible, entertainment.

Oldboy - Oldboy is among the more famous Korean movies with American audiences, famous enough it hit CNN during the Virginia school shooting not too long ago. Oldboy is about a man abducted and imprisoned inside a accommodation for Fifteen years, along with what comes about when he escapes. Get ready for the twist, along with seeing Oldboy drink too much with his hammer. Should they ever actually get the U.S. remake of Oldboy made, it's going to suck so bad. There's just way too many essential parts they'd must change for American audiences. Oldboy was great, though.

Sympathy For Lady Vengeance - Like Oldboy, Sympathy For Lady Vengeance was directed by Park Chan-wook, and that is considered section of his "vengeance trilogy" (along with Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance). Each time a woman leaves prison, after serving a sentence to get a crime she didn't commit, you're ready to mete out revenge up against the real culprits.

Arahan - Arahan can be a 2004 action-comedy that has been panned by critics, but found an audience. If the 6 Masters of Tao choose that an inept cop has got the Chi to get an "Arahan" and rule the planet, you are aware that all sorts of wackiness is going to ensue. You'll either love this or hate it.

Silmido - Silmido is a South Korean island where, in 1968, a special team of assassins were trained to assassinate former North Korean dictator, Kim Il-Sung, in retaliation for North Korea's try to assassinate the South Korean president. Based on true events involving a 31-man team of either criminals or special forces soldiers, depending on whom you speak with, Silmido requires a look a Korea's sordid past. When it was carried out with its run, Silmido was the initial South Korean movie being viewed by 10 million Koreans inside the theater.

The President's Last Bang - Another movie portraying events from South Korea's sordid past, The President's Last Bang is among the 1979 assassination with the South Korean President by uncle and Intelligence Director. This is a controversial movie anyway, but the story is told like a black comedy, which resulted in lawsuits and court rulings. For all those thinking about Korean background and Korean film history, you must check this out one.

Chunhyang - If you want period pieces, Chunhyang will be the story of the hidden love and marriage from the nobleman as well as the daughter of your courtesan in 1700s Korea. Chunhyang reveals the tough realities of pre-modern Korean society. If the noble husband goes away completely for a while, the state takes curiosity about the bride to be, which you know will cause trouble.

Guns and Talk - Following a tearjerker, you might like to watch a comedy. Guns and Talk is a comedy about four guys who decide to become a team of assassins. Each time a number of detectives get on their case, things get yourself a little crazy. While Guns and Talk has a variety of implausible situations, should you type in the movie with the right attitude, you need to want it. Guns and Talk has a slick visuals, though unless you like occasional split-screens, you might take a pass.

Memories of Murder - Yet another Korean movie depending on real events is Memories of Murder, in regards to the serial killer who terrorized Mexico from 1986 to 1991. Memories of Murder was a hit with both critics as well as the audience, so expect an inventive film that holds your attention.
