Is it about learning some blows, kicks and blocks? Can it be about memorizing endless kinds? Is it about self-defense? Could it be about health and fitness? How about making friends and interacting? And think about all those buzzwords including self-discipline, self-confidence...

This issue seems innocent and simple to answer. But the facts are that it is not an easy question to answer in any way, because it must be solved on a wide variety of levels. What's karate really about?

Could it be about learning some punches, kicks and blocks? Can it be about memorizing endless kinds? Is it about self-defense? Could it be about health and fitness? Think about making new friends and interacting? And how about all of those buzzwords including self-confidence, self-discipline, self-control, self-esteem and all of those other self prefixes that cater to our already aggrandized egos?

Some of us have already completed our research on this subject to find out what karate is about and we have found numerous but complimentary answers. Traditional fighting styles wisdom tells us that karate is about perfecting our identity, being genuine and honest, never giving up, building strong nature, trying our most useful at all times, staying with strict discipline and etiquette, following a route or even the Way, and achieving our potential in life.

I can promise that if I put this question to an area filled with students, all the above answers will soon be offered and probably many others. The place of the introduction to this article is that karate is approximately all of the above and none of the above. All of it depends upon who you are talking to. The thing is that the difference between many parents words and actions can be important.

For example, saying that karate is approximately focus and control and then demonstrating bad ways and poor strategy while being easily distracted tells me that some body isnt really being honest. Saying that karate is all about health and fitness and then driving right to McDonalds after school to get a Big Mac with extra fries may be equally debateable in terms of an honest exercise.

What exactly is karate really all about? Identification say its all about YOU and its all about what YOU model of it. You may make it a great and challenging hobby and family activity by participating with other family members. You can make it a really worthwhile physical exercise by teaching hard and improving your quality of life and fitness. You may also make it an incredibly boring and frustrating quest that becomes potentially damaging to both your character and your self-confidence by not trying to do your very best, and feeling like you're no good compared to everybody else in your school.

Or, as I did, you can make a lifelong goal to it to attempt to capitalize on the advantages that you were born with and gradually improve your weaknesses through the totally determined and honest practice of karate.

Perfection of character doesnt mean that there is a constant make a mistake. Trying to be honest and truthful doesn't imply that you never catch your-self being hypocritical occasionally. Nor does trying your very best signify youre never tired.

What is most important from this is your self-awareness. Through-the theme and practice of karate we should be in a position to regularly polish the stone that contains all of our abilities, so that we can clearly see our very own reflection in all its beauty and even all of its ugliness.

Gradually through practice, constant work and knowledge of ourselves that we produce through our practice, we can tip the balance of our lifes scale to self-improvement and good nutrition. This inevitably leads toward helping others and finding our personal invest this world. Karate, while not total in and of itself, holds many secrets that lead us towards this goal.
