Routt County may be the 15th most extensive in the 64 counties from the state of Colorado of the United States. As with the 2010 census, people was 23,509. The county seat is Steamboat Springs.

Routt County was developed out of the western portion of Grand County on January 29, 1877. It was named in honor of John Long Routt, the final territorial and first state governor of Colorado. The western percentage of Routt County was split off and away to form Moffat County on February 27, 1911.

According for the 2000 census, the county features a total area of 2,368.02 square miles (6,133.1 km2), that 2,361.59 square miles (6,116.5 km2) (or 99.73 percent) is land and 6.43 square miles (16.7 km2) (or 0.27 percent) is water.
